Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedric Prince (read: god) Prince of destruction of Franchise/TheElderScrolls, Destruction, is always shown typically depicted as a massive BigRedDevil humanoid with four arms, each often holding a different weapon. Judging from his mythologies, he's apparently another Shiva-inspired example. He has attempted the takeover of Nirn/Mundus multiple times throughout history, serving as either the direct BigBad or the ManBehindTheMan in three games in the series.
** Morwha, the Yokudan/Redguard aspect of Mara, the Aedric Divine Goddess of Love, is depicted with four arms so that she can "Polyamory grab more husbands". Otherwise downplayed because she isn't particularly malevolent.

So, you've got a character that you want to show is really dangerous. You could give him/her the normal two arms or legs, but that's just not enough. Maybe you could replace one of those arms with a really big gun, or a BFS sword, or have it transform into something else.

* Some Chimera Ants in Manga/HunterXHunter" have multiple arms, and they're all far stronger than normal humans.
** Isaac Netero's Nen ability, the "100 Type Guanyin Bodhisattva", is a giant golden manifestation of a buddhist goddess with many, many arms. It's one of the most powerful Nen abilities in the series.
