Sometimes, a villain's biggest problem is that his forces are diminished to the point where they can't stand up to the hero. Sometimes this is simply because TheHero is such a badass that [[CurbStompBattle their tactics and training don't help the mooks one iota]]. Other times, the minions [[SurroundedByIdiots are idiots]] who [[ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy can't hit the broad side of a barn]] but end up [[AlwaysAccurateAttack being good targets themselves]].

* In ''VideoGame/ConquerorsBlade'', this happens in every single battle. The game's premise is that each player controls a hero character on a medieval battlefield while also leading a unit of NPC soldiers (mooks). Each player can bring a certain number of units into each battle, and while player characters can respawn, units that die stay dead through the rest of the battle. Most matches are won by the team which depletes the enemy's reserves until they have nothing (or at least nothing useful) left.

** At the beginning of ''Literature/TheThrawnTrilogy'' Captain Pellaeon (Thrawn's flag captain and second-in-command) notes that despite Darth Vader's legendery and often lethal [[YouHaveFailedMe low failure tolerance]], many of the Empire's best and brightest officers and crew served on his flagship ''Executor''. When an A-wing [[SuicideAttack crashing into the bridge]] caused the ''Executor'' to go out of control and collide with the Death Star, the destruction of Vader's flagship caused the deaths of many of the Imperial Navy's best mid-level officers and crewers.

* ''Series/AgentsOfSHIELD'': HYDRA's motto was "Cut off one head, two more will take its place." They overestimated themselves. Towards the end of Season 3, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United States military launched a coordinated assault against HYDRA. Season 5 showed what was left. A HYDRA training academy which was once filled with trainees and staff, was now down to just Hale, Ruby, and a pair of mooks.

* In ''WesternAnimation/PussInBootsTheLastWish'', Jack Horner starts his pursuit for the wishing star with a group of mooks called the Bakers' Dozen. However, his BadBoss tendencies (such as accidentally shooting them with his crossbow, or using them as a bridge for his carriage) result in him gradually running out of manpower, to the point that by the final battle, he has only one mook left.

* ''Fanfic/StarWarsVsWarhammer40K'': The Second Battle for Axum is noted to go ''incredibly'' poorly for the Imperial Guard regiments fighting against the Republic, to the point that by Episode 36, they have taken serious losses. [[spoiler:Specifically '''95% or higher''' casualty rates for many regiments. It's revealed that if the Imperial Council hadn't organized a desperate last-minute evacuation effort, the Imperial presence on Axum would have been completely wiped out.]]
