PlatonicLifePartners is a sub-trope in which the characters are not only close, but form each others' primary relationship. If you can imagine the same-sex versions of the characters being HeterosexualLifePartners, then they belong under PlatonicLifePartners. Of course, almost all instances of PlatonicLifePartners fall under this trope, but to avoid redundancy they should ''not'' be listed on this page.

Simply being friends doesn't make a pair an example, nor does just being TrueCompanions. Because most childhood relationships are inherently platonic, friendships between children do not qualify unless they continue into adulthood and remain platonic. Contrast JustFriends for when this does actually blossom into romance. Not to be confused with UnluckyChildhoodFriend in which one side does have feelings for the other. Compare with StupidSexyFriend. The trope may be averted if the relationship becomes a ChildhoodFriendRomance or (for actual siblings) subverted by BrotherSisterIncest.

Although many fans think they'd just be better off dating, neither characters character actually show shows any interest in the other that way way, aside from a teasing banter here and there. WordOfGod states that one writer suggested [[WhatCouldHaveBeen making them a couple]], but the creator decided to have them stay purely as friends.

'''Peanut:''' Yeah, duh, of course; you're like my sister. (''pause'') Which given a little thought could be a very hot concept.

* The alternative name for this trope, the Westermarck Effect, is after Finnish sociologist Edward Westermarck, who did very thorough research on the incest taboo and found that sibling incest, father-daughter incest and mother-son incest are extremely rare in monogamous cultures around the world, and that this effect extends also to stepchildren adopted in very early age. The same effect has also been discovered on many animals, especially birds.\\\
And Westermarck isn't the only one to draw this conclusion; it's been shown the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westermarck_effect Westermarck effect]] is quite common in real life amongst childhood friends. Studies show that children who know each other during their early childhood will rarely develop any romantic interest later in life. It's hypothesized that this is part of an instinctual mechanism designed to minimize the possibility of [[IncestIsRelative inbreeding]]. But do Middle/High schoolers with those two friends who have known each other since preschool care? Noooooo...

** In the PSP re-release, unless [[RomanceSidequest you have him be your lover]], he can form this kind of bond with the female protagonist, courtesy of his new Social Link. It's even more sibling-like insofar as late in the link, he'll admit that he sees his DeadLittleSister Miki in the FeMC.

It's even more sibling-like insofar as late in the link, he'll admit that he sees his DeadLittleSister Miki in the FeMC. The female protagonist and Junpei also fall into this, especially seeing as he ''can't'' be romanced: their relationship in their Social Link is entirely platonic with Junpei taking on a protective brother role towards her.
