In the introduction to the manga ''Manga/DragonBall'', creator Akira Toriyama said that he named Goku's energy attack after Kamehameha I (King of Hawaii) after visiting Hawaii on vacation and seeing a statue of the king, though in-universe, Kamehameha translates in Japanese as "Turtle School Blast" or "Turtle Devastation Wave".

* The TropeCodifier, and first TropeNamer here, is the Kamehameha (literally "Turtle Devastation Wave") used by Goku and others from ''Franchise/DragonBall''. Originally a technique developed by Master Roshi, who famously used it to ''blow up the moon''. Although it starts as a tremendous show of power many characters learn how to accomplish it immediately after seeing it. Vegeta has a similar attack in the form of his Galick Gun. The Masenko is another variation used by Piccolo and Gohan. Interestingly the Kamehameha can be steered after firing it which gives it an advantage over most other KiAttack in the series aside from the tremendous power release.

** Aside from the big blue beam, there is other iconic beams and blasts that fall under this trope.
*** ''The Dodon Ray'' created to rival the Kamehameha by [[TheRival Crane Hermit]] focusing a more precise, buring beam. After {{Cyborg}} Tao's super Dodon Ray fails to even singe Tien, this attack is never seen again.
*** Piccolo's ''Explosive Demon Wave'' turned East City into a wasteland and nearly kills Imperfect Cell after Piccolo fuse with Kami.
*** ''The Special Beam Cannon'' Piccolo's second beam attack could put a hole though two Saiyans and considered Piccolo's signature Energy blast.
*** Vegeta's ''Big Bang Attack'' is second only to the Kamehameha in popularity. Operating and looking similar to a Hadoken, the BBA blows almost anyting in Vegeta's version vicinity the fuck away. ''The Big Bang Attack'' is strong enough to make Full Power Perfect Cell, lost his ground when Vegeta fires one [[ConvenientlyTimedAttackFromBehind at his back]] during his BeamOWar with Gohan.
*** ''The Final Flash'' makes the Big Bang look tame. Vegeta 3rd signature attack, is a giant golden beam that would've turned [[PlanetDestroyer Earth into space dust]] if the Prince of Saiyans hadn't changed it's trajectory at the last minute.

** The Kamehahameha Wave was also [[ShoutOut referenced]] by Tennyo during Team Kimba's NoHoldsBarredBeatdown of the Grunts in their simulator GrudgeMatch; she knocked out [[ColdSniper Deadeye]] with it, by flying into the building he was sniping from, ostentatiously gathering up massive plasma ball, and using it to core out the entire skyscraper.

* The TropeCodifier, and first TropeNamer here, is the Kamehameha (literally "Turtle Devastation Wave") used by Goku and others from ''Franchise/DragonBall''. Not that there weren't plenty of cousins around, such as the Gallick (or Garlic) Gun and Final Flash (which takes [practically] forever and a day to charge up and is [literally] about 500 miles wide) used by Vegeta, the Masenko used by Piccolo and Gohan, the Dodonpa used by Tenshinhan and all other Crane School fighters, and numerous unnamed energy blast attacks used by other characters, as well as several variations of the original - Kamehameha from the feet, Super Kamehameha, Warp Kamehameha and Big Bang Kamehameha.\\
One significant trait of the classic Kamehameha that gives it an advantage over other KiAttacks, aside from its sheer power relative to casting time, is that it can be steered after firing, whereas most energy balls or beams are fire-and-forget. This is seldom seen in parodies.

** As such an iconic move it is subject
to casting time, is that an incredible amount of parody. More than a dozen variants exist just within the Dragonball franchise like Goten's "Kame''k''ameha" - basically the same attack, except [[HilarityEnsues Goten has no control over where it can be steered after firing, whereas most energy balls or beams are fire-and-forget. This is seldom seen in parodies.goes]] and the Chocolate Kamehameha.

** Also in ''Manga/{{Yotsuba}}'', Jumbo is told that Miura's parents are too busy to take her anywhere during the summer, so he takes her fishing. At the end of the trip, he finds out she's going to Hawaii in the fall, and goes comically berserk, yelling ''"Kamehameha!"'' at her -- which is an actually relevant name, given her destination.
** Parodied in lots and lots of shows, though the Kamehameha is not the ultimate ki attack in the Dragon Ball, just the most used and recognizable.
** Parodied ''within the series'' with Goten's "Kame''k''ameha" - basically the same attack, except [[HilarityEnsues Goten has no control over where it goes.]]
