* Vlad Taltos from the ''Literature/{{Dragaera}}'' novels tends to practice this in a pinch, although he ''is'' trained in fencing and capable of deadly strikes when an opening offers itself. Rather, as an Easterner fighting seven-foot-tall Dragaerans, he needs tricks and unpredictability to avoid being overwhelmed by sheer brute force.

* ''RanmaOneHalf'': Ranma Saotome has this trope reconstructed, featuring an as-serious-as-it-can-get Anything Goes Martial Arts dojo. While the fighting style has some of its own unique characteristics, Ranma's most distinctive ability is being able to adapt with remarkable skill, something that comes in handy when forced to engage in all sorts of rule-restricted MartialArtsAndCrafts.

If TheStrategist finds himself in a situation where he has to fight directly instead of just advicing, he/she may use these tactics. Probably utilized by the ActionSurvivor as well.

* ''FanFic/PacificWorldWarIIUsNavyShipgirls'': This is O'Bannon's fighting style (being based on classic comedy brawlers, no less), with a healthy dose of ImprobableWeaponUser added in for extra hilarity.

ImprovFu tends to involve quick tricks, trips, traps, a lot of dodging, and heavy implementation of objects or the environment available at any given moment. Sometimes the character essentially blunders combat. Most of the time ImprovFu is played for comedy. May lead to ImprobableUseOfAWeapon if they find one they don't know how to use.

* JackieChan's characters are all about this. This is because the Chan man loves action but dislikes violence so he uses his own style involving a lot of dodging and using the environment to combat his opponents.

* In Literature/{{Worm}} where the setting is filled with people who can shoot lasers and punch through walls, Skitter can control bugs. She ends up doing this a lot, using tactics such as incapacitating an indestructible opponent with the excreted narcotic of a fallen comrade, tricking a massive foe to charge into spider silk frozen in time, and choking a woman to death by filling her lungs with bugs.

A character's fighting style isn't so much as fighting as it is making up new and ridiculous ways to combat their opponent. [[JackieChan Perhaps they don't like violence]], or perhaps they never learned Kung Fu, or perhaps they just can't catch up. Either way, they find a way to be useful.
