* The made-for-tv film ''Skylark'' (second in the Hallmark Hall of Fame trilogy based on the ''Sarah, Plain and Tall'' books) takes place during a draught in Kansas during the early 1900's. Farmer Jacob Whitting sends his wife, Sarah, and two children to live with her spinster aunts in Maine while he stays behind to try to save their land. Not long after the trio arrive in Maine, there's a rain shower. Sarah and the kids rush outside to enjoy it. They run around playing and squealing while she turns in a slow circle, arms spread wide, face to the sky, eyes closed and smiling. Some time later when rain finally returns to the prairie, Jacob is so relieved he just sits down in the middle of their front yard and lets himself get drenched.

* ''Literature/NowInNovember'': Subverted. One particularly cruel HopeSpot, in this book about a family of farmers suffering through a terrible drought, has a storm come to the area. Dark clouds roll over, and there's a clap of thunder. Big drops of rain fall, and the family, deliriously happy that the terrible drought is over at last, starts pulling out washtubs to catch the rain. Then the clouds part, the rain stops as quickly as it started, and the drought continues.

* ''Literature/TheNo1LadiesDetectiveAgency'': Several novels are set when the rainy season comes, which is (almost) always treated as HappyRain as it means the cattle-based economy will survive another year. The one exception is when Mma Makutsi realizes she left an expensive new bed outside as it wouldn't fit through the door, and rushes off to see it has indeed been ruined.
