** Red powers are energy-based. Fire, electricity, and radiation are all Red powers. Transforming into an EnergyBeing is also a Red power.
** Yellow powers are concepts. Yellows have absurd powers like "being lucky" or "land ownership." Generally, a Yellow has complete supremacy over their specific concept.
** Orange powers grant control over inorganic matter. Glass control, transforming into a mobile statue, and transforming into a cloud of gas are all Orange powers.
** Green powers grant control over organic matter. Controlling plants is the most famous version, but controlling flesh and blood are also common, as is transforming into a monster.
** Blue powers are information-based. Telepathy, simulations, and instant [[MadScientist Genius intellect]] are all common Blue powers.
** Violet powers relate to space and time. Teleportation is a Violet power, as is Ryan's save point.
** White powers are meta powers, affecting other powers. The most prominent White can suppress other powers, and White technology is required to make the other colors work together.
** [[spoiler:Black is the color of pure paradox, with no rules. The Alchemist declared it too dangerous and did not make any Black elixirs]].

** [[EldritchLocation Manifest zones]] are locations where the planes bleed into Eberron. Manifest zones enhance corresponding magic when cast inside them. Sarlona, the continent where humanity originated, was ''full'' of manifest zones, so their magic revolved around them. When humanity left Sarlona for Khorvaire, they discovered that much of their magic was so reliant on the manifest zones that [[CripplingOverspecialization it simply wouldn't function without them]]. Manifest zones exist on Khorvaire, but they're too rare to base your civilization on them. Humans invented weaker, but more reliable magic to compensate.
** All undead are powered by negative energy from the plane of Mabar, the Eternal Night. The reason so many undead need to feed on living creatures is because they require this to maintain their connection to Mabar. Even if undead do not have to actively hunt the living, it is generally believed that their connection to Mabar damages the living world just by existing. If given no other instructions Mabaran undead will always default to hunting the living, even if they can't actually get anything out of it.
** The deathless are very similar to the undead, but they are powered by positive energy from Irian, the Eternal Day. Irian undead do not require stealing life energy to survive, but their connection to Irian is maintained by the [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly faith and devotion of their descendants]]. In fact, the Irian method came first, as a way to preserve heroes after death, but the house of Vol thought relying on good wishes was unreliable. They designed Mabaran undead to be able to ''take'' what they needed.
** Sharn, one of the most famous cities in the world, keeps its famous towers aloft by use of a manifest zone to Syrania, the Azure Sky. The proximity to Syrania makes possible the large-scale spells necessary to keep its towers standing.

For example, SCP-3304 shows the drastic consequences when an extradimensional being tries to sell its own world's energy to ours. The wiki uses the tag "ectoentropic" for anomalies that violate conservation of mass and energy.

* All powers in ''Literature/{{Worm}}'' are extradimensional in nature, drawing matter and energy from alternate Earths to fuel them. While it is possible to "drain the well" and thus no longer have a power, this is exceedingly rare (given the setting, you are much more likely to die first).

* In the ''WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty'' episode "The Ricks Must Be Crazy", it is revealed that Rick's spaceship is powered by a miniature universe inside the battery: the people of the "microverse" generate electricity using foot-pedals, with a portion of the power being redirected towards the battery. Unfortunately, this stops working when a scientist of the microverse discovers how to create his own "miniverse" and generate free power without having to work the pedals. The inhabitants of the miniverse then create a teenyverse for the same purposes. In the end, Rick manages to restore his battery's power by giving the microverse's inhabitants an ultimatum: either they go back to using the pedals, or he gets rid of his non-functional battery (and destroys their universe in the process).
* The magic used by the Butterfly family in ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'' comes from a place called the realm of magic. It enters the multiverse in two forms. The first is a golden liquid which flows in to each universe at one specific location like water from a well. This can be collected and used for rituals but prolonged exposure causes amnesia and insanity. The second is a [[BackgroundMagicField background magic field]] which is everywhere, but undetectable and extremely difficult to tap in to without a special wand that was made by the magic's living embodiment. As a result, anyone who has the wand becomes a target for those hoping to gain power for themselves.
