* ''VideoGame/AlanWakeII'': Once a weapon is discovered by Saga, a magazine for it is added to her [[MemoryPalace Mind Place]]. With Manuscript fragments she can find in the hidden Alex Casey lunchboxes, she can choose from three upgrades each for the weapons, which range from magazines holding more bullets to attacks growing stronger with consecutive hits.

* ''VideoGame/{{Afterimage}}'': Main weapons and Subweapons that are currently equipped can be upgraded at any time using Balms and the necessary amounts of Dew, for up to three levels each (denoted by a color-coded flame icon). Every upgrade level increases all of the weapon's listed stats, though the more "unique" weapons may also unlock additional effects as indicated below their names.

* ''Videogame/EldenRing'' features an upgrade system straight out of its ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' predecessors that uses one of two materials: Smithing stones, and ''somber'' smithing stones. The former are used to upgrade most of the game's more mundane weapons, while the somber stones upgrade more rare, powerful weapons (often called "somber weapons" by the community.) Weapons using normal smithing stones can be upgraded all the way to +25, while somber weapons can only be upgraded to +10, though each individual upgrade for a somber weapon is a bigger leap in power. Upgrading a weapon not only improves its base stats, but also its scaling, meaning your own stat increases have a proportionally bigger impact on the weapon's performance. One of the many types of SelfImposedChallenge runs involves completing the game without ever upgrading your equipment.
