* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' features this; May mistakes a stick of dynamite for a candle, but Yoki, in a rare moment of usefulness, stops her. He also points out the dynamite is old and wet anyways and won't explode unless they do something stupid.

He also points out the dynamite is old and wet anyways and won't explode unless they do something stupid. You can probably guess what happens soon afterwards.

* ''Film/TheGoonies'': Notable in that the dynamite is a dusty stick that sits unknowingly in a bundle of candles, so the kids spend the movie lighting candles as they traverse the maze. Only at the end do they light the dynamite and realize how lucky they were to have lit it in a place where it only caused a ''small'' cave-in.

* ''Film/TheGoonies'': Notable in that A rare example of combining this with ChekhovsGun; when the dynamite is Goonies find Chester Copperpot's body, they pick through his satchel and find a dusty stick that sits unknowingly in a bundle bunch of candles, so which the kids spend the movie lighting candles camera lingers on long enough to notice one "candle" has some kind of writing on it. Most of them actually ''are'' candles, which are lit as they traverse the maze. Only at In the end do penultimate scene, they're down to the last "candle", which of course is ''not'' a candle. Good thing they light the dynamite and realize how lucky they were to have lit it in a place where it only caused a ''small'' cave-in.cave-in.
-->'''Data''': This funny candle, it sparkling.\\
'''Brand''': [[OhCrap That's not a candle, it's-]]\\

* In ''VideoGame/DuckAmuck'', one of the minigames has the player blow out Daffy's candle when he's trying to get the lights back on. When it's a stick of dynamite, you win by leaving it alone.

* In the ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' episode "Hunteri Heroici", the wierdness of the week is being caused by an elderly RealityWarper with a love of cartoons. He's locked in his own mind, unable to think of anything but his favorite cartoons. As a result, his power causes cartoon-like effects to occur in his immediate vicinity. In one instance, the guy is watching a cartoon involving a Dynamite Candle gag while one of the patients in the same nursing home celebrates his birthday, complete with a candle-filled cake. The end result is not pleasant.

* In ''TheGoonShow'' (which is, after all, a kind of audio cartoon), sticks of dynamite will frequently get mistaken for candles or cigars. Usually it's Bluebottle who gets hurt by them. Just occasionally they'll invert the gag by having somebody pretend the dynamite is a candle or cigar. Guess who comes off worst in those situations as well.
