* In interpretations where Ocelotte isn't real, Consumed King Oceiros in ''VideoGame/DarkSoulsIII'' is able to keep it together despite mutating into a vicious, insane half-draconic abomination by fixating on the delusion that he is protecting a son. During his boss fight, after a certain amount of damage, he appears to realise that Ocelotte isn't there, and [[TurnsRed immediately flies into a killing rage]], losing the ability to speak coherently as he had done previously and simply lashing out savagely at the player character.

* ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIIIMorrowind'': Azura claims that mortal minds can't handle the rigors of godhood, so all [[DeityOfHumanOrigin gods of mortal origin]] will inevitably go insane. The Tribunal, a trio of gods who were once elves, all bear this out to some extent either in ''Morrowind'' or their chronologically earlier appearance in ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsOnline'' (Almalexia is [[IRejectYourReality deeply in denial]] about betraying Nerevar to achieve godhood, Sotha Sil is a depressed fatalist, and Vivec is promiscuous and a ConsummateLiar) but have managed to keep themselves together enough to be genuinely benevolent rulers and protectors of the Dunmer people.[[spoiler: Only Almalexia ends up going full-on AxCrazy, and that's because she couldn't handle ''losing'' her divinity.]]

* ''Manga/DeathNote'': [[GoMadFromTheRevelation Light can't cope with the knowledge that he has killed two people.]] In order to justify his first (accidental) murders of criminals he has to convince himself that they needed to be killed. [[JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope But then why stop there?]] So in order to make things right by [[Characters/DeathNoteLightYagami Light Yagami]] own moral code he has to kill more because it's the responsible thing to do, that he'll use this power for "good" -- no matter the price. [[InsaneTrollLogic He convinces himself that the real crime would be NOT to use the Death Note to change the world.]] The God complex swiftly follows, no doubt accelerated by the need to look interesting to Ryuk and L's very public challenging of him. All of this happens with alarming speed, and it explains why Light during the MemoryGambit has such a different personality and is horrified by the possibility that he could be Kira. Without the memory of having killed and what effect it had on his mind (as well as witnessing the impact such a person could have on society), he's a completely different person.
