** The Beast was a blatant copy of [[ComicBook/TheFantasticFour the Thing]] for the first two issues. Issue 3 would cement him as the GeniusBruiser that most people remember him as nowadays.
** Early on, Wolverine was just a straight-up asshole, who none of the other X-Men could even stand, especially since he would try to ''kill'' them at the drop of a hat. It's in ''X-Men'' #100 when he first displays an (at the time, one-sided) attraction to Jean Grey. A few more issues down the line, he starts mellowing from "total asshole" to "mild asshole", getting defensive when someone insults Nightcrawler, who he'd just been trying to stab moments before.
** ComicBook/{{Magneto}} was little more than a less likeable Doctor Doom when he debuted; a TinTyrant from somewhere in Europe who wanted to TakeOverTheWorld with his mutant superpowers and proudly ran a group called [[CardCarryingVillain the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants]]. In ''Uncanny X-Men'' #150 (published 1981), his tragic "Holocaust survivor" backstory and Jewish identity were majorly hinted at, his VisionaryVillain nature came to the forefront, and he became a rather clear WellIntentionedExtremist, with his prior appearances being credited to [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity his powers messing with his brain]]. His next appearance revealed him to be the father of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, which would also go on to be a defining part of his general angst. By ''ComicBook/SecretWars1984'', these parts of him had taken hold so strongly that the Beyonder regarded him as a member of the hero side, and by #200, he had joined the X-Men, cementing his status as a WildCard going between AntiHero and AntiVillain.
** In his earliest appearances, Gambit's just a mysterious Cajun thief. It wasn't until after Chris Claremont left X-Men that he started displaying his attraction to Rogue, and vice-versa, resulting in the long dance of WillTheyOrWontThey

** In the first four seasons, [[Characters/SouthParkEricCartman Eric Cartman]] was more of a whiny and naïve SpoiledBrat who hated almost everybody. The Season 5 episode "[[Recap/SouthParkS5E4ScottTenormanMustDie Scott Tenorman Must Die]]" marked a major turning point for the character, turning him into the cunning, manipulative psychopath he is today.

Added DiffLines:

* ''Series/GetSmart'': Larabee was initially just a regular agent and the Chief's main assistant. Until "A Man Called Smart" had Max yell to Larabee (in disguise as a chauffeur and ''standing next to a car'') "Larabee! Quick, FollowThatCar!" and Larabee promptly ''ran'' after the car. From that point on, Larabee became the one person at CONTROL [[TheDitz dumber than Max]].

* [[TheRival Miles Edgeworth]] in ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorney'' initially seems like an AmoralAttorney in the first trial he prosecutes. At the end of "Turnabout Samurai", the next trial, Edgeworth actually goes against the real culprit once it becomes clear they're lying on the stand, by way of yelling OBJECTION before saying: "I was hoping to come up with a question while I was objecting, Your Honor..." This establishes both [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold that he IS dedicated to justice when it comes down to it]], and his NotSoAboveItAll and TheComicallySerious traits, all of which are key to his personality from then on.
* Lampshaded in ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc''. Yasuhiro Hagakure was a fairly nondescript student earlier on, but around about Episode 3, after [[CharactersDroppingLikeFlies more of the cast has died]], he settles firmly into the role of {{Cloudcuckoolander}} comic relief, which sticks for the rest of the franchise. This is commented on, to which he replies: "Well, back then my personality hadn't quite solidified yet...!"

** In earlier titles, Coco mostly just plays the role of [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]] and is [[WomenAreWiser fairly passive and down to earth]]. ''VideoGame/CrashTagTeamRacing'', however, established a more hot-headed GenkiGirl side to her, with it and most games after letting her [[{{Slapstick}} take part in the cartoon antics]] more often and demonstrate a similar side towards her brother, with even [[VideoGame/CrashBandicootNSaneTrilogy the later remakes of earlier titles]] retconning her personality as such.
