* This is one of the reasons the axolotl has become critically endangered (along with pollution and introduction of invasive species); some of the modern pagan movements active in central Mexico subscribe to the "eat it to gain its power" belief with various animals and find the axolotl especially attractive because of its exceptional regenerative abilities which enable it to regrow lost limbs and even parts of its nervous system, which has led to them being hunted and consumed for this reason.

* ''TabletopGame/TheDarkEye'': The [[Main/OurOgresAreHungrier Ogre religion]] states (in surprising unison with that of the humans), that in the early times, the Giant Ogeron was slain and shattered into thousands of pieces, each of which became an ogre. Their declared long term goal is to eat all of each other (along with all other tasty beings in the world) to reform Ogeron. So that he can eat the gods.

* ''Literature/EmpireOfTheVampire'': Blood Esana vampires dedicate themselves to consuming others of their kind in order to "save their souls from damnation." It helps that the process of draining another vampire allows the Esana to steal all their accumulated strength and access powers belonging to other bloodlines, making the ''Faithful'' some of the strongest beings in the world. The process does have a flipside, however - consuming too many souls will eventually lead to most Esana developing some form of insanity, usually a multiple personality disorder, as the burden of carrying so many cursed souls takes its toll on the ''Faithful''.

[[spoiler:This means that EatingTheEnemy nearly [[BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu becomes a pyrrhic victory]] for Nabiki, as the conflict with her own Devil Fruit would have resulted in her being torn apart on a cellular level if she hadn't expelled her entire supply of blood, causing the second Devil Fruit to incarnate normally.]]

* In the 1980s Hong Kong, one {{Wuxia}} series involved long-lost twin brothers who befriended each other despite different upbringing (one was raised by a village of rogues, while the other was raised in an order of martial artists who's princess was once in love with the twins' father). Their worst enemy was an EvilChancellor who got his hands on a scroll for a SupernaturalMartialArts that was best technique. Unfortunately the secret behind that martial art is that its powers only activate if the practitioner initiates themselves by eating the flesh of their child. So one day the chancellor lures out his son and drugs him, before eating him. Instantly the chancellor feels the power kicking in.

* Subverted in ''Series/{{Heroes}}'', where Sylar acquires other people's superpowers by slicing their head open and ''studying'' their brain. When asked if he eats the brains, he says "that's disgusting". The reason this trope being averted is noteworthy comes from the longstanding fandom joke/{{Fanon}} that he ''did'' gain people's superpowers by eating their brains, which was eventually {{Jossed}} because the writers (who had considered it) thought it was too silly.
