[[caption-width-right:255:[[AsskickingEqualsAuthority THE MUSTACHE COMMANDS IT.]]]]

->''"I grew this moustache through sheer force of will, don't tell me I'm not ready."''
-->-- '''Gordito Delgado''' (age 12), ''Webcomic/TheAdventuresOfDrMcNinja''

[[WMG:[[center:[[AC:This trope is [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=1634930171060981200 under discussion]] in the Administrivia/TropeRepairShop.]]]]]]

Few things say "badass" the way a well groomed mustache does. Well, [[AlwaysMale unless you're a woman]]--although [[GirlsWithMoustaches that's not out of the question]]. There's just something about a man who carries almost half of his body weight on his upper lip that ''screams'', "I came here to kick ass and ChewBubblegum, and I'm all outta gum." Growing a 'stache (or turning up with one after an absence) also works as an easy and quick way for an established character to TakeALevelInBadass. It may also turn them into a ChickMagnet.

A good mustache can also be used to tell the difference between a young, inexperienced rookie versus a more wizened adult. The mere presence of this facial hair can signify that the person sporting it is not the type to appear [[PrettyBoy delicate]], [[{{Bishonen}} young]], or [[{{Shonen}} boyish]]. Rather, this guy is [[{{Seinen}} matured]], [[{{Hunk}} rugged]], [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome and prone to awesomeness]].

[[TruthInTelevision In real life]], moustaches are considered more professional than beards and they were mandatory in certain services. In certain areas of India, [[https://www.logically.ai/factchecks/library/7b41d1a6 police officers are encouraged to grow a moustache or have moustaches as part of the uniform]]. From 1860 to 1916, it was [[https://www.thevintagenews.com/2019/03/01/mustache-law/ mandatory for British soldiers to wear moustaches]] and they would be arrested if they removed their facial hair.

JustForFun/NotToBeConfusedWith the BeardOfEvil. The Badass Mustache is smaller and more defined and does not inherently bring with it villainous intent. However, it is an essential style accessory for DastardlyWhiplash, who twirls it while cackling an EvilLaugh.

Not all mustaches are badass; there is a fine line between this and the PornStache. Growing a 'stache is not related to GrowingTheBeard, except perhaps metaphorically.

!!Examples:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Advertising]]
* A surreal ad for Weetos cereal involves a ''disembodied'' Badass Moustache terrorising a small boy for... some reason. Naturally, he's only able to defeat it [[CerealInducedSuperpowers when he's had a proper breakfast.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Animation/BlackCatDetective'': Black Cat has Badass Whiskers. When Hei Mao twists his whisker like a pimp, you know shit is about to go down. It is an allegorical moustache.
* ''Manga/OnePiece'':
** Whitebeard has a stache so badass many fans assume he'll use it as a sword. In fact, his moustache is so badass it counts as a beard.
** There's also the late Pirate King Gold Roger. And Vista of the Whitebeard pirates. And Zeff, Sanji's mentor. In fact it seems like a disproportionately high number of high level pirates have badass moustaches.
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'':
** Fuhrer King Bradley, Major Alex Louis Armstrong, Brigadier General Basque Grand, Lieutenant General Grumman, Fu, Heinkel and Joliot Comanche. Golden age of the moustache indeed.
** THIS BADASS MUSTACHE [[MemeticMutation HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN THE ARMSTRONG LINE FOR GENERATIONS!!!]]
** Captain Bucaneer has a badass Fu Manchu.
* Prof. Yumi from ''Anime/MazingerZ'' and Prof. Kabuto from ''Anime/GreatMazinger'' sported badass-looking moustaches both of them. Ditto Professor Umon from ''Anime/UFORoboGrendizer''
* Kabuto's VA ''Creator/HidekatsuShibata'' seems to like this trope - he also plays Captain Dan/Ichimonji Dantetsu in ''Anime/PlanetRoboDanguardAce'' - a character so off-the scale badass he could make ''Anime/CaptainHarlock'' look like the slacker he is... (How he hides his awesome facial fur under his mask however remains a mystery.)
* From ''Anime/GalaxyAngel'', Colonel Volcott O. Huey is a usually even-tempered and complacent commander. But tell him his moustache doesn't suit him, and he'll revert to his combat days as the "White Wolf" and [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass proceed to destroy everything in his path to defend his moustache's honor]].
* ''Manga/CaseClosed'':
** Kogorou Mouri/[[DubNameChange Richard Moore]] has a neatly-trimmed moustache, and though his "badass" status tends to come in [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass sporadic bursts]], it does happen.
** Inspector Megure and Superintendent Matsumoto have pretty nice moustaches as well.
* Paul Moriyama in ''Manga/SgtFrog''. The 'stache is particularly touched upon in the English dub, but even in the original form, his badass status was apparent.
* ''Anime/DragonBallZ'': While the moustached Mr. Satan/[[DubNameChange Hercule]] is far less powerful than the main cast, he is still absurdly strong for an ordinary human. Vegeta also grows a moustache for a little while as well, but most people [[note]] his daughter included[[/note]] tend to think he is more badass without it.
* Soichiro Yagami from ''Manga/DeathNote'' has a thick mustache, and he would go so far as to ride a truck inside a building to prevent more killings from happening.
* Kabapu from ''Manga/ExcelSaga'', though (in the anime at least) his moustache is actually fake. [[BattleButler Space Butler]] too, and his 'stache is real. [[note]]In the manga Kabapu's moustache is real, but part of his hair is prosthetic, since he needs to have it balanced to stand up straight.[[/note]]
* Anime/PorcoRosso, a moustachioed pig who flies a plane.
* ''Manga/SchoolRumble'': Harima before he [[GrowingTheBeard grows his beard]], and then shaves everything off.
* ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'':
** Katsuhito Masaki/Yosho is an [[CoolOldGuy old moustached man who can still kick ass]]. Nobuyuki Masaki, while less combat-savvy, is also moustached and does help out with the occasional threat as well. Not surprisingly, future Tenchi continues the tradition by growing a moustache himself.
** Badass facial hair is a longstanding tradition of Jurai royalty: his great-grandfather [[TheEmperor Azusa]] sports an epic beard in addition to his 'stache, as does the latter's father-in-law, [[FourStarBadass Utsutsumi]] [[BoisterousBruiser Kamiki]] [[WarriorPrince Jurai]].
* Prospector from ''Anime/MartianSuccessorNadesico'', a surprisingly battle-savvy accountant aboard the ship.
* ''Anime/SpeedRacer'': Lionel "Pops" Racer.
* ''Anime/TheBigO'': [[BattleButler Norman]] has one, along with a [[EyepatchOfPower cool eyepatch]].
* ''Manga/MiamiGuns'': Chief Amano has a moustache and a huge afro.
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'':
** James Shiba, who also supports it with an EyepatchOfPower. Ma Kensei's moustache might count as well.
** In a rare show of vanity, [[WarriorPoet Kouetsuji-sensei]] is convinced that his own is more than a match for Shiba's. But we know better.
* ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'':
** ''[[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam G Gundam]]'' - Just like everything else about him, Master Asia's moustache is completely awesome. Subverted with Gentle Chapman, who ''used'' to be badass but is plagued by illnesses and old age when we get to see him. [[spoiler:And he later CameBackWrong.]]
** ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'' - Sergei Smirnov.
** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'' - Ramba Ral.
** ''Anime/TurnAGundam'': Fans (and detractors), and people in the series, often attribute this to the eponymous [[HumongousMecha mecha]] itself, and considering how it's the strongest of all Gundams, it fits the "Badass" part pretty well. The Turn A was designed by the famous ''American'' mecha designer Syd Mead, and represented a major break with the Gundam design traditions, which is why it was controversial in the first place. One of the key differences is that the characteristic Gundam's "V-fins", that officially house the various antennas and comm equipment and are usually placed on a forehead crest, were moved much lower by Mead, resembling the enormous pointed 'stache ''a la'' Creator/SalvadorDali.
** ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamAge Gundam AGE]]'' - Flit Asuno (Second Generation onwards).
* ''Manga/CromartieHighSchool'' - Freddie practically defines badass in a very unusual way.
* ''Manga/NausicaaOfTheValleyOfTheWind'' - OldMaster Yupa has quite a big bushy moustache.
* Ren from ''Manga/HimechanNoRibon'' has one wonderful moustache though he's a NonActionGuy.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Captain-General Yamamoto. Possibly the strongest Shinigami in the series, and his moustache ''blows in the wind'' whenever he releases his zanpaku-to. Bad. Ass. Flashbacks reveal that he had the Badass Moustache in his earlier (less...''grey hair'') days.
** Yhwach on the other hand has badass mutton chops. For reference, mutton chops are an archaic facial hair style where the [[RuleOfCool moustache extends and conjoins with the sideburns.]] His mustache also grows thicker and thicker over the course of the series.
* Shunsaku Ban imitator Dr. Reichwein from ''Manga/{{Monster}}'' is another example.
** Shunsaku is most likely a tribute to Higeoyaji (see below), since Author Creator/NaokiUrasawa paid huge homage to ''Creator/OsamuTezuka's ''Manga/AstroBoy'' in ''Manga/{{Pluto}}''
* Higeoyaji - Best known for starring in ''Manga/AstroBoy'', is a multi-dimensional character in ''Creator/OsamuTezuka'''s Star System. He is also know as "Old Man Moustache" or "Dr. Walrus".
* ''Anime/LegendOfGalacticHeroes'''s Ernest Mecklinger - Because nothing shows authority like wearing black, a mustache and a bowl haircut.
* ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' - When Alucard has his final release state activated, it causes his appearance to revert to his original form as Vlad Tepes, complete with moustache (see RealLife examples). Seras finds herself unable to focus on anything else.
* ''LightNovel/TheFamiliarOfZero'' - Although minor characters, both Louise's father and General Poitier have quite the moustaches. Louise's father's moustache is reminiscent of Kabapu's from ''Manga/ExcelSaga''.
* ''Anime/YuGiOh'' - Gozaburo Kaiba has [[http://www.shadowlordinc.com/characters/Yu-Gi-Oh/2-GozaburoKaiba.jpg a nice 'stash,]] to go with his HotBloodedSideburns and BigOlEyebrows.
* Makarov from ''Manga/FairyTail''.
* The Principal from ''{{Manga/Hyakko}}''.
* Unlike his historical counterpart (who, as far as anyone can tell, only sported wicked sideburns), Junot in Tetsuya Hasegawa's ''Napoleon'' manga has a huge black moustache.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Arts]]
* Often appears in Indian art, especially that of Raja Ravi Varma. See examples [[http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/Ravi_Varma-Ravana_Sita_Jathayu.jpg here]] and [[http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f6/Ravi_Varma-Shantanu_and_Satyavati.jpg here]]. Considering that both of these are depictions of the ''Literature/{{Ramayana}}'' and ''Literature/{{Mahabharata}}'', this could arguably make the trope OlderThanFeudalism.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/AlbertEinsteinTimeMason'': Albert Einstein, of course. In this incarnation, a young Albert Einstein with a little black mustache battles evil across the timeline.
* Nikolai from ''ComicBook/AssassinsCreedTheFall'' sports a particularly glorious moustache. He's also a ''very'' skilled assassin.
* From ''Franchise/{{Batman}}'', both Commissioner Gordon and Alfred apply. Even Batman had one (albeit briefly) in ''ComicBook/BatmanTheDarkKnightReturns''.
* ComicBook/GreenArrow sports one fairly often. Of the moustache-and-goatee variety. It is magnificent, if detrimental to maintaining a secret identity.
* Same thing with Travis Morgan of ''ComicBook/TheWarlord''.
* The Comedian from ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}''.
* The Corinthian gets one of these briefly in ''ComicBook/TheSandman'' spinoff ''Death In Venice''. It makes him look like a badass, verging on making him look ridiculous.
* Demon from ''ComicBook/JusticeMachine''.
* Master Lin from ''ComicBook/DeadlyClass''.
* Omni-Man in ''ComicBook/{{Invincible}}'', who comes from a race of moustachio'd supermen. Apparently they don't even grow beards, just moustaches. One in-disguise Viltrumite reveals himself by pulling off a fake beard (but the moustache was real). And of course, they're all pretty powerful, all the way to their [[AsskickingEqualsAuthority leader and strongest fighter]] Thragg and his [[FreddieMercopy Freddie Mercury 'stache]].
* ''ComicBook/{{Asterix}}'' - Asterix has a fantastic moustache, yellow, droopy, and above all badass. This could apply to all the Britons from 'Asterix in Britanny' : they all have beautiful moustaches and are all badasses. Most of the Gauls have moustaches. Most of the Gauls are badasses. There's their huge, muscular [[TheBlacksmith blacksmith]], their chief who rarely travels on foot but instead on shield, their bard, who can, as of recent books, [[DreadfulMusician summon rain and storms by striking only a few chords...]] it's easier to count the folks who ''don't'' have these.
* [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Wiesenthal Simon Wiesenthal]] from ''ComicBook/SimonSaysNaziHunter'' has a mustache. He also kicks Nazi butt like nobody's business.
* ''ComicBook/{{Sinestro}}'' - Sinestro has a pencil thin evil Moustache reminiscent of Creator/DavidNiven.
* ''ComicBook/IronMan'': Tony Stark, all the way. Later evolved into a Badass Van Dyke. [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_van_Dyck Anthony]] Edward Stark.
* In ''ComicBook/XMen'' ''ComicBook/{{Cyclops}}''' father, Corsair, is a badass SpacePirate with a seriously badass moustache. Cyclops worked out that Corsair was his father when he had to go without shaving for a couple of weeks, and realized that his new moustache was exactly as badass as Corsair's.
* Mack "Clownface" Delgado from ''ComicBook/BodyBags'' has one, only seen when he removes his clownface mask.
* In ''ComicBook/GothamCentral'', Sergeant "Sarge" Davies has a nice, thick moustache, and is very proud of it and all relevant facial hair.
-->'''Detective Crowe:''' People don't trust a moustache anymore. It's just a cultural thing. Don't ask me to explain it.\\
'''Sarge Davies:''' What about [[UsefulNotes/TheodoreRoosevelt Teddy Roosevelt]]? He had a ''handlebar'' moustache.\\
'''Crowe:''' Different era, Sarge. You telling me you'd vote for some guy with a handlebar moustache in this day and age?\\
'''Sarge:''' Hell, yes. Anyone puts that kind of attention into a 'stache has just got ''class''. I don't care what year it is.
* Franchise/GreenLantern: Guy Gardner has a very large, brushy, droopy moustache in the ''Comicbook/{{Supergirl}}'' storyline ''ComicBook/RedDaughterOfKrypton''.
* Captain Hunter from the ''ComicBook/AtariForce'' second series has one, while Blackjak combines his with PermaStubble.
* ComicBook/DoctorStrange, moustached "Master of the Mystic (and Martial) Arts". The style varies, and he sometimes pairs it with a goatee, but he always has the 'stache.
* ''{{Franchise/Tintin}}'': General Alcazar. To a (much) lesser degree, [[{{Pun}} Kûrvi-Tasch]] (used as an UnusualEuphemism by Bordurians) and the Thompsons (who are accused of copying Kûrvi-Tasch's. Their response is to claim they've been wearing them since they were born. [[{{Spoonerism}} More precisely, they were worn bearing them]]).
** Thompson and Thompson should count to.
* Spike and Angel in the flashback at the start of issue #3 of ''ComicBook/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicIDW''.
* Judge Guthrie from ''ComicBook/JudgeDredd'' sports one. His moustache is so badass that [[spoiler: when he loses [[AnArmAndALeg his limbs]] and part of his head in an explosion, it's the only part of him that manages to survive unscathed.]]
* ''ComicBook/BlakeAndMortimer'': Blake has a small IAmVeryBritish moustache.
* ''ComicBook/SpirouAndFantasio'': The Count has a large bushy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/SuskeEnWiske'':
** Aunt Sidonia's father, nicknamed ''"De Snorrende Snor"'' (''"The Purring Moustache"'' has a small moustache. ( ''"snorren"'' is a Dutch word for driving around in a loud auto- or motormobile, which is his favorite way of transport.)
** Lambik is a subversion. For decades fans have wondered whether he actually has a moustache or if it's just part of his upper lip? The comic strip creators have confirmed that it is indeed a moustache.
* ''ComicStrip/{{Nero}}'': Meneer Pheip and even his infant son, Clo-Clo has a large walrus like moustache! Kapitein Oliepul has a brushy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/{{Jommeke}}'': Professor Gobelijn has a huge walrus like moustache. Mic Mac Jampudding has a brushy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/PietPienterEnBertBibber'': Professor Kumulus and Profesor Warwinkel both have large moustaches.
* ''ComicBook/{{Cubitus}}'': Sémaphore (Professor Dingy in the animated spin-off ''Anime/{{Wowser}}'') has a brushy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/DeKiekeboes'': Marcel Kiekeboe. The real-life Moustache Club of Antwerp even elected his walrus like moustache as their annual "Moustache of the Year" in 1984, an honor that inspired the story ''"De Snor van Kiekeboe"''.
** Marcel's uncle, Nonkel Vital, also sports a big brushy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/LuckyLuke'': The Daltons have long droopy moustaches.
* ''ComicBook/{{Agent 212}}'': Agent 212 has a brushy moustache.
* ''ComicStrip/QuickAndFlupke'': Agent 15 sports a Chaplinesque moustache.
* ''ComicBook/TomPoes'': Wal Rus (naturally since he is a walrus.)
* Piet Fluwijn from ''Piet Fluwijn en Bolleke'' has a long droopy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/{{Clifton}}'': Clifton has a IAmVeryBritish moustache.
* Inverted in ''ComicBook/{{Superlopez}}''. López's mustache is pretty commonplace among everyman Spaniards from older generations. So, at least to Spanish readers, it's a distinctly un-heroic, even old-fashioned trait.
* Like his historical counterpart, Dracula in RequiemVampireKnight has a mustache that goes far past his chin. And then you factor in that Dracula is about [[LargeAndInCharge twelve feet tall]]...
* The Creator/GarthEnnis comics ''ComicBook/AdventuresInTheRifleBrigade'' and ''ComicBook/BloodyMary'' both feature so-British_it-hurts officers-and-gentlemen badasses with a mustache only rivalled by Lord Kitchener.
* ''ComicBook/WendigoWood'': Hank Williamson has a moustache, and saw combat in Korea.
* ''Franchise/WonderWoman'' [[ComicBook/WonderWoman1942 Vol 1]]: {{Colonel|Badass}} (later General) Darnell, who was ComicBook/SteveTrevor and Diana "Prince"'s unflappable superior officer during and immediately following WWII kept a thin well manicured mustache.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* Jon tries to grow one in a series of ''ComicStrip/{{Garfield}}'' strips; being Jon, he fails miserably.
* Uncle Max from ''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes'' also has a pretty snazzy mustache.
* ComicStrip/MandrakeTheMagician, being a dapper badass, has a pencil mustache.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* Fergus [=MacSmurf=], the BraveScot Smurf of ''Fanfic/HeroTheGuardianSmurf'', has a bold mustache to go with his bold attitude, as seen in his fan art.
* In the ''Coreline'' story ''Fanfic/CorelineInvasionOfPortland'', Doctor Starwind (An alt of Gene Starwind from ''Outlaw Star'' who is amalgamated with Doctor Strange and Star-Lord of the ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy'') is described as having an epic handlebar mustache.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* Multiple examples in ''WesternAnimation/TheBookOfLife'' since this is a Gutierrez production and it takes place in Mexico. It's kind of a CreatorThumbprint.
** Skeleton Luis, Manolo's grandfather. His is so badass it literally ''beat up'' Chakal's footmen.
** Chakal's got a handlebar moustache that is quite impressive. But everything about the man is extra large.
* Finn [=McMissile=] from ''WesternAnimation/Cars2'' has a grille resembling a moustache.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheSpongeBobSquarePantsMovie'': Dennis, the bad guy/fish. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyjr8Pl2KRk "This is what a real moustache looks like!"]]
* Mr. Potato Head in ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory''. Doesn't leave home without it.
* Shan Yu from ''WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}}'' has the Fu Manchu mustache and is a [[GoodHairEvilHair villainous example]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* ''Wrestling/JesseVentura'' as Blain rocks a stache in ''Film/{{Predator}}''.
* Rod of the film ''Film/HotRod'' wears a fake moustache when performing stunts in order to make himself manlier. He claims to have some kind of hormonal imbalance that prevents him from growing a real one, but [[spoiler:at the end of the movie he's starting to grow one for real anyway]].
* ''Film/TheAddamsFamily'': Creator/RaulJulia's Gomez Addams. His moustache is a harbinger of boundless badassery, [[spoiler:specially when he recovers from his HeroicBSOD and goes rescue Morticia.]]
* Bill TheButcher from ''Film/GangsOfNewYork''. He could have kicked Leonardo Di Caprio's ass with his oily, sweaty moustache alone.
* ''Film/ThereWillBeBlood'': Daniel Plainview.
* Creator/KurtRussell's Wyatt Earp in ''Film/{{Tombstone}}''. Man, ''everyone'' in ''Film/{{Tombstone}}''. Just look at the poster on the page.
* Jules Winnfield in ''Film/PulpFiction''.
* In ''Film/BigGame'', Oskari's father sports a hella mustache. He hunted a bear with bow, arrows and a knife when he was thirteen.
* Colour Sergeant Bourne from ''Film/{{Zulu}}'''s [[http://fabulousblueporcupine.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/bourne-hitch-and-allen.jpg 'tashe and sideburn combo]].
* Most characters played by Creator/TomSelleck:
** ''Literature/JesseStone''
** ''Film/QuigleyDownUnder'': Matthew Quigley
* John Mallory in ''Film/AFistfulOfDynamite''.
* Bennett from ''Film/{{Commando}}'' exudes this trope from every pore.
* Nai Chan Nuad Khe, the Thai resistance leader in ''Bang Rajan''.
* Creator/CharlesBronson, at least since ''Film/DeathWish''.
* Captain Gordon from ''Film/GodzillaFinalWars''.
* ''Film/ManosTheHandsOfFate'' - The Master.
* The unnamed blacksmith from ''Film/ArmyOfDarkness''
%%* ''Film/BlackDynamite''
* Creator/LeeVanCleef as both [[Film/ForAFewDollarsMore Colonel Mortimer]] and [[Film/TheGoodTheBadAndTheUgly Angel Eyes]].
* Jason uses a badass moustache as part of his gentleman disguise in ''Film/MysteryTeam''. [[spoiler: The same moustache is used when he disguises himself as a lumberjack and Juan the Mexican plumber]]
* In ''Film/{{Bunraku}}'', Nicola shaves his beard into a badass moustache in preparation for a fight against The Drifter.
* ''Film/CityOfGod'': Dadinho is an ambitious, heartless kid. As soon as he's old enough, he becomes a psychotic crimelord, changing his name to Zé Pequeno. He also grows a moustache for the occasion, marking his coming of age.
* ''Film/ThePrincessBride'': Wesley sports one [[spoiler:as the Dread Pirate Roberts]].
** MasterSwordsman Inigo Montoya.
* Henri Ducard in ''Film/BatmanBegins'' has a [[BeardOfEvil villainous]] Fu Manchu.
* One of the trademarks of character actor Creator/TerryThomas.
* Foy from ''Film/AMillionWaysToDieInTheWest'', as explained by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE5uCw7y7g4 his song]].
* Splinter from ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2014'', sports a truly epic Fu Manchu.

* ''Film/MurderOnTheOrientExpress2017''. The greatest detective in the world must have the greatest mustache in the world.
* ''Franchise/StarWars'':
** Lando Calrissian, gambler and gentleman adventurer, wears a neatly-trimmed moustache.
** Casian Andor of ''Film/RogueOne'' sports a moustache as well.
* Franchise/{{Zorro}} is almost always depicted with a cool little pencil mustache. The character has, of course, appeared in films, TV series, books, and comics.
* In ''Film/{{Angel}}'', Kit Carson has a fine handlebar mustache, fitting for both a neighborhood protector and a former cowboy actor.
* BigBad Van Pelt from ''Film/{{Jumanji}}'' in addition to GoateeOfEvil.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* Ironically, despite having a style of moustache ''named'' after him due to depictions in movie adaptations and even novel cover illustrations, Literature/FuManchu had no moustache; he was explicitly described as clean shaven in the original novels, which was necessary for the makeup he used as a MasterOfDisguise.
* Many characters in ''Literature/{{Alatriste}}'', including the eponymous, for historical reasons: 17th-century Spaniards fashioned moustaches in general, and more than a few of the characters are badass, ambiguous, mercenaries. BeardOfEvil is more common in clearly evil characters.
* ''Literature/{{Dragaera}}'': Vlad Taltos. As an Easterner (human) living among [[OurElvesAreDifferent Dragaerans]] Vlad gets treated as a second-class citizen, and cultivated his mustache as a ScrewYouElves type statement, since Dragaerans have no facial hair. The badass factor comes from him spending about ten years as an assassin and mob boss before leaving the Organization.
%%* ''Literature/SherlockHolmes'' - Dr. John H. Watson.
* In ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'', Imperial officers with facial hair are pretty rare. (DependingOnTheWriter, facial hair is actually prohibited by Imperial military uniform regulations.) One who does have some is [[Literature/TheThrawnTrilogy Captain]] (later [[Literature/HandOfThrawn Supreme Commander]]) [[http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/6/69/PellaeonYVW.jpg Gilad Pellaeon]]. He's old, but damn is he awesome.
* Literature/HerculePoirot, Belgian detective.
* ''Literature/{{Dragonlance}}'' - The Knights of Solamnia are known for their distinctive moustaches, and are all badasses.
* Believe it or not, ''Literature/{{Dracula}}''; he was described in the original Creator/BramStoker novel as having a big, white moustache. This detail has been almost always left out of the television and movie adaptations.
* Literature/TimeScout: Kit Carson's moustache is a bit more Errol Flynn than Dan McNinja, but it counts.
* Faye Kellerman's Peter Decker is a tough, cool police detective with a ginger moustache (which eventually turns gray).
%%* Literature/ErastFandorin
* Although it's unknown what he really looks like (or if he even exists), ''Literature/NineteenEightyFour's'' Big Brother is embodied in the public eye as being dark-eyed and mustachioed.
* In the ''Literature/{{Safehold}}'' series, Merlin Athrawes has a beard, but it takes second place to his '''fierce moustachios.'''
* The Duke of Taunton, in the ''Literature/VillageTales'' novels, well in front of other candidates in the series (big pub landlord Mr. Kellow and the local butcher Mr. Mullins, for instance). Everything about the man bristles, and that includes his BigOlEyebrows and his moustaches. Which, being on the Duke, are thereby badass by definition.
* ''Literature/GirlWaitsWithGun'' is based on true events which happened in the town of one [[http://www.amystewart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Robert-Heath.jpg Sheriff Bob Heath]] - his mustache gets mentioned.
* Sported by Deputy USMarshal Curtis 'Longarm' Long, the eponymous hero on the ''Literature/{{Longarm}}'' series of westerns, and seen on the cover of every book in the series.
* ''Literature/VillainsByNecessity'': The legendary hero Sir Pryse was a paladin who sported one of these; apparently he set a trend since every other paladin who shows up in the story is described as boasting a thick, neatly-trimmed mustache. [[spoiler: When Blackmail removes his armor and reveals his identity, he's still got the same mustache he had as Sir Pryse, now just slightly graying from age.]]
* ''Literature/MilesTaylorAndTheGoldenCape'': General Breckenridge has a handlebar mustache [[spoiler:that stays on his face even in the brief moments when he becomes Gilded]].
* ''The children's book ''Literature/FireEngineByMistake'' mentions moustaches on several male characters.
* ''Creator/RoaldDahl'' seems to write a lot about moustaches and facial hair.
** In his autobiography ''Boy'', he describes the moustache on the teacher he feared most of all, Captain Hardcastle. The moustache was a brilliant dark vermilion, not small and clipped, nor droopy in the walrus style, but curled splendidly upwards towards his ears, as if intensely brushed that way.
** ''Literature/TheWitches'' has a character Mr Jenkins, whose black moustache jumps up and down like crazy when he shouts.
** ''Literature/DannyTheChampionOfTheWorld'': the village policeman expresses his annoyance and being poked in the chest by twitching his lip, so that his moustache comes alive and jumps about like a small bristly animal.
* Moustaches are mentioned on several characters in ''Literature/FireEngineByMistake''. One character grows an enormous moustache like so many aeroplane pilots have.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in ''Series/{{Monk}}'' sports a solid mustache about an inch thick and four inches wide. This is in contrast to Lieutenant Randy Disher, who besides being clean-shaven also has a thinner head and is noticeably younger than his superior. On the rare occasions where they switch positions of authority, Stottlemeyer will often shave his mustache while Disher grows one.
* The seventh season of ''Series/TwentyFour'' sees the return of seemingly dead and notably more Badass for it Tony Almeida sporting a moustache.
* [[TheBrigadier Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart]] of ''Series/DoctorWho'', who sports a badass moustache in most of his appearances. His evil alternate-universe counterpart in "Inferno", on the other hand, is clean-shaven. The Doctor seems unable to resist making note of this difference with several cutting remarks regarding the evil Brigadier's looks and personality over the course of the serial, which does little to lighten the evil Brigadier's mood. Slightly lessened by the fact that it wasn't Nicholas Courtney's real facial hair; it was a prop. His evil counterpart in "Inferno" is how Courtney always looked off-camera.
%%* ''Series/GameOfThrones'': Oberyn has one.
%%* ''Series/MagnumPI'': three out of the four main characters (Magnum, Higgins and T.C.) flaunt one.
%%* ''Series/BlueBloods'': Commissioner Frank Reagan.
* Richard Burke (Tom Selleck) from ''Series/{{Friends}}''. Chandler in particular seems to resent this and makes fun of it whenever possible. He's been accused of doing so because he's proven unable to grow a good moustache. Chandler did try to imitate him, with limited results.
* Delahoy from ''Series/TheUnusuals'' counts. He once leapt from the roof of one building onto the balcony of another to break up an assault. His [[DeathSeeker darker personality]] also contributed to the jump...
* ''Series/LazyTown'' - Sportacus is a subversion of the long, pointy, "villainous" moustache, as he is a hero, and an all-around good guy. Robbie Rotten suspects his moustache is the reason everyone listens to him in the episode "Sportafake."
* ''Series/MiamiVice'': Cool, collected Commandant Castillo (Edward James Olmos) sports one.
* ''Series/MythBusters'': Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. Jamie also combines this with BaldOfAwesome to great effect.
* ''Franchise/StarTrek'':
** ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'': While his [[GrowingTheBeard beard]] may get more press, Commander Riker's moustache is pretty badass.
** ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'': Commander Sisko, in the later seasons, when he started to look more like... [[Series/SpenserForHire Hawk]].
** Some Klingons in the ''Star Trek'' franchise sport the Badass Mustache instead of the beard.
* ''Series/{{Battlestar Galactica|2003}}'': In a slight subversion, Bill Adama from grew a moustache after the Fleet settled on New Caprica, pointedly to show off how lax and laid-back he'd gotten. However, he retained the moustache while leading the extremely badass assault on New Caprica to rescue humanity from Cylon occupation, so perhaps it was more in the vein of an extremely long-lived playoff beard.
* In a ''Series/TopGearUK'' episode, Clarkson, after spending some time in a "mood room" and deciding TrueArtIsIncomprehensible, decided their prototype eco-car "Geoff" needed a huge moustache. He duly got one.
* ''Series/{{Firefly}}'' - Though Shepherd Book's hair is the stuff of legends, his moustache is undeniably badass, as well. Simon jokes about growing the villainous equivalent after the events of "Ariel", but sadly the series ended before we could find out what he'd look like if he went through with it. Wash's own 'stache, as seen in flashback, was probably trying for this, but he couldn't pull it off.
* ''Series/TheShield'''s Ronnie Gardocki has one during the first two years of the show, before upgrading to a beard
* Ron Swanson on ''Series/ParksAndRecreation''. Not only is the man himself is RatedMForManly bar none with the strength and toughness that comes with it (by sitcom standards, of course), the mustache ''itself'' is badass enough to come back to full form within mere days of being singed or trimmed off.
* ''{{Series/Deadwood}}'' - While several of the denizens of the town of Deadwood are fond of facial hair, Seth Bullock's is the nicest. He is also the most likely to deliver a [[ExtremeMeleeRevenge richly deserved]] [[CurbStompBattle beating]] to someone.
* General Melchett from the fourth season of ''Series/BlackAdder'' has a magnificent moustache, to go with his UpperClassTwit persona. He covers it with a moustache net at night.
** A DiscussedTrope in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu3VeS2BdNg this scene]] in ''Series/{{QI}}'' which has Creator/StephenFry donning his Melchett moustache again. According to him prior to the First World War the British army used to court-martial soldiers who shaved their StiffUpperLip, and the panelists question whether it was wise to change this policy at a time of total war when Britain was in serious need of badassitude.
* In ''Series/TheGoodGuys,'' detective Dan Stark (played by Bradley Whitford) has one of these, which he addresses as "Stache" in an early episode. When he talks to his former partner at the end of a later episode, he asks him, since he's retired, "why you still got that bitchin' stache?"
* In ''Series/Danger5'', Stalin's moustache is so badass entire women can fit inside it. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e7z9X1YfGU Yep]].
* In ''Series/{{NCIS}}'', Gibbs sported one for a few episodes after his "[[TenMinuteRetirement retirement]]" at the beginning of Season 4. It worried the rest of the team.
--> '''Jenny:''' ''[to Tony]'' You're turning down a promotion because of Gibbs' moustache?
* In season 3 of the BBC television show Series/{{Sherlock}}, John Watson is shown to have grown a badass moustache in the Sherlock's absence, perhaps making it a moustache of sorrow. The jokes immediately begin as to whether or not Sherlock will allow him to keep it.
* Game show host Creator/AlexTrebek was so known for his moustache that many pop-culture depictions of him still show it, even though he shaved it off in 2001. Though he had briefly grown it back in ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'''s 2014-2015 season.
** From 1990, 5-time ''Jeopardy!'' champion [[http://www.j-archive.com/showplayer.php?player_id=262 Frank Spangenberg]], who won $102,597 in his 5 games, with a record-setting $30,600 in his last game, making him the top regular game winner in the pre-doubled era (1984-2001)[[note]]But even adjusted to present scoring, his record still stands among 5-time champions.[[/note]]. He's the only player to appear at every "all-time" tournament: "Super Jeopardy!", "Tenth Anniversary Tournament" (which he won), "Million Dollar Masters", "Ultimate Tournament Of Champions", and "Battle Of The Decades".
** From 1992, 5-time champion Jerome Vered, who won $96,801, the second-highest total from the pre-doubled era after Spangenberg's, and shattered Frank's 1-day record by winning $34,000 in his 4th game. He finished third at both the 1992 Tournament of Champions and the 2005 Ultimate Tournament of Champions ([[UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny where he and Frank finally faced one another in the Round 4 semifinals]]).
* Another game show related example: [[http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/zarutoro/imgs/7/6/76bbf528.jpg Kiyoshi Kodama]], original host of ''Series/PanelQuizAttack25'', sported one in his final year or so as host.

* ''Series/TheMandalorian'':
** Greef Karga sports a thin, black mustache one over his lips. By Season 2, it's evolved into a white and somewhat thick PermaStubble.
** Moff Gideon sports a well-groomed mustache.
** The Mandalorian's biological father sports a mustache and some stubble in Mando's recurring flashbacks of his parents rushing him to safety during a Separatist Droid raid. [[spoiler:Mando also has a mustache and stubble as an adult, even though his rule never to remove his helmet near another living thing means he rarely gets to show off his 'stache.]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Doug Fetterman of Music/TheProtomen had a sweet handlebar moustache that was accentuated by facepaint.
* James Hetfield of Music/{{Metallica}} used to have a Badass Moustache in the late 80s through the early 90s; later he took up a beard.
%%* Music/FreddieMercury in [[TheEighties the early-to-mid 80s]].
%%* RON MAEL of Music/{{Sparks}}.
%%* [[Music/LedZeppelin John Bonham]] had one.
* [[Music/TheBeatles All four Beatles]] had one at at least one point, though George and Ringo's are the most memorable.
* Music/NickCave adopted this after Grinderman for a little while, perhaps to compensate for a receding hairline. Does not disappoint.
%%* Music/FrankZappa
* Music/CaptainBeefheart , from the ''Unconditionally Guaranteed'' period onwards. He became especially known for it when he combined it with a fedora for his last two albums ''Music/DocAtTheRadarStation'' and ''Ice Cream For Crow''.
* [[Music/{{Motorhead}} Lemmy Kilmister]], probably the most badass moustache in heavy metal (or Rock'n Roll, as he preferred).
* Eugene Hutz of Music/GogolBordello. The band even sells t-shirts that show a picture of Eugene under the words "This Moustache Kills Fascists."
* The song by the Mexican composer of songs for children, {{Cri-Cri}}, "El Abejorro Mostachon" (The Moustached Bumblebee).
* Frank Beard is, ironically, the one member of Music/ZZTop without a beard, because he has a moustache instead.
* Tony Iommi of Music/BlackSabbath. In fact, Music/{{Ozzy|Osbourne}} was the only one in Sabbath that didn't have a moustache.

* Music/MichaelJackson's "Beat It" has [[http://img.webme.com/pic/i/imagenall/6mm.jpg the gang leader]] played by choreographer [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Peters Michael Peters]].
* Ray Thomas of Music/TheMoodyBlues sported one of history's suavest and most glorious examples of the breed, and successfully rocked it long after the winds of fashion had made the 'stache look silly on lesser men.
%%* Eric Nally of Music/FoxyShazam.
%%* Rudolf Schenker of the Music/{{Scorpions}} back in the 80's.
* Music/GiorgioMoroder's moustache is sufficiently iconic that it's been used as visual shorthand for the man himslef on several CD sleeves. He went clean-shaven after stepping back from music in the 1990s, but regrew it when he had a CareerResurrection in TheNewTens (though its effect is rather less now that it's white rather than the rich brown it was in the 70s).

* Ox Baker's mustache was so long the ends of it rested on his chest. Ox Baker Jr has an even longer mustache, albeit one that is also much less bushy at the tips.
* Chavo Guerrero was made immediately distinct from [[WrestlingFamily his brothers]] Hector, Wrestling/{{Eddie|Guerrero}} and Mando by a mustache so sharp it stabbed its way through his beard.
* Wrestling/SuperstarBillyGraham was famous for his long blond handle bare mustache against his darker beard. So famous Wrestling/JesseVentura, Wrestling/HulkHogan and Wrestling/ScottSteiner all copied it.
* Wrestling/RickRude didn't just have a mustache, He practically WAS a mustache.
* Hulk Hogan is so recognized for his mustache that when it was shaved by the Dungeon of Doom in 1995, it precipitated a full fledged "turn to the dark side" where he wore all black and cut bizarre promos while brandishing swords, talking about having his then ally the Macho Man bringing him Meng's head on a silver platter...
* Wrestling/TheIronSheik had a ''curly'' mustache.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roleplay]]
* Captain Marcus Gray from ''Roleplay/TheGunganCouncil'' sports one awesome moustache.
* Expanding to the rest of Creator/RoosterTeeth, Geoff Ramsey tried to pull off a beard like his Creator/AchievementHunter partner Jack Pattillo, but couldn't pull it off and later shaved it. He then switched to growing a handlebar mustache that has proven to be more popular in the long run.

** The [[AwesomePersonnelCarrier Taurox]] crew has [[http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/File:TauroxPrime1.jpg a particularly inspiring lip cover.]]
** Typically Space Marines have very little hair of any kind, due to either their trans-human physiology stopping it from growing or from their spartan military lifestyles requiring it out of practicality. Then there are the Space Wolves Chapter - bombastic, feral and highly renowned as being amongst the best Space Marines in the Imperium - who prefer viking-like manes and moustaches that grow long enough to reach their chests, and are braided and decorated in great detail.
** It is gaining popularity to show Imperial Fists primarch Rogal Dorn with a muttonstache, with jokes about fortifying his upper lip.
** Vostroyans are known for their large moustaches. In a footnote to ''[[Literature/CiaphasCain Old Soldiers Never Die]]'', Inquisitor Vail mentions the common and only partly joking belief that "the size and degree of grooming are at least as reliable a signifier of status as the official insignia of rank".
* ''TabletopGame/RocketAge'' is full of Earthling characters with fancy moustaches, which is to be expected when the world is still in the 1930s. Some Martian princes in the southern areas also sport well maintained Fu Manchus.
* ''{{TabletopGame/Warhammer}}'': Empire military leaders tend to sport some rather impressive facial hair, including large, impeccably groomed mustaches.

* Rhys was clean-shaven when he first appeared as a protagonist in ''VideoGame/TalesFromTheBorderlands'', but by the time you meet him in ''VideoGame/Borderlands3'' he has grown an impressive mustache. "It's a ''siege mustache!''" Eventually he asks your opinion of it; the Vault Hunter's response, whether positive or negative, is impressively over-the-top. And Rhys will remember that.
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
** Mario and his brother Luigi are perhaps the most iconic moustached heroes of all time. Unlike many mustachioed characters in media, Mario and Luigi eschew the idea of being the gruff, or hardened type, and instead have very youthful personalities. It's worth noting that they were designed with mustaches to get around technical limitations back in the 8-bit days- the programmers and sprite artists didn't want to have to animate a mouth on top of all of the other things they were doing (which is also why all athlete sprites in Creator/{{Konami}}'s 1983 arcade ''VideoGame/TrackAndField'' have them). The way the moustaches are designed are also indicative of their personalities: Mario, who is more active, has a bushy-looking moustache, while Luigi's is better groomed.
** The lightning bolt-shaped moustache of [[VideoGame/WarioLand Wario]] precedes his over-the-top badass persona. Waluigi has a distinguished pointy moustache as well.
** Wario's friends [[VideoGame/WarioWare Jimmy T., his double Jimmy P., and Dr. Crygor]] also sport huge moustaches. One of his enemies, Count Cannoli, has a moustache as well.
** Moustaches actually seem to be status symbols, and signs of literal badassery in the Mario universe. The moustache-bearing bosses of ''VideoGame/SuperMario64 DS'' pride themselves on their moustaches, and the "Stache" stat (which, humorously, the babies have as well in ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'') from the ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi'' games earns store discounts. The Stache stat also affects your chances of scoring a Lucky (read: critical) hit. Essentially, better moustache = occasional power boost for Mario and Luigi. The moustaches are also very much admired InUniverse and in the [[AllThereInTheManual instruction books.]]
** While it can never be as iconic as the Mario Bros.'s, [[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor Admiral Bobbery's]] moustache is easily in the running for the most badass in the series.
* ''VideoGame/GranblueFantasy'': Anre/Uno of [[BadassCrew The Eternals]] sports one that ''defies gravity'' (i.e. it always floats upwards).
* ''VideoGame/GryphonKnightEpic'': Sir Oliver, one of the protagonists, has a very big, curled moustache.
* ''VideoGame/MugenSouls Z'' has Bertram, whose mustache is used as a multi-hitting boomerang during his ultimate attack, and it is a REAL mustache that he can detach and throw. Helps that he is a lesser god though.
%% * ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog'': Dr. Eggman's signature 'stache. So does his psychotic double Eggman Nega, and his elderly grandfather Professor Gerald Robotnik has a droopy grey one. Moustaches, like baldness and insanity, seem to run in the Robotnik family.
* ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' - Dr. Wily, who plays a similar role (with a similar moustache) to Eggman's. Lampshaded in ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide'', where Eggman and Wily mock Dr. Light for growing a beard instead.
%%* General Donald Morden in ''VideoGame/MetalSlug''.
%%* Andrew Ryan from ''VideoGame/{{Bioshock|1}}''.
* The Handymen of ''VideoGame/BioshockInfinite'' sported [[NightmareRetardant fine]] [[http://i.imgur.com/YSUeST2.jpg molded mustaches]] in previews, but both their facial and head hair were removed in the final release. Many citizens and soldiers of Columbia still sport some pretty epic lip shrubbery, though; particularly Cornelius Slate.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Blaine, who compliments the look with some CoolShades. Lampshaded in the ''Manga/PokemonAdventures'' manga, where Blaine's moustache is a fake, because apparently he singed his real moustache completely off.
** [[SquishyWizard Kadabra and Alakazam]] also have one.
** Male Jellicent sport a fantastic white TabletopGame/{{Monopoly}} Guy moustache.
** Samurott also sports quite a wonderful 'stache.
** Kricketune sport a long, curly moustache. An impressive feat for an insect.
** Herdier, being partially based on a Scottish terrier, has part of its fur give the appearance of an impressive moustache. It evolves into Stoutland, whose moustache is ''as long as its body''.
** The Kami Trio of Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus.
** Following in Blaine's footsteps is ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite's'' Gym Leader-and-mayor of Opuleid City, Drayden. [[http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/7/7a/Black_White_Drayden.png The damn thing practically]] '''''covers''''' his face!
** Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald was a host to its own badass, [[http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3e/Omega_Ruby_Alpha_Sapphire_Drake.png/250px-Omega_Ruby_Alpha_Sapphire_Drake.png Drake]] of the Elite Four.
* ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty'':
** Captain Price, whose PornStache is the thing of legends. It is also hilariously old-fashioned, even when the series was set in UsefulNotes/WorldWarII.
** From ''VideoGame/ModernWarfare2'' we have General Shepherd, who manages to single-handedly take on two SAS Commandos at least 15 years his junior in unarmed combat (and very nearly win), as well as [[spoiler:being the BigBad responsible for nearly ''all'' the major events that occur within the game, including the invasion of the United States.]]
* ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' - Kai Kitamura is your only pilot with facial hair in the games he appears in, and an epitome of BadassNormal. There's also Axel Almer's Soulgain, which sports a ''steel moustache''. In fact, when it stranded into the OG world for the first time, it's nicknamed ''Moustache Man''. Yes, Axel and Soulgain are as badass as they get.
* ''[[VideoGame/LunarEternalBlue Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete]]'' - Toyed with and gender-reversed(!) very briefly in During the anime cutscene where the girls are changing Lucia's outfit, one of the costumes has a gigantic, fantastic moustache. It is markedly more badass than the other costumes Lucia tries on during the sequence, but the moustache falls off. Lucia may have been more badass with the moustache on, but the actual chosen outfit was probably for the better.
* ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters'': Villain Rugal Bernstein. Also, Clone Zero from KOF 2000.
* [[TheVonTropeFamily Von Kaiser]] from ''VideoGame/PunchOut''. Soda Popinski, too, to a lesser extent. Also Bald Bull.
* Solid Snake in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4''. A Badass Moustache is part and parcel of the "Big Boss" heritage, as demonstrated previously by the original and Solidus. [[EvilTwin Liquid]] didn't have one because he wasn't a true Boss. [[TheRival Revolver Ocelot]] isn't eligible for Bosshood, but he has one anyway, because [[EnsembleDarkhorse he's just that awesome]].
* Cid from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTacticsA2''. He's [[TheBigGuy large with big muscles]].
* Cyan in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI''. It makes him kind of look like Music/FrankZappa. Or Sean Connery as Ramirez from ''Film/{{Highlander}}''. Or some unlikely offspring of the two.
* UsefulNotes/OdaNobunaga in game series. Which, since he had one in RealLife, makes sense. Relatedly, ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'' and ''VideoGame/SamuraiWarriors'' also have Shimazu Yoshihiro and UsefulNotes/TakedaShingen, the former of whom is both an OldSoldier in both game incarnations, where the latter tends to be an extremely entertaining GeniusBruiser. Both game versions of both characters sport impressive moustaches, and ''Basara'''s Yoshihiro also goes into the beard territory as well.
* In ''VideoGame/BattalionWars 2'', a handlebar moustache is a matter of regulation among Anglo Isles veteran infantry, and by gum do they wear it with pride (though it's noted that a bazooka veteran should be careful to not grow his moustache longer than 4 1/4 inches or it's likely to be singed by his weapon's exhaust).
* Victor "Sully" Sullivan from ''VideoGame/Uncharted2AmongThieves''. His moustache is so badass that protagonist Nathan Drake rates it in his journal's list of scary things.
* Dudley from the ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' series: his use of this is a rare example of non-villainous ''twirly'' moustache.
* ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'':
** In ''VideoGame/DragonQuestIII'', Merchants join the Chosen Hero in his quest to save the world. Behold the magnificent mustachioed marvel that is [[https://dragon-quest.org/images/b/b5/Dq3gbart12.jpg the male Merchant]]'s huge, bushy, twisty black moustache.
** Ragnar [=McRyan=] and Torneko Taloon in ''VideoGame/DragonQuestIV''. Ragnar has a nice-looking blue mustache to go along with his pink armor.
** ''VideoGame/DragonQuestV'': Pankraz has a very bushy, think black handlebar. His loyal servant Sancho has a rocking handlebar, too. Although his is brown, and the ends curve upwards.
* ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'':
** Saxton Hale, while unfortunately not a playable character outside of mods, [[http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Saxton_Hale demonstrates his mastery of the]] Badass Moustache.
** [[http://www.teamfortress.com/loosecanon/09.html Everyone from Australia]] sports the 'stache. [[TheLadette Including the women]].
** Radigan Conagher (the BLU Engineer's grandfather) also has an epic moustache + [[HotbloodedSideburns muttonchops]] combo.
** The Soldier gained a miscellaneous item that gives him a [[http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Lord_Cockswain%27s_Novelty_Mutton_Chops_and_Pipe similar 'stache with chops.]]
** All classes gained a miscellaneous item that give them an [[http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Dictator epic 'stache as well.]]
* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'':
** The series has several examples, such as Tauroneo and Moulder.
** [[http://media.photobucket.com/image/Oifey/caoduy/Oifey.gif Oifey]]'s moustache is the reason he's the first [[CrutchCharacter Jeigan character]] to actually still be a good character at the end of the game, making all future generations of Jeigans follow his example. And as Phee shows, it's popular with the ladies.
** [[VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening Cervantes]]. "I have not lost or shaved since my first battle. [[InsaneTrollLogic Ergo, my mustache makes me invincible. Science, my boy!"]]
* Mike Haggar of ''VideoGame/FinalFight''. Mayor of Metro City, who ''personally'' wipes out the entire criminal element with his fists, dropkicks, suplexes, and Spinning Pile Drivers. He is said to weigh over 120kg, and over half of it is estimated to be body hair.
* ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'' is jam-packed with impressive moustaches. Let's see: We've got Landon Ricketts, Drew [=MacFarlane=], Edgar Ross, Dutch Van Der Linde, the American Army captain, [[spoiler: adult Jack Marston]], and many, many more.
* ''VideoGame/{{Fable}}'': The third offering in particular. The various protagonists almost all boast some truly magnificent specimens. Major Swift too, and Boulder and the indefatigable Sir Walter Beck. The Prince can as well, should you desire him too. When you sign the agreement to make Major Swift the army commander in the future, it actually says, "With a moustache like that on your side? How can you lose?" [[spoiler: Ironic that he gets killed...]].
* Yang grew a ''fantastic'' one in the 17-year gap between ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV'' and ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIVTheAfterYears''.
* ''VideoGame/HenryHatsworthInThePuzzlingAdventure'': The titular Henry Hatsworth, the QuintessentialBritishGentleman from the puzzle/platformer hybrid for the DS.
* ''VideoGame/GoldenSun'' fans had mixed reactions to Garet's new 'stache in ''[[VideoGame/GoldenSunDarkDawn Dark Dawn]]'', but there's little denying his badassery, since he was [[RetiredBadass previously]] a player character who helped ''save the world'' and all.
* ''VideoGame/{{Warcraft}}'':
** Footmen in ''VideoGame/WarcraftII'' had one, later they switched to face-concealing helmets but the Knights took over.
** The [[VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft Mists of Pandaria]] trailer gives us [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvYXoyxLv64 Captain Moustache.]]
* ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'':
** Draven has an impressively ridiculous Fu Manchu moustache.
** And now we have Braum, who has this huge red, magnificent moustache.
* In ''VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic II'', both Archibald and Roland Ironfist rocks fine-looking moustaches and are both fine examples of RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething. Roland gets a beard in later games, while Archibald keeps his moustache (it gets slightly less bushy, just).
* [[https://images.uesp.net//9/9c/SR-npc-J%27zargo_04.jpg J'zargo]], a [[CatFolk Khajiit]] from ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim'', has one.

* ''VideoGame/FallenLondon'' has a few, aside from possibly giving one to your character. At one point, you're able to instantly spot a whole bunch of undercover [[UsefulNotes/BritishCoppers constables]], invisible to the common man, through the "strength of their mustaches". The Knuckle-Scarred inspector has a messy one, though he probably doesn't have much time to groom it between episodes of strategically-applied PoliceBrutality. The Bishop of Southwark has a particularly good one, too, backed up by the fact the man absolutely ''loves'' to wrestle people like experienced tiger-wranglers. And the Pre-Emptive Guinea Pig, an armor-clad, talking KillerRabbit of a rodent, has [[OverlyNarrowSuperlative the most badass 'stache you will ever find on a guinea pig]].
* Leo from ''VideoGame/LeosFortune'', a little green ball of fur with a truly impressive soup-strainer.
* Raul from ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'' has a tiny, barely-noticeable moustache that nevertheless manages the badass feat of being the only facial hair to ever exist on a ghoul's face.
* Being a GenerationalSaga, ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarIII'' demonstrates that a male character has aged by drawing a mustache on their portrait. This affects your first- and second-generation hero, as well as side character Lyle if you chose to have Rhys marry Maia.
* In ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'', Link's uncle has a droopy and very bushy black moustache. And he may not be as badass as his nephew, but he can and did put an honorable fight before getting done in.
* Emperor Magulus in ''VideoGame/WardenMelodyOfTheUndergrowth'' has a sizable moustache. He can also slice through a bunch of vines with a single swipe of his sword, and take out a [[PlantMooks Plant Mook]] with a leaping strike.

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* In the world of ''Webcomic/TheAdventuresOfDrMcNinja'', a good moustache seems to instantly command fear and respect.
** Dan [=McNinja=] had his moustache revealed in a fight to determine who would be the next leader of the Ninja Guild. Even though he needed his son's help to win the fight, and he made it clear that he intended to kill his opponent, which was against the rules, he was instantly made new guild leader, and cut a hole in his mask so that his moustache would always be on display.
** In the case of Gordito Delgado, badassery actually ''caused'' moustache growth: he grew a thick, stereotypical bandito moustache, fully waxed, at age 12, in ''seconds'', through sheer force of will, when a social worker threatened to take away his father's guns. Naturally, the social worker backed down.
--->'''Social Worker:''' I'm so sorry... here you are... ''sir''.
** Frans Rayner, the rival Dan defeated for guild leadership, is apparently incapable of growing any facial hair above the jawline. But, after being beaten by despite technically winning their duel, he is convinced that lack of moustache is the only thing keeping him from taking over America, and therefore tries to steal Dan's, and later Gordito's.
* ''Webcomic/BrunoTheBandit'': Bruno Bunkleyutz's stache is shown to defeat Chaos itself by being so absolutely neat.
* ''Webcomic/AxeCop's'' title character was born with a moustache that is not only an essential part of his look, but also [[http://axecop.com/index.php/acask/read/ask_axe_cop_32/ contains robot hands that can hand him secret weapons]] and [[http://axecop.com/comic/ask-axe-cop-87-sensing-perfection/ gives him the power to see microscopic details and whether things are perfect]]. Flute Cop also has a moustache on the rare occasions he's a human.
* The Las Vegas Tsunami from ''[[http://www.thedugs.com The Dugs]]'' features a GM with a moustache. It has been seen to [[http://thedugs.com/?p=549 curl when he gets angry]].
* ''Webcomic/DrNonami'': Dr. Alfred Mechano has a magnificent handlebar moustache.
* ''Webcomic/EightBitTheater'''s [[AWizardDidIt Wizard Who Did It]] Sarda has one. Notably, he grew it as a means to pass time when he stranded himself in the beginning of the universe. He killed a few weeks with it (Only several billion years to go...)
* Mr. Verres of ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'' has one.
* ''Webcomic/TheWordWeary'' subverts this trope, featuring a character named Harry the Hipster, who, though having an epic handlebar moustache, is still clingy and whiny.
* Thanh the paladin from ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' has a thick [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair blue moustache]].
* In ''Webcomic/VoodooWalrus'' Grymm has been known to grow a particularly badass moustache on a couple of occasions.
* ''Webcomic/{{Waterworks}}'': Tubs the gangster, a freakishly strong giant of a man, has a prominent moustache.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Videos]]
* WebVideo/ItalianSpiderman from the webseries of the same name has a detachable, explosive moustache.
* ''WebVideo/TheAngryJoeShow'': Angry Joe sports one. In fact, it is so badass that, when ripped off, it immediately grows back. He eventually graduated to a beard.
* WebVideo/PawDugan had one in his earlier videos.
* Humans in ''LetsPlay/{{Bravemule}}'' base their leadership on the 'stache. [[ActionGirl Atrix]] earns rank by wearing a fake.
* The alter-ego of LetsPlay/{{Markiplier}}, Wilford Warfstache, sports [[RealMenWearPink a pink one]] as his PaperThinDisguise.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes:
** Yosemite Sam, arguably the best example of this trope, except for the fact that he is easily defeated by a rabbit.
** The Mighty Angelo, the world's strongest flea, from the short "To Itch His Own". Anytime he goes to do something badass, his mustache uncurls itself.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZWXRIlAl9w This excerpt]] from ''WesternAnimation/TheTick'' (as quoted in the Quotes page).
* ''WesternAnimation/JohnnyTest'' gets himself a moustache using one of his sisters' inventions. Bling-Bling Boy gets one, too much.
* Though it's also [[GoodHairEvilHair villainous]], the moustache of [[WesternAnimation/DudleyDoright Snidely Whiplash]] is one of the most iconic in WesternAnimation.
* The same can be said for [[WesternAnimation/WackyRaces Dick Dastardly]].
* Haru from ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' gets one. It has been continuously parodied/praised by the fandom.
** Since Sokka is a teenager, he ''doesn't'' normally have a mustache of any kind, but when he has to [[PaperThinDisguise go undercover]] as a member of the Fire Nation, he wears a badass mustache. (It's possibly the ''best'' part of his disguise, since other parts are [[AtrociousAlias claiming his name is Wang Fire]] and [[TotallyRadical greeting everyone with "Flameo"]].)
** Its sequel series WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra, [[MagmaMan Ghazan]] also has one that would make Haru proud. Bolin speculates that he started growing it at age 10.
* ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' parodied this with Peter trying to invoke the trope by growing a moustache. Naturally, at least some innate badassness is required for the stache to actually work, and Peter does manage to rescue a guy from a burning building while wearing it. It gets burnt off in the attempt. While mourning his loss of facial hair, he ate so many hamburgers that he had a stroke.
* In ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfTheGalaxyRangers'', Commander Joseph Walsh has a badass ''handlebar'' moustache, in keeping with the series' SpaceWestern theme. One of the Rangers, Walter "Doc" Hartford, has a more conventional moustache.
* Man-at-Arms from ''WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983'', who along with Teela is one of the most dependable heroes in the show, second only to He-Man himself. The same applies to his [[WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse2002 2002 version]] as well.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheAnimalsOfFarthingWood'', Sinuous. If there's any way you can work a moustache onto a snake's schnozzle, there you go!
* Chef Mung Daal in ''WesternAnimation/{{Chowder}}'', played straight there as he always boasts about how it helps him with the ladies. In one episode, he claims "This moustache ''proves'' I'm great!"
** A later episode has Mung reveal that the mustache used to part of a "moustache-beard combo", but when Truffles said it was distracting her from her Mahjong games, she ''ripped it right off his face,'' breaking the combo. That must've hurt...later in the episode, she rips part of his mustache off.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSpongeBobSquarePantsMovie'', Mindy convinces [=SpongeBob=] and Patrick that they are men by giving them seaweed moustaches. They spend half a minute admiring them before setting on their way, only to run into paid assassin Dennis, who rips off the fake moustaches and shows them what a "real" moustache looks like by willing one to grow instantly on his face.
* Duke Phillips from ''WesternAnimation/TheCritic''.
* The ''WesternAnimation/JimmyTwoShoes'' episode "Jimmy Gets a 'Stache" centers around these becoming a trend in Miseryville (even with the women), leaving Jimmy the only person without one. He does eventually find a living mustache who proves to be a literal example [[spoiler:that is until it turns into a {{Jerkass}} monster who refuses to leave Jimmy's head.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** Twilight magics a big-ol' moustache onto Spike's face in "Boast Busters". He thinks it makes him look pretty cool, and can't wait to show it off to Rarity... who, it turns out, isn't impressed.
** A later episode, "Call of the Cutie", features a briefly shown male pony with some impressive mutton-chops, in addition to a CarpetOfVirility. How facial or chest hair work on a being with a full-body coat doesn't bear thinking about (though some real-life horse breeds ''can'' grow beards and mustaches).
** In the "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" episode, a duo of cider-making shyster ponies known as the Flim-Flam Brothers appear in Ponyville. Flam sports a small but impressive moustache.
** Sheriff Silverstar in "Over a Barrel" has an impressive mustache.
* Raul, Manny's sentient moustache, in ''WesternAnimation/ElTigreTheAdventuresOfMannyRivera''.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThunderCats2011'' has several:
** {{Catfolk}} [[TheGoodKing King]] Claudus and his CourtMage Jaga pair long moustaches with a beard and a WizardBeard respectively.
** [[{{Lilliputians}} Lilliputian]] PlantPerson Emrick has a dashing little Creator/ErrolFlynn pencil moustache to go with the tiny twig sword he wields.
** RubberForeheadAlien MasterSwordsman the Duelist sports a very long, pencil thin handlebar that advertises his villainous nature.
* ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'' has Major Monogram. In "Save Summer", he was fired from OWCA and his mustache was given to Carl. In the end, he is somehow able to grow it back.
* The Mayor from ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls''. Although he's not much of a badass and his 'stache is pretty much taken for granted.

->''"I grew this moustache through sheer force of will, don't tell me I'm not ready."''
-->-- '''Gordito Delgado''' (age 12), ''Webcomic/TheAdventuresOfDrMcNinja''

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Animation/BlackCatDetective'': Black Cat has Badass Whiskers. When Hei Mao twists his whisker like a pimp, you know shit is about to go down. It is an allegorical moustache.
* ''Manga/OnePiece'':
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'':
* ''Manga/CaseClosed'':
* Anime/PorcoRosso, a moustachioed pig who flies a plane.
* ''Manga/SchoolRumble'': Harima before he [[GrowingTheBeard grows his beard]], and then shaves everything off.
* ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'':
* ''Anime/SpeedRacer'': Lionel "Pops" Racer.
* ''Anime/TheBigO'': [[BattleButler Norman]] has one, along with a [[EyepatchOfPower cool eyepatch]].
* ''Manga/MiamiGuns'': Chief Amano has a moustache and a huge afro.
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'':
** James Shiba, who also supports it with an EyepatchOfPower. Ma Kensei's moustache might count as well.
** In a rare show of vanity, [[WarriorPoet Kouetsuji-sensei]] is convinced that his own is more than a match for Shiba's. But we know better.
* ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'':
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
* Makarov from ''Manga/FairyTail''.
* The Principal from ''{{Manga/Hyakko}}''.

* The Comedian from ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}''.
* The Corinthian gets one of these briefly in ''ComicBook/TheSandman'' spinoff ''Death In Venice''. It makes him look like a badass, verging on making him look ridiculous.
* Demon from ''ComicBook/JusticeMachine''.
* Master Lin from ''ComicBook/DeadlyClass''.
* ''ComicBook/SuskeEnWiske'':
* ''ComicBook/{{Agent 212}}'': Agent 212 has a brushy moustache.
* ''ComicStrip/QuickAndFlupke'': Agent 15 sports a Chaplinesque moustache.
* ''ComicBook/TomPoes'': Wal Rus (naturally since he is a walrus.)
* Piet Fluwijn from ''Piet Fluwijn en Bolleke'' has a long droopy moustache.
* ''ComicBook/{{Clifton}}'': Clifton has a IAmVeryBritish moustache.

* Finn [=McMissile=] from ''WesternAnimation/Cars2'' has a grille resembling a moustache.

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* ''Wrestling/JesseVentura'' as Blain rocks a stache in ''Film/{{Predator}}''.
* ''Film/ThereWillBeBlood'': Daniel Plainview.
* Creator/KurtRussell's Wyatt Earp in ''Film/{{Tombstone}}''. Man, ''everyone'' in ''Film/{{Tombstone}}''. Just look at the poster on the page.
* Jules Winnfield in ''Film/PulpFiction''.
* John Mallory in ''Film/AFistfulOfDynamite''.
* Bennett from ''Film/{{Commando}}'' exudes this trope from every pore.
* Nai Chan Nuad Khe, the Thai resistance leader in ''Bang Rajan''.

* ''Film/BoneTomahawk'': Brooder TheGunslinger has a nice mustache, but Sheriff Hunt, played by Creator/KurtRussell, sports an enormous walrus mustache that grows on top of his beard.
* ''Film/TheHatefulEight'''s John "The Hangman" Ruth, also played by Russell, has a very fluffy muttonstache.
* ''Film/MurderOnTheOrientExpress2017''. The greatest detective in the world must have the greatest mustache in the world.
* ''Franchise/StarWars'':

* Literature/HerculePoirot, Belgian detective.

* ''Franchise/StarTrek'':
* Jake Talley in the ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' episode [[Recap/SupernaturalS02E21AllHellBreaksLoosePartOne "All Hell Breaks Loose, Part One" (S02, Ep21)]].

* ''Series/TheMandalorian'':

%%* Music/KingCharles
%%* Music/GeorgesBrassens

* Wrestling/RickRude didn't just have a mustache, He practically WAS a mustache.
* Wrestling/TheIronSheik had a ''curly'' mustache.

* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
* ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty'':
* ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'':
* ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'':
* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'':
* ''VideoGame/{{Warcraft}}'':
* ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'':
* [[https://images.uesp.net//9/9c/SR-npc-J%27zargo_04.jpg J'zargo]], a [[CatFolk Khajiit]] from ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim'', has one.
* [[http://wi-flip-ff.deviantart.com/art/Bulgarian-Assassin-367560670 This magnificent mustache]] can kill a man without trying-and that's without the [[Franchise/AssassinsCreed Assassin]] behind it. Sadly, it's only fanart.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* In ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'', Strong Bad's #1 fan, Fabrosi, is probably out ladying with that fake moustache he's always wearing.
* Weebl's song [[http://www.weebls-stuff.com/songs/Moustaches/ "Moustaches"]] is all about this.
-->''My mustache was curled by lasers.\\
Looks so sharp, avert your gazes.\\
Think your beard is so flash?\\
You cannot handle this 'tache.''
* Agent Wyoming of ''Machinima/RedVsBlue'' has been revealed to have a magnificent moustache.
* Marshall Bass in ''WebAnimation/NoEvil'' has a nice large 'stache, possibly because he's [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_Reeves Bass Reeves]].
[[/folder]]

* WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes:
* Duke Phillips from ''WesternAnimation/TheCritic''.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
* Raul, Manny's sentient moustache, in ''WesternAnimation/ElTigreTheAdventuresOfMannyRivera''.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThunderCats2011'' has several:
