** In ''The Tears of Eridianus'', the only hope for a war-torn, hellish Vulcan where Surak never existed is the ''katra'' of the ancient poet S'task, who teaches a philosophy called ''mnhei'sahe''. In Creator/DianeDuane's non-canonical but beloved Literature/{{Rihannsu}} novels, S'task was Surak's former pupil, who abandoned his teacher's pacifism and left Vulcan with his followers, the Rihannsu (aka the Romulans)... whose culture's guiding principle is a concept called ''mnhei'sahe''.

"Keras" isn't the character's name in this story or the Novelverse in general, Memory Beta took that from the Trek CCG

* IdenticalStranger: In ''A Less Perfect Union'', Kirk is approached by Sarek to hand T'Pol over for a secret meeting. When Kirk tells this in a meeting with the Vulcans, Sarek claims to have no idea what he's talking about. Kirk assumes that Sarek has double-crossed him only to discover it was really Keras, the Romulan officer from ''Balance of Terror'' (who had also been played by Mark Lenard). T'Pol later asks how long it took Keras to be surgically altered to look like Sarek. Keras informs her that, amazing as it sounds, this is his natural face and is as surprised as anyone that he's a dead ringer for Sarek. At the story's end, Kirk apologizes to Sarek for the misunderstanding, and Sarek tells him there's no need as he saw Keras himself and admits that his own son would've been fooled by the resemblance.

** ''Places of Exile'' also mentions that, from Species 8472's perspective, there've been ''trillions'' of alternate realities they've encountered, but Janeway simplifies it for her own sake into three major branches; The timeline of the regular show, where things work out well, the "Before & After" timeline, where Species 8472 use Omega Particles to render most of the Delta Quadrant uninhabitable, and the third, the one the ''Voyager'' crew are experiencing in that story.

Added DiffLines:

* MythologyGag: Going to happen with the premise.
** One of the casualties of ''Places of Exile'' is Mortimer Harren, the grouchy shut-in at the bottom of ''Voyager'' from "Good Shepard". Janeway laments that she never got to know him.
** The Doctor nearly makes the same quip to Annika about hair growth as the original did to Seven, but since circumstances mean he's not got a projected body, he doesn't.
** Even in an alternate universe, Harry Kim still doesn't get with Lindsey Ballard (though here, it's just because they can't make it work, not because of death and resurrection as a Kobali).

* AlternateUniverseReedRichardsIsAwesome: Somewhat inevitable considering the main premise:
** In ''Places Of Exile'', Harry Kim becomes Janeway’s NumberTwo, after the rest of the senior staff either dies or takes a position away from ''Voyager'', and also ends up in a relationship with Annika Hansen. Harry privately muses that he’d give up the former in a heartbeat if it’d bring Tom Paris back to life, but he can’t say the same about the latter.
** In ''The Tears of Eridanus'', the planet Coridan is thriving, instead of being the Federation’s ButtMonkey as in the mainline novel-verse.

* CallBack: Towards the start of ''Places of Exile'', B’Elanna notes that the combination Species 8472’s bioships is giving off a similar reading to a [[Series/StarTrekEnterprise Xindi planet-killer weapon]].

They find this infuriating, and believe that universe that lacks a singular history must be even weaker than they previously thought.
