Lunar Flare is a book series that follows the [[QueerRomance romance]] between a [[HornyBard flirty]] [[CourtJester court jester]] with a penchant for mischief and a [[GentleGiant large,]] [[KindheartedSimpleton friendly knight]] with a [[RealMenWearPink soft spot for baking]].

Their lives are far from peaceful as the knight takes up the role of his partner's protector, a job that proves to be quite difficult considering that Thedrick may be hiding a [[HalfHumanHybrid dark secret]].

The story also features a [[TallDarkAndSnarky deadpan]] [[DrJerk chirurgeon]], an [[LovableAlphaBitch asshole guard]], and a [[AFatherToHisMen fatherly]] [[VeteranInstructor training official]]--in addition to a [[HeroOfAnotherStory nerdy wizard]] and his [[SealedEvilInACan ghostly roommate.]]

!!Tropes:
* ADayInTheLimeLight: William's chapters, whose plotline has no relation to the main characters' as of right now.
* BadassAndBaby: [[spoiler:Beowulf and the princess, Maerwynn. Although Beowulf isn't quite a badass [[ReluctantWarrior unless he has to be.]]]]
* BadLiar: When Thedrick is trying to tell Beowulf what kingdom he's from.
->'''Thedrick:''' ''[looking around the bar]'' Uh… well, it’s called… the kingdom of… Bar… door… Bador. The kingdom of Bador.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Balthasar and Cassian's relationship is... [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther perplexing]], to say the least. It's a lot of death threats. [[FriendsWithBenefits And making out.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: [[spoiler:The ol' 'vampire hunter gets his arm ripped off' incident. Not only that, but Beowulf fights off several other soldiers at the same time and foils an assassination attempt on the princess. [[HeroicBSOD Doesn't end well]] [[ThousandYardStare for him, though.]]]]
* BickeringCouplePeacefulCouple: Beowulf and Thedrick's [[SickeningSweethearts very lovey-dovey relationship]] is hilariously the opposite of [[SlapSlapKiss Cassian and Balthasar's.]]
* BreakTheCutie: Balthasar was actually quite shy and an easy crier as a young boy. [[spoiler:Too bad [[ReformedBully Cassian]] bullied him into the man he is today.]]
* CastFullOfGay: Lunar Flare has a ''lot'' of LGBTQ+ representation.
* CreepyCute: Randall.
* CultClassic: Lunar Flare may have a very small fanbase, but it's very affectionate. Especially that one guy. What a strange dude, [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial luckily the Troper writing this page has no relation to them.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: Emil, and, to a lesser extent, Balthasar.
* EmbarrassingNickname:
-->'''Thedrick:''' O-Oh! Ha, I was simply bored and looking to annoy Baz, as usual.
-->'''Beowulf:''' ''[confused]'' Baz?
-->'''Thedrick:''' ''[suddenly very serious]'' Oh no, don’t ever call him that, he’ll probably kill you for it.
* ExpressiveMask: Maverick.
* HopelessSuitor: [[spoiler:Emil about Beowulf.]] [[spoiler:[[{{Polyamory}} Or so he thinks]].]]
* LiteralDisarming: [[spoiler:Beowulf [[LetsGetDangerous ripping Nikolai's arm off]] to defend Thedrick.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight: Beowulf and Thedrick fall for each other pretty much instantly. [[spoiler:Turns out Emil had the same thing happen when he met Beowulf, too--Beowulf's just that lovable.]]
* MarryThemAll:
-->[[spoiler:'''Beowulf:''' But you love both Thedrick and I, right?]]\\
[[spoiler:'''Emil:''' I… no… that’s not…]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Beowulf:''' And Thedrick loves both of us too. So, if we all love each other, then there is no problem, right?]]
* NoodleIncident:
-->'''Thedrick:''' ''[counting on his fingers]]'' Well… maybe I have been trampled by a horse… drawn wagon… and fallen down the stairs… and off the roof…and chased by a pack of starving wolves through the forest… and struck by lightning… on three separate occasions…[[OverlyLongGag tied to the back of a horse and dragged across the city… tied to a large kite and thrown off a cliff…]]
* NotHisBlood: This happens with Balthasar frighteningly often. He ''is'' a doctor, but... it really does [[NoodleIncident make one wonder]].
* OddlyVisibleEyebrows: Beowulf (with his helmet on) is often drawn with these in less serious official art and in fanart.
* PrettyBoy: Emil. [[spoiler:[[ShipTease He's actually explicitly called a pretty boy by Beowulf.]]]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Subverted. Thedrick could be knocked over [[PatheticallyWeak by a strong gust of wind.]]
* SlapSlapKiss: Balthasar and Cassian.
-->Eventually Cassian got what he wanted, when the taller man pushed him against a wall in frustration and then proceeded to kiss him angrily, scowling the entire time. That made Cassian’s nerves feel like they were burning and drove him to continue to try to goad Balthasar into angry makeout sessions in the future.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: When Beowulf asks if [[spoiler:his wooden stake would actually have killed Thedrick, Balthasar replies with:]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Balthasar:''' If someone stabbed you through the heart, would you die? Of course, it would work, it would work on anyone, you fool.]]
* SurvivorGuilt: Cassian has nightmares about his fallen men, and even thinks he should have died with them.
-->Every day he thought that he should have died there in the mud with his men, that he didn’t deserve to live on.
* TraumaButton: [[spoiler:When surrounded by his pupils, Cassian is suddenly reminded of an [[SoleSurvivor uncomfortably familiar situation]] and sent spiraling into a panic attack.]]
-->[[spoiler:But as Cassian glanced around at the other soldiers, who had formed a loose circle around the three of them with their weapons drawn as Cassian had ordered them, the officer's smile fell away. Cassian felt a sudden tightness in his chest, and he could hear his heartbeat pounding in his head.]]
* VampiresHateGarlic: [[spoiler:[[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]]. Thedrick doesn't dislike garlic because it hurts him, he just doesn't like the taste of it.]]
* WhamEpisode: [[spoiler: The infamous Chapter 9 of Crimson Moon. It opens with Thedrick running for his life from his boyfriend, who has discovered that he is a vampire and is now chasing him down with a wooden stake.]]
