* CapRaiser:
** When a person awakens, the level of the Blue (Essence Monster) they helped kill becomes their level cap. There are only two ways to increase their cap. The most well-known method is to kill a Blue of a higher level. However, that normally involves [[CashGate buying powerful equipment and hiring stronger adventurers]].
** Each skill has ten ranks which improve their abilities. When performing a class change, a person can choose three skill trees to specialize in, which increases the maximum rank of the affected skills.

* TrappedBehindEnemyLines: [[spoiler: The Inconceivable crashes on a recon mission, stranding Jamus, Staavo, Tarny, Shu in occupied territory. Unable to communicate with the others, they must find a way back on their own or at least get some place safe.]]

Nothing here says how to do it, but it's possible?

* AbsurdlyLowLevelCap: Played with. The actual level cap is currently unknown, but it would have to be over 75. However a person's level cap is set by the Essence Monster they help kill. It seems having a cap below level 10 is fairly common among the awaken due to the rarity of stronger Essence Monsters on the surface. Outside of the depths we have yet to see an Essence Monster above level 20. Although that doesn't mean there aren't any. The higher difficultly for hunting down and killing stronger Essence Monsters makes the process rather expensive and relatively few can afford it.

* PerpetualStorm: The Maelstrom is a giant wall of wind in the center of what was once a desert. It's effects are wide reaching enough that it has caused perpetual rainstorms far beyond visible range. Given that it was caused by [[spoiler: reality shattering]] it's unlikely the storm will subside anytime soon, if it ever does.

* MonsterWhale: Whales are the biggest problem for naval travel, short of the seldom seen leviathan. It isn't clear how much they have in common with Earth whales, but they seem to be about the same shape, but also have lots of teeth and are big enough to swallow a man whole. They have been known to attack ships and have more HP than the damage limit, causing battles with them to be drawn out as not even gold plates can kill them quickly. However they avoid shallow waters, as they have to periodically dive down into ranked zones to replenish their essences.

* ClassAndLevelSystem: People can chose a class at level 5 and will be unable to level up until they chose one. There is an unknown number of classes to chose from, as several classes are hidden from the menu unless you meet the requirements, which can be anything from having certain skills to allocating stat points a certain way, and even other methods. Classes can be changed at level 25, level 50, and presumably level 75, which can include stronger versions of their original class.

* NonCombatEXP: EXP can be gained simply by using skills, even if there aren't any monsters around. Worker classes are unable to gain EXP at all from combat. Rain has exploited this thanks to his high mana regeneration, using his skills constantly, allowing him to gain levels and ranks quickly.

* TheMagocracy: A variation of it anyway. While being awaken isn't hereditary, nobles are more often then not awaken. They control lairs that allow them to awaken their children and typically pass their builds onto them. Normally they wait until a certain age to do so. However this is not always the case as some nobles have chosen to harvest their family lairs or for what ever reason don't awaken their children. The exact details vary from region to region, but typically the head of state or ruling class are often [[AsskickingEqualsAuthority high level awaken.]]

* CrapsackWorld: Depending on the rank of the area, monsters can spawn out of thin air in the dark. This could result in the destruction of a major city in the event of a [[spoiler: rank shift.]] To make matters worse, because of how AntiGrinding works in this world, most people can't obtain levels or are stuck with low level caps. This leaves them at the mercy of [[MightMakesRight high level awaken]]. In areas where the Watch's influence is little or non-existent the unawaken have learned to treat the awaken as natural disasters to be avoided and get out of their way.
