* ''Franchise/StarCraft'': Ghosts - humans with psychic potential trained as assassins - are frequently subjected to this in order to ensure their loyalty to the regime. The Confederacy originally used memory suppressing implants, but after Sarah Kerrigan's defection they switched to using memory wipes which are harder to undo. This carried over to the Dominion with all ghosts getting memory wiped upon their graduation and after any sensitive operation, until [[TheGoodKing Emperor Valerian Mengsk]] made the procedure optional.

** Every now and then in the franchise, a character was ripped from their timeline into another, and they woke up with patchy memories. ** Generation 7 introduces us to the concept of "Fallers": Humans who are ripped from their timeline into another. These humans tend to suffer various states of amnesia, for example, [[spoiler:[[Characters/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Anabel]] only remembers her name, her birthplace and that she used to guard a tower (her Battle Salon facility), while [[Characters/PokemonLegendsArceus Ingo]] remembers knowing a person who looks like him (actually his twin brother, Emmet)]]. Only one Faller so far managed to avoid suffering an amnesia, and that's because [[spoiiler:{{God}}/Arceus has a hand in it]].

* This is a fairly common plotline in the ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeon'' subseries; nearly all of your {{Player Character}}s have their memories wiped with the exceptions of their names and the fact that they were once human.
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonRescueTeam'', it turns out [[spoiler:the player deliberately gave themselves amnesia as a test of character when they took on the task of saving the Pokemon world]].
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers'', the explanation is that [[spoiler:you had your memories wiped by Darkrai when you went back into the past to save the world]].
** Distinctly averted in ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonGatesToInfinity''; your hero never shows any symptoms of amnesia at any point.

* A justified version comes from ''VideoGame/AnotherCode'', where the Trace has this as one of its functions as a memory control machine. The intent was for it to be used to help remove particularly traumatic memories from people like soldiers or victims.
