** The game also has a {{justified}} example. The geth are established as having a hive-mind intelligence, where the more geth programs there are in promixity with each other, the greater their processing power and ability. When the quarians attack one of their megastructures, their desperation for survival and ''massive'' drop in intelligence due to the loss of so many programs causes the geth to ally with the Reapers, sacrificing the very free will they'd sought to achieve.

* ''VideoGame/BaldursGateII'': Double take in a row. In the midst of chapter 4, the BigBad captures the protagonist and [[spoiler:steals his/her soul]]. [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim He could then simply]] immediately insta-kill the whole party (as it is shown if you later try to confront him before rallying the asylum inmates), but he simply decides to pass the (idiot) ball to TheDragon who then decides to play cat-and-mouse in a [[ComplexityAddiction convoluted labyrinth for her amusement]]. Since they are [[spoiler:brother and sister]], one could argue that it is an inherited trait. It might be partially [[JustifiedTrope justified]] as they didn't expect the protagonist ot be so resourceful and she wanted to act independently of the big bad, without just looking his lackey. Neverthless, it will backfire spectacularly.

** Arguably the entire premise, if we’re going off the Magic ending, is based on [[spoiler: Sayo Yasuda]] picking up the Idiot Ball with both hands and scoring a touchdown with the bloody thing. [[spoiler: Sayo wakes up in the afterlife in her ideal form with nigh-omnipotent power. Yasuda then discovers that Battler is amnesiac and doesn’t remember their relationship or Sayo’s true identity whatsoever, or (alongside his family) anything about the ordeal they suffered under Yasu’s preparations. So what does Yasuda do to jog their memories? Why, torture the everloving shit out of him and his family of course, from creating a cycle of gruesome killings and prompt resurrections to performing successive occult [[MindScrew Mind Screws]], all while catching Battler in a battle of wits reminiscent of the fair play mysteries they have a {{Commonality Connection}} with that their relationship was based on, except with his mostly innocent family as the intended victims and potentially mis-blamed culprits]]! [[SarcasmMode Surely this was a calm, reasonable decision that was for the best of the Ushiromiya’s well-being]], rather than a horrific, hypocritical, and positively psychotic decision on [[spoiler: Yasu]]’s part!

* At the start of the penultimate level of ''VideoGame/SleepingDogs'' Wei [[spoiler: gets a message from 'Jackie']] asking him to [[spoiler: go to an isolated alley to talk about something]]. This after [[spoiler: Jackie was kidnapped]] in the previous chapter and his [[spoiler: kidnappers used his phone to lure Wei into a trap]]. And Jackie can [[spoiler: testify at the triad election which would at least ruin Big Smile Lee]] and [[spoiler: Big Smile Lee]] is fully aware of this. So what does Wei do? Naturally he [[spoiler: goes there alone and is shocked to find Jackie's corpse and a trap waiting for him]].

* An idiot ball is grabbed by two different characters in succession in the middle of ''VideoGame/WolfensteinIITheNewColossus'':
** B.J. goes to his family's ranch to retrieve his mother's ring; risky sure, but B.J.'s fought his way out of plenty of dangerous situations. The Nazis catch up to him and lift the entire ranch up into the air with claws from the ''[[AirborneAircraftCarrier Ausmerzer]]''. The idiot part comes with B.J.'s plan to hack the claws off the ranch instead of climbing up the claws, letting the Nazis take him up to the ship and escaping from there, or jumping out the window when he feels the building start to shake. B.J. and the ranch end up plummeting several hundred feet to the ground, incapacitating B.J. and letting him get captured by the Nazis.
** While B.J. is locked up and awaiting his trial, Super Spesh poses as B.J.'s lawyer and bluffs his way into the interrogation room, demanding he be given privacy to talk to his client. Then Spesh explains his entire escape plan to B.J., including the getaway vehicle that is waiting for them in the garage. [[spoiler: Naturally the Nazis, being Nazis, don't respect attorney-client privilege and had been listening the entire time. Spesh gets shot in the head the moment he begins his plan and B.J. remains captured.]]

* In ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIVApocalypse'', there are two very obvious red flags surrounding [[spoiler:Flynn's rescue from Tsukiji Konganji]] that the characters somehow fail to notice. The entire plotline of [[spoiler:Shesha manipulating the Hunters by masquerading as Flynn]] depends on this inexplicable idiocy.
** The Shesha Radar is destroyed by unknown saboteurs shortly before the operation is conducted. The Hunters make no attempt to repair it under the reasoning that it's no longer necessary now that Shesha has been defeated... even though Shesha has already spontaneously resurrected once and ''explicitly said he would do so again''.
** None of the main characters question how [[spoiler:Flynn]] was somehow able to [[RedundantRescue free himself]] when the last time they saw him, he was crucified and held in magical stasis.

* In ''VideoGame/FireEmblemEngage'', during Chapter 17, [[PlayerCharacter Alear]] encounters [[TheDragon Zephia]] with [[spoiler:Veyle]], a friend of theirs Alear believes betrayed them. Zephia, apparently in an attempt to deepen the divide between the former friends, tells Alear about [[spoiler:Veyle having a split personality- namely that her true personality is good and her implanted personality is loyal to [[BigBad Sombron, the Fell Dragon]] and Zephia's master]]. At this point, Alear realizes that [[spoiler:Veyle's good self]] didn't betray them, [[NiceJobFixingItVillain thanks to Zephia]]. Zephia gets another such moment at the end of the chapter when she hands [[spoiler:her Emblem Ring]] to [[spoiler:Veyle]], no questions asked... only for [[spoiler:Veyle, whose good personality is in control, to throw the ring to Alear]].

** Sae, a serious and no-nonsense prosecutor, gets one during the Okumura arc. Her sister, Makoto, is a member of the Phantom Thieves, an anonymous group whom Sae is trying to figure out the identities of. Earlier in the story, Makoto has tried to defend the Phantom Thieves to Sae, which would give her a reason to be suspicious. Makoto is instructed to steal some of Sae's info by putting a flash drive into her laptop. Later that day, Sae has decided to start working from home, not wanting anyone to know that she's bothered by the Phantom Thieves case. Makoto gives Sae the very lame suggestion to "take a bath", hesitating and pausing mid-sentence, which she ''does without question'', not even stopping to shut down her laptop. With her out of the room, Makoto is able to steal info from Sae's laptop. Rather than staying quiet, Makoto proceeds to make comments aloud. Sae ignores this, instead following Makoto's further stalling about putting bath salts in the bathtub and switching her toothbrush. Makoto successfully gets the info and Sae remains unaware.
