**Even MORE heartwarming since at the start of the episode, Rick teases her about using up his toothpaste. She asks for more while he's on his run, and he promises to get it for her. Rick loses an entire crate of toothpaste, thanks to Jesus, but grabbed the mints so he didn't come home empty-handed.

* Despite his coldness and that they’ve been at odds, Rick gives Deanna his condolences for the loss of Reg and says he was a good man. Finally, a warmer Rick starts treating Deanna like an equal having recognized she meant nothing but the best.

* Sasha shows how much she’s been able to find peace by being the one to counsel the bullheaded Abraham, and knowing that they should just sit tight until Daryl finds them since he’s the best at tracking.

to:

* In the aftermath, everyone is wearily resting and enjoying each other’s company. The wounded are being treated, and loved ones are reunited. Abraham also goes and gives a warm pat on the shoulder to Glenn, who’s back with Maggie.

* The episode shows Jesus is now completely trusted by Rick and the group. He’s pretty much the guest of honor at the town meeting and now finally treated as an equal and a friend.
* The fact that the town all agrees quickly to their given task of wiping out the Saviors, while also an awesome moment, shows how much they respect and trust Rick.
* Tara confesses to Jesus and Gabriel (yeah, we know) that she’s nervous about her relationship with Denise, and both of the men reassure her. Gabriel’s comfort is nice considering religious figures haven’t always been the most open to gay people; Jesus is nice because we will later learn he himself is gay and has surely gone through the same thing Tara’s gone through.
* While also a tearjerker, Carol tries to keep Maggie away from the outpost once they realize the battle has been joined. She says she’s not supposed to be here, meaning that she wishes Maggie could just be a normal happy young woman expecting her first child well away from the horrors of the apocalypse. She loves both Maggie and Glenn as her own that much.

* Abe praises Eugene for his plan to manufacture bullets, calling it good "thinking outside [his] cabeza."

* Abe praises Eugene for his plan to manufacture bullets, calling it good "thinking outside [his] cabeza."" When a walker approaches, he asks him to hold off so he can kill it, having no issue whatsoever still protecting him. And when Eugene asks to be left to it, he agrees, happy to see Eugene trying to step up.

*** On a meta level, this was also the last scene Scott Wilson ever shot for the series and one of his last appearances as an actor, as he died in October 2018. His last scene is fittingly in heaven, which takes the form of the farm his character loved so much.

* Connie and Kelly’s reunion, after many weeks InUniverse and over a year and a half out-of-universe (thanks to the pandemic causing delays in the show’s broadcast). On a meta example, this was the first time Lauren Ridloff and Angel Theory had seen each other in person since the former had left the show for other commitments and then the pandemic. Ridloff successfully convinced Greg Nicotero to keep the two actresses apart until they filmed their reunion, meaning that first time they see each other is the first time the two actresses had seen each other in a long time.

** When Daryl catches the escaping trooper, he doesn't even bother to interrogate him even though the man could probably give them viable information about where their friends are. He simply looms over the guy and buries a knife in his skull bristling with silent anger, threatening Connie's life clearly an unforgiveable sin in Daryl's eyes.

* Just before Lydia's arm is amputated to stem a walker bite, Aaron comforts her and assures her that she is so very loved. If anyone deserved to find happiness in the apocalypse, it was Lydia. And she finds it in a surrogate family that are prepared to do anything to protect her.

* Mary/Gamma earning Aldons trust and finally being allowed to hold her nephew for the first time since Alpha forced her sister to leave him to die. She then sacrifices herself to keep them and Kelly safe from walkers. After she’s murdered by Beta and left to turn and become part of the herd Aldon puts her out f her misery before she can be of any use to the Whisperers.

** Sasha's appearance has her reassure Rick that yes, everyone will die, as he himself warned Carl back in Season 2, but everyone serves a purpose in helping whoever is left move on. This is coming from the woman who sacrificed her life to give the group an opening to strike back against Negan, and bought them just enough time for the reinforcements from the Kingdom and Hilltop to arrive and drive off the Saviors.
* It's left to the viewer to decide if Rick's visions are indeed him visiting with his deceased friends on the verge of death, or if he's just imagining it in his hallucinations. The latter seems fairly likely as the characters don't tell Rick anything he doesn't already know. If this is the case, then that means they reflect what Rick really knows deep down. They all tell him it's not his fault what happened to them, and that means Rick knows that and will finally be able to move on from his guilt. He knows that Shane would be proud of Rick for hardening up and doing his worldview better, that Hershel would be grateful to him for everything he's done for his family, and Sasha would accept her demise if it meant helping everyone else.

* During the final clash with Beta, Negan specifically goes into battle to save Lydia from him. When he quickly is knocked down, Daryl goes to save him by mortally wounding Beta. The two men then leave together as comrades in arms.

* Rosita pointing out to Abraham that they finally reached their goal of DC. Abraham smiles, despite the RV being down to half a tank or so, and warmly declares that they'll make it in time. Though Abraham gets frustrated thinking that even after Eugene has stopped sabotaging their journey, the universe still wants to torment him for getting his hopes up, having Glenn around means that yes, they really do make their goal this time.

* Daryl is very uncomfortable with the clean, safe setting of Alexandria, but he's willing to put up with it as he declares that Carl and Judith deserve a roof over their heads and walls to keep them safe.

* Rick sitting with Glenn to hear what happened and the loss of Noah, assuring him it wasn't his fault.
* Carol cooks a dinner for the Monroe family to send some condolences for the loss of Aiden.

* Eugene and Abraham apologising to each other, with Eugene sincerely calling his friend a hero. Rosita also helps provide the final push to get the two men to reconcile.

* Gabriel sincerely apologizes to Carl for betraying the group and asks him to teach him to fight, for real this time. Carl makes plain that he has a long road to earn his forgiveness ahead (which Gabriel fully accepts), but agrees to teach him, knowing it's more important to take him in than to continue to brush him off.

* Gabriel tells Rick that he will not abandon him when they enter the horde and will stay brave and true all the way. Rick finally warms up to him a bit after treating him like shit all season and tells him that he knows he will.

* In a weird way, the Alpha Wolf saving Denise.
** Especially as he saves her twice. The second time, he is shot by Carol, and a group of walkers close in oh him and Denise. Instead of trying to run away, he holds them off and tells her to run, essentially sacrificing himself so she can escape. It's also heartwarming to see Denise vowing to save him after he's bitten.

* In another fucked up way, Negan seems genuinely unhappy that Rick's group have been killing members of the Saviors. Say what you will about Negan, he is 100 different flavors of shit, but he does seem to actually care about his followers.

Say what you will about Negan, he is 100 different flavors of shit, but he does seem to actually care about his followers. It's certainly a change of pace from past antagonists: Shane was willing to off his own allies if it meant his survival or what he deemed necessary for the group, The Governor was happy to massacre any dissenters, Joe was a violent bully, Gareth ordered his people to eat their own dead, Dawn lived in paranoid fear of her followers, and the Alpha Wolf showed no regard for the lives of his people in their assault.

Keep in mind, Rick socked Aaron in the jaw and knocked him out when they first met because Rick didn't trust him. * Daryl expresses genuine respect for Glenn after he lays out a solid plan to get the guns using his knowledge from delivering pizzas before the apocalypse.

* Lori and Carol take point in cooking a decent dinner for the group and the Greene family to thank Hershel for his hospitality. Sadly, Hershel takes it the wrong way and sees it as them overstepping their boundaries.

to:

* After snarking at Glenn most of the episode about how apparently awful having sex with him was, Maggie slips him an invitation for another round during dinner, a flirty smile on her face.

* Maggie confronts Glenn over telling his group about the barn, but Glenn says: "I'd rather have you pissed off at me and alive than liking me and dead." Glenn walks away a distance, and Maggie stops him, and comes to him to give him a BigDamnKiss.

BigDamnKiss to finally confirm that yes, she does like him beyond their hook-ups.

Added DiffLines:

* Hershel is in the process of moving the group into the farmhouse, having fully embraced them into his family. He even says he should’ve done it a long time ago. He also tells Lori he wants her and Rick to take his master bedroom since she’s pregnant and declares his intent to sleep on the couch if it means making her comfortable. He also later tells Andrea that Shane needs to learn to respect what he and Rick say, affirming he respects Rick as the co-owner of his family’s property.

Added DiffLines:

* While also a tearjerker, Hershel’s sadness over losing his family farm is this. He mentioned how he wanted nothing to do with the farm since his father beat him so badly he doesn’t regret not being by his death bed, but once his father was gone, he was able to reform the farm into a genuine loving family home like it was always supposed to be.
