As they try to get to their parents they discover that they're "too late" and their parents are hanging upside down with bat wings wrapped around them. Phoebe's response: "I love you anyway, Daddy. I'll love you forever."

* In "The Holiday Special", Wanda replaces Arnold's toy soldier that she wrecked. Later, the episode's whole cast joins Arnold and his dad on what would have been a lonely train ride on the first night of Hanukkah.
** Actually, it was Wanda's toy solder that Arnold accidentally got recycled. It gets turned into more toy solders made out of other recycled materials as well and donated to kids in need, and Wanda decided to join the class on the train instead of going to the ballet, which is what she'd been excited about for the whole episode and was the reason she was donating the toy solder.

Hanukkah, to see Arnold's sick grandmother.
** Actually, What makes it was more heartwarming? Arnold had accidentally gotten Wanda's toy solder that Arnold accidentally got soldier recycled. It gets turned into more toy solders soldiers made out of other recycled materials as well and donated to kids in need, and Wanda decided to join the class on the train instead of going to the ballet, which is what she'd been excited about for the whole episode and was the reason she was donating her original toy solder. She was also happy that another kid would be able to play with the toy solder.soldier.
** Arnold before the accidental recycling gets a private moment where Wanda sees a rock in his backpack and says that it's beautiful, "for a rock". He claims that the rock is for his mom, but when she charges to the bus, leaving him alone in the classroom, Arnold squees that she likes it and wraps it up in nice paper with a note for Wanda.

** Also sweet is the fact that even when the kids are messing with each other, it's rarely if ever properly mean-spirited (and if statements are felt to be too barbed, apologies will be given) and even though some of them are closer to each other than others (for example, [[RomanticTwoGirlFriendship Keisha and Phoebe are besties]] and Carlos doesn't appear to be as close to Arnold as he is to Ralphie (who shares his sense of humor) and Tim (with whom he shares several high-fives and [[DeadpanSnarker snark fests]] with), they're all friends and [[TrueCompanions quite dedicated to each other]].

** Earlier, in the episode, Arnold has been standing up for Janet, who has been driving the entire class crazy and calmly putting up with her rambling about her everything is better...until she starts insulting Miss Frizzle. Arnold's response?

* Sort of "Fridge Heartwarming" but have you ever noticed how diverse both the main cast and even the background characters are? And not just in terms of ethnicity, but even ability, such as Carlos's paraplegic brother and Phoebe's blind father. Chances are you didn't, because they were written as well-developed, identifiable characters (i.e., PEOPLE!) before anything else, making it one of the most effective pushes for equality ever made for children.
** Intentional or not, it also sends the message that, no matter who you are or what you look like, everyone deserves a great education.
