** And when he drives away the police with a gatling gun and a grenade launcher, the T-800 scans the area. The screen from his view reads "Human Casualties: [[spoiler: 0.0]]". He did learn, despite of the tremendous amount of LoopholeAbuse he pulled off.

* When John's friend asks about Sarah he's dismissive, calling her a "psycho" and a "loser". Despite this, he's still carrying around the photograph of her that he'll eventually give to Kyle Reese, and it's clear that deep down he still cares about his mother. When he learns that she's the T-1000's next target he demands the T-800 take him to Pescadero so they can save her. The T-800 refuses as it's mission is to protect John and Sarah isn't a "priority". John's response to that?

* One of the deleted scenes restored for the Special Edition is with Dyson and his wife while he works from home falls into Heartwarming. We see him explain some of the possibilities of what his research is doing. Does he point out it's military use? No. He points it out for public service, by relating it something as civilian as a pilot for a commercial pilot. He thinks of human lives, and the way he talks about what he's working on, he's hoping to help humanity which makes what we know about what happens with what he makes fall into tearjerker category. And it ends with Dyson putting his work at home on hold so he can take his children to a water park.

* The alternate ending that remained in the deleted scenes. We see an aged Sarah sitting in a playground in the future that has not been destroyed by nuclear war. She monologues that hope was given to her by the Terminator. And, as pictured above, we then see an adult John, who is not a heavily scarred resistance leader grimly waging war on the machines, but happily playing with his daughter. ''A future given to him by the Terminator.''

*** It may not be able to feel love, but that also means it can't feel hatred. Like Sarah says, the Terminator would never hurt John. It's sole duty was to protect him no matter what, it would do anything for him. Sure, not out of love, but it also wouldn't hurt him through hatred or neglect. The point is less that 'there's no better options' and more that 'a remorseless killing machine programmed to protect someone is a better parent than most human beings generally'
