** It bears repeating: Bruno, the family outcast who'd spent most of his life wishing people would stop hating and blaming him for things that weren't his doing, is willing to ''validate'' all those decades of unfair condemnation, if only it'll let his niece off the hook. He fully expects Alma will condemn and disown him, yet [[ZeroApprovalGambit it's a sacrifice he's willing to make]]. Bruno would rather live in the walls like a rat for ten years than be irrevocably parted from his kin, but he'll accept even '''that''' over letting Mirabel be shamed and shunned like he was. He stands up for his principals and lays what-little he has left on the line for love's sake, there at the very place where Pedro died. Like father, like son.

* Fridge Heartwarming: It wasn't just Dolores who was a SecretSecretKeeper for Bruno's continued presence in the Madrigal home. Thanks to his regular forays to the kitchen and his living between the walls, ''Casita surely knew too'', and never betrayed his presence or the vision that'd driven him into self-exile ... not even after Augustin's and Mirabel's conversation in the nursery, where the living house could overhear, revealed that Casita's own survival was at stake.

* Assuming you can get over the fact that they're, well, ''rats'', the rodents' relationship with Bruno turns out to be this: like Bruno, nobody ever wants them around as they're assumed to be creepy troublemakers, yet they're an unacknowledged presence within the ecology of Casita and observe the family's doings from the shadows. Even though animal-speaking is his nephew's gift rather than his, in his loneliness Bruno has built up a trusting connection with the rats: one that offers companionship and purpose ("helping the community"... even a furry one) to him and a safe refuge (with food-benefits!) to them. And that bond is clearly mutual, because when a Madrigal ''finally'' develops a gift that lets him understand what they have to say, the rats' immediate reaction is to repay all the good Bruno's done for them by recruiting Antonio to his uncle's side.
