**Where would they run to? The police clearly were already on the look-out for them and they, by the end of the movie, already had multiple law enforcement bodies on their tab. They could only run for so long

* The police barricade at the end. Why was simply putting the car in reverse, flooring it, and doing a 180 drift turn out of the question? Those big Cadillac convertibles have massive V8 engines that should be able to put and keep a safe amount of distance between them and the police, especially since the police cars were mostly parked across the highway.
