** Why the heck didn't Luthor drop a crystal into the center of the pacific ocean as far from any other landmass as possible? He wouldn't have caused nearly as much damage to the other landmasses, and he still would have had his brand new continent to rule. I guess it makes sense to destroy the United States in order to rid himself of the world's largest military superpower which would have been his only rival after Superman, but that reason still seems flimsy when he had Kryptonian tech.
