If anything, she was trying to impose hers by insisting something she barely knew anything about was what she said it was - in contrast to Pinkie, who would surely know her own abilities (and Twilight assumes Pinkie didn't do some self-evaluation in her own way to work out what the abilities to - and in a sense she did, as she's taken note of what each sense leads to) and Applejack who had known her longer and experienced the Pinkie Sense. When trying to prove a scientific theory, first you need a hypothesis and then extensive study and research to be able to back it up. It happened very quickly, but Twilight's study and research ultimately proved that the Pinkie Sense was a legitimate thing.

Rainbow Dash simply kept switching her number to go on later out of nerves, and Rarity spent most of the competition just beautifying herself, and neither of those stalled the competition in any way, so it seems like a screwup on the part of the organizers that they organized a contest for, let's say 50 ponies, but only left time for 49. The pony routines shouldn't be a factor here, as they should have a hard time limit, say five minutes each, to do their stunts and move on.

** Because a good part of Rarity's whining may have been intentional. She's shown herself to be an expert social manipulator, and the Diamond Dogs do seem to be rather easy to play. Once Rarity realises they're not much of a threat and they're annoyed by her behaviour, she deliberately cranks it UpToEleven. Notably they don't do anything severe but complain at her whining - so that shows that she can play them if she wants to. And that's exactly what she does. The moral here is that Rarity was well able to take care of herself in a difficult situation. She kept her head and would not be intimidated by her captors.
