* The Origami Killer's motive is to find a father to do anything to save his son. Wouldn't the poor bastard who bled to death in the Butterfly trial be more than proof enough that a father would be willing to sacrifice his life for his son? Why would he still kidnap Shaun (and presumably more kids) afterwards? He's got his answer. Why does the killer need all five trials to be completed?

** Deep down, he knows his reasoning and methodology are bullshit. It’s something between a temper tantrum and a rampage against fathers in general.

** It's possible that Shelby was still planning to kill Ethan when he showed up to the warehouse alone, but got roped into going on a rant defending himself and accepted his death or decided to call his bluff when Ethan packed heat. When he prepares to shoot Ethan in the other endings, he makes sure he is preoccupied with the grate. Shelby also had the same "stand stupidly" reaction when Lauren plugs him in another ending.

* So I just finished replaying Heavy Rain after buying it again, and this is something that perplexes me. If Ethan gets arrested you have the option to have Norman sneak Ethan out. However, if you forget to turn off the video camera first than in a later chapter Blake will chew you out and say "You're suspended, Jayden. The order is on it's way." Um... what? Whether the police have the evidence to hold Ethan or whether or not he's the killer is irrelevant. You have crystal clear video footage of an officer of the law coming in and assisting a high profile possible serial killer to escape, and you only chew him out and he gets suspended? There is no way in hell that Jayden wouldn't get arrested and interrogated, and maybe even charged as an accomplice. Considering how loose Blake plays with the law in the first place and his attitude toward Jaden before this you'd think Blake would jump at the chance to knock Jayden around a bit (especially if you took the earlier option to sock Blake one when you got fed up with his bull)

** Jayden may have connections back at the FBI that make him hard to touch, or Blake might know that his evidence for and/or treatment of Ethan is shaky.

Merged trope per Wick Cleaning Projects

*** To be fair, the police had the place surrounded, so Shelby was killed during a police operation. Can you say Jedi Truth?

*** I always thought these were delusions, and being hit by the truck was a metaphorical AdultFear. We know Ethan has emotional but neurological damage from the accident causing immense emotional damage, probably set up deliberately to avert InsaneEqualsViolent.

* The prologue has Ethan frantically looking for Jason in a mall that seem to have far too many people in it. There's no sign of big sales or a sales event like Black Friday that would justify having so many people in the mall that it looks more like a crowded train station. How is the mall so tightly packed with people that Ethan struggles pushing his way through the crowd?

***What impact? The car didn't even hit them, as far as I could tell. It really just seems like Jason needed to die to advance the plot in the direction the writers wanted. But I still, to this day, have come up with no other solution than Ethan breaking his own son's neck.

** From what I remember, a few of the victims have deadbeat dads. It wouldn't be out of the question for the police to assume the dads just took off at some point, or maybe even committed suicide out of grief. Given the fact that the killer's own father was an abusive jackass, it's possible Shelby deliberately went after boys with similar father's to his own, before settling with Ethan when he realised he wasn't getting anywhere and how Ethan literally jumped in front of a car to try and (unsuccessfully) save his son.

* It's implied that many or most of the fathers of the Origami Killer's victims have died trying to peform the killer's trials. How has the police not picked up on this? It's possible that the killer disposed of their bodies, but surely the police should still notice the pattern of the various fathers just dissappearing after their kids' deaths. Yet, it just never gets brought up during the investigation, not even by Norman.

*How can use of ARI can lead to addiction and overexposure can kill you? I'm aware some people have "technology addictions" and people collapsed or died from playing video games too long but with the former they don't suffer withdrawal and with the latter they play nonstop for 24 hours and not like 10 minutes like how Norman died. The most dangerous they should be would cause problems with eyesight like with VR headsets.

*** You can actually take it a very nasty step farther out: This sort of violation of due process can destroy a case--which is particularly bad if you do have the right person, because that might leave you without a case you can actually take to trial...which is precisely what he does when he does things like threaten the psychologist. Every single time Blake does something which taints the investigation? That'd be more evidence that would get tossed out of court, assuming the district attorney even bothers attempting to try the case.

* Honestly, a lot of this only makes sense if the police in this city are, well, not competent--the Origami Killer probably would have been caught before he made it to the necessary number of deaths to be a serial killer if the cops were following the basic rules for kidnapping cases...which includes monitoring the victim's friends and family for attempts to collect ransom.

Added DiffLines:

*** It's not just eight or nine kids dying on his watch from a serial killer, it's pretty likely they'd have had at most only one dead kid if they'd been doing some of the basics for kidnapping cases...
