The reason they can't have kids seems to be that ''both'' sides have issues, meaning that if either side didn't, it'd be possible. *** That's a cop out if I ever heard one. Being the ButtMonkey has always been Chandler's schtick, but it wasn't until the later seasons that it went from being a role that his friends helped him with to something they contributed to. Seriously, go watch some episodes from the first and last seasons; the disparity between how the cast treats Chandler is incredible. It's almost understandable why he became more immature and emotionally crippled the longer the show went on.

However, having rewatched the episode recently, there is a moment where it's confirmed that, if Ross and Rachel die, they want Monica to have Emma, but if Monica then dies, then Emma gets ''taken away'' from Chandler. Chandler asks "Okay, if you guys die, then I die, Monica would have to give Emma up, right?", and then Ross humours Chandler by agreeing, when it's clear that he doesn't mean it (Joey rightfully asserts "''I'' lie better than ''that''!").
