* Another subplot regards the staff worrying about Toby's astronaut brother making it back to Earth aboard the Space Shuttle. Sam decides they should keep each other posted on the shuttle's status using an arm gesture mimicking the shuttle launching off the ground as if it were a plane, signifying a "safe departure." During the president's speech at Rosalyn, Toby signals to Josh who signals to Leo, who reveals he had the meanings of the "take-off" signal and the "crashing down" gesture backwards, since the shuttle is attempting to land safely, not launch safely. Even better, this happens before the episode cuts back in time 12 hours, and thanks to ''The West Wing's'' consistent aversion of AsYouKnow, the viewer has no idea what "this thing" and "the other thing" are.
