** Also in Color Splash, Ludwig's Superbad Battleship of Doom isn't complete by the time Mario reaches him. The reason is that Ludwig is usually saved for last in the platformer games and usually has the most elaborate fight out of the Koopalings. In Color Splash, he's the 3rd boss. He really didn't have time to prepare!

This is likely a minor evolutionary holdover as Koopa descended from ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' who were known to have relatively small arms kept close to their bodies. He is momentarily de-evolved into a Tyrannosaurus in the climax.
