!!! Cartoon:
* When the Paragoombas attack Mario and Co. in the first episode, this is the first we hear of the SadBattleMusic that plays from time to time in the cartoon. When you learn that Goombas used to serve the Mushroom Kingdom, then turned to Bowser for no given reason (according to game logic, at least), it makes sense why the music for the Paragoombas sounds so depressing.
* Yoshi calling Luigi "Mama" takes on a layer of brilliance when you remember who Luigi replaced in the ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros2'' version of ''VideoGame/DokiDokiPanic''.

!!! Cartoon:
* "King Scoopa Koopa": At the end of the episode, the princess decides to deal with Koopa's Chickadactyls by setting them free in the wild. Considering the fact that their eggs turn any being which eats them into Chickadactyls themselves and are highly addictive, who knows what problems this could cause for Dinoland's ecosystem.
* In "The Night Before Cave Christmas", Oogtar opens Bully's present, a Bob-omb. Before it explodes, Koopa frantically tells it not to go off until Christmas morning. What was Koopa really planning to do to Bully with that present?
** A second layer of horror kicks in when you realize this: Koopa's presents were originally Mario's presents to the cave kids. Why would Mario give Bob-ombs to children?
* Hip's volcano in "A Little Learning". The Mario Bros. turn the pipes around but how much of Dome City or Dinosaur Land could the lava that already spewed out have destroyed?
** Speaking of the volcano, at the end of the episode, the lava is flowing into King Koopa's room, and has nearly covered his bed. The episode ends with him screaming and begging for help. This was the second to last episode of any Mario cartoon. The final episode has him only appear in flashback.

It's not fridge horror if the villain says exactly what he plans to do to his victims.

* "King Scoopa Koopa": What King Koopa could have done to the cavepeople, Luigi and Yoshi after they mutated into Chickadactyls (make them his mooks, turn them into food, eat them himself, etc.). Luigi also provides some when he tells Mario it's a good thing he doesn't like eggs.

Moved from Super Mario Bros.

Added DiffLines:

* Getting all or any of the switch palaces basically enables easy mode. It was kind of a clever way to allow players difficulty options.
* The color scheme "yellow, red, blue and green" shows up in the switch palaces, Yoshi colors, and shell colors. This is because those are the colors on the Japanese SNES controller, and ''Super Mario World'' was a SNES launch title.
** Related to this, one may notice that the Koopalings in this game also follow this color scheme, with some (Roy and Ludwig being notable examples) being drastically different to their ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'' colors; Larry and Morton are green, Wendy is red, Iggy and Roy are blue, and Lemmy and Ludwig are yellow. This corresponds to the order they are fought in ''3'' (which is also thought to be their birth order from youngest to oldest). Just as the green Koopa Troopas are the most basic and the yellow ones are the strongest, the green Koopalings are the youngest and the yellow Koopalings are the oldest.

* Since Mario and Luigi are both surnamed "Mario", it makes instances where ''Luigi'' beats a castle, and the text stating ''Mario'' did the job still technically accurate.

* After completing the Special zone, the whole game world gets a cosmetic upgrade to a Halloween theme, with autumn colors, Piranha Plants replaced by pumpkins, and ''Koopa Troopas wearing Mario masks''. Why Mario masks? Because Halloween masks are supposed to be scary, and to Koopa Troopas, [[MookHorrorShow the plumber who regularly stomps them is the scariest of all]].

** What makes matters worse is the last area. It's implied there are survivor Koopa Troopas that were forgotten by Bowser and the Koopalings ... especially for the fact that it's not too far from Wendy's castle.

* How did the Sunken Ghost Ship get to be so ludicrously full of ghosts? It apparently crashed into the sea... meaning that the various Koopa Troopers and Rocky Wrenches that we saw aboard the airships in the previous game likely died on impact, and are doomed to haunt the wreck forever.

* Why do the blocks activated by the Switch Palaces have exclamation points rather than question marks? Because you always know exactly what they'll contain (Yellow: Super Mushroom, Green: Feather, Red & Blue: Nothing).
