[[quoteright:289:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the-tunnel-009_203.jpg]]

A 2011 Australian horror mockumentary, directed by Carlo Ledesma, starring Bel Deliá, Andy Rodoreda, Steve Davis and Luke Arnold.

French/English remake of the Swedish/Danish NordicNoir series ''Series/BronBroen'', and not to be confused with the American/Mexican remake known as ''[[{{Series/TheBridgeUS}} The Bridge]]''. Though it closely follows the plot of the original, a key difference (as the title would suggest) is that a body is found in the Eurotunnel rather than on a bridge, right on the border between France and England.

It follows the investigation of British police DCI Karl Roebuck (Creator/StephenDillane) and French Brigade Criminelle Captain Elise Wasserman (Creator/ClemencePoesy), who are forced to work together due to the location of the body. The task is given an extra twist when they realize that there are actually two bodies: the head and torso of a French politician and the lower half of a Welsh prostitute.

The investigation soon turns into a hunt for a terrorist (nicknamed the Truth Terrorist, or TT) who is leaving strange messages on social media sites, claiming that everything he does is to draw attention to social problems in both countries.

A second series has already aired in both Britain and France in 2016, known as ''The Tunnel: Sabotage''. It will conclude with a third season, known as ''The Tunnel: Vengeance''.

*BeneathTheEarth: Most of the film takes place in an abandoned railways system under Sydney, where the film crew was going to report as to why the government suddenly abandoned a plan to use water from an untapped lake. They claim it's because it was too much of a PR nightmare to dislodge all the homeless people living in the tunnels, [[spoiler: but it's more likely because of the Stalker]].

*BribeBackfire: Natasha and the film crew are kicked out of the station when they try to bribe a security guard. [[spoiler: He knows about the Stalker, and knows what will happen to anybody who gets into the tunnels.]]

*NothingIsScarier: You only see fleeting glimpses on the night-vision camera of what's been stalking the film crew.
