Example Indentation In Trope Lists "All tropes in a list should be at the same level of indentation, and in alphabetical order. See How to Write an Example. Subtropes should not be listed in sub-bullets beneath their parent tropes."

No, it's not crystal clear. If it's YMMV, then it doesn't belong in the example. The example shouldn't use this kind of political commentary anyway, it hits Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgment.

Comparison to the war on terror is justified, though YMMV *always* applies to Aesops! The imagery of a colonialist government subjugating a whole population, with the effect that most are forced to submit while a minority go crazy violent, seems crystal clear.

It doesn't even slightly resemble the War on Terror.

Start digging deeper and you have oppression and abuse perpetrated in the name of [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans making them better]]. From relatively minor atrocities like involuntary surgery and brainwashing on children, all the way up to annihilating entire colonies and covering it up to avoid public censure. We know from the series that the free market reigns, with everything from indebted slaves to corporations withholding vital medicines to terraforming hackjobs apparently performed by the lowest bidders...

From relatively minor atrocities like involuntary surgery and brainwashing on children, all the way up to annihilating entire colonies and covering it up to avoid public censure. ** That said, from what we see of it the Alliance leadership/oligarchy clearly still fears its public and goes to extremes to keep them docile, implying that they're not straightforwardly tyrannical, but simply controlling and self-interested. The Operative mentions that Mal has weakened their rule, which implies that the Alliance is still (ostensibly) a democracy that answers to its own people, and they are not happy.
