* AuthorAppeal: Sy gives Jake a toy from Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion at one point; Eva was Robin Williams' favorite anime series.

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: A number of fans of Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion like to point out Sy's and Jake's mispronunciations of the word "Evangelion" as "Ay-von-jelly-un." Sometimes with hilarious consequences. (Robin Williams apparently stuck this in, along with referring to the character in question as one of the heroes -- it is NOT -- to troll his fellow Eva fans.)

Seymour "Sy" Parrish works as a technician at a supermarket's one-hour photo developing clinic. He's clean-cut and quite ordinary to the point of boring, but not all is well in Sy's world. He slowly becomes obsessed with Yorkins, a seemingly perfect modern American family, and are one of his regular customers. Sy tries to interject himself into the Yorkin's lives which they subtly turn down. After learning a dark secret happening within the family, he is distraught and tries to do something about it, although in disturbingly stalker-like ways. Interspersed in the whole mess are more than a few really creepy moments and a very well built thriller climax.

This was done to reflect how Sy sees the three different environments; the heavenly fantasy he built up seeing the Yorkin's photographs in the store, the warm homey scenes contained therein, and the hell of his lonely existence.

** Justified because Jake is nine years old and Sy would only have heard the pronunciation from him. Even if Sy had binge-watched the series like he did with the Chopra book, he might have been confused or just didn't want to tell Jake he got it wrong. Also notable is that Robin Williams was a huge fan of the show, and the prop is actually from his own collection, so he definitely would have corrected it if he felt it should be.

Seymour "Sy" Parrish works in the photo center of a department store. Overall, a pretty boring dude. But, not all is well in Sy's world. He slowly becomes obsessed with the Yorkin family, and tries to interject himself into their lives, including a few scenes with Nina (the mom) and Jake (the kid). After learning William (the dad) is having an affair, he once again gets involved with the family's life. Interspersed in the whole mess are more than a few really creepy moments.

Released to positive reviews, this movie gave Williams a much-needed CareerResurrection and along with Film/Insomnia helped usher in the so-called "dark period" of Williams' career where his persona's (A man who wants love and validation from everyone around him.) disturbing subtext is brought to the forefront after spending the past few years making overly maudlin, TastesLikeDiabetes-infused movies. Despite digital photography making photo developing somewhat irrelevant, the movie is still incredibly effective as a PsychologicalThriller.
