Added DiffLines:

* LittleHeroBigWar: The film mostly focuses on panic and war nerves in both civilians and soldiers (including TriggerHappy gunners) right after Pearl Harbor, with the final act featuring a RagtagBunchOfMisfits (mostly volunteers rather than trained soldiers) making bumbling efforts to destroy the lone enemy submarine in the area. [[spoiler:They fail, but do divert it from accomplishing anything worthwhile with its own attack on the coast.]]

Spielberg, with the combined backing of ''two'' major studios (Creator/{{Universal}} and [[Creator/ColumbiaPictures Columbia]]), spared no expense in making this film. It has special effects rivaling those of "serious" UsefulNotes/WorldWarII epics, and the AllStarCast reads like a who's who of movie comedy in TheSeventies, all in the service of {{Slapstick}}. Unfortunately, it was a critical bomb and received disappointing box office numbers (though it wasn't the complete flop it's usually remembered as), and stands as the one misfire in Spielberg's otherwise-outstanding run of blockbusters between 1975 and 1982.

** Wally and Sitarski bump into each other at the café, at the Douglas' house and later at the USO dance.
