* AllThereInTheManual: The recently released script reveals a few details that weren't made explicit in the films:

** Laura's fascination with Nate Munson, although hinted at in the final film and confirmed by WordOfGod, is much more blatantly established in the script.

* DeathSeeker: Logan is feeling his age. His claws no longer fulling extend, his wounds don't heal as quickly, he has a limp, he carries an adamantium bullet.

* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: Logan tries to use this as his explanation for why he's not going to accompany Laura into Canada. Rather than softening the blow as he intended, it only hurts her more, and when he remarks that the people he cares about all die, she snipes back that she has nothing to worry about.

** Laura's "De nada." PlayedForLaughs, as Logan is very annoyed that she didn't say anything before.

** The modified crops Transigen made to kill mutants combines both the depowering of mutants after ''ComicBook/HouseOfM'' (in part since the events of ''ComicBook/OldManLogan'' had the villains rise up after ''ComicBook/CivilWar'') and the Legacy Virus (a stand-in for AIDS during the '90s comics).

** Logan quit being a hero in ''Comicbook/OldManLogan'' because a hypnosis attack against him made him think the X-Men were all villains and he killed them all. Here, a senile Xavier has degenerative disease-induced seizures, [[PowerIncontinence which causes him to telepathically attack everyone around him]]. The film implies that a prior episode accidentally killed several of the X-Men. Said mental attack in the comics was also done by [[Franchise/SpiderMan Mysterio]], who Fox obviously could not use in this movie.

* RebuiltPedestal: The X-23 kids meet their hero, only to learn he's a broken old man dying of poison thanks to his "upgrade". They even give him back his classic bear, only to be yelled at. Then he comes screaming through the forest to save them from Transigen, ''almost'' back at his best. He dies struggling to be the hero they deserve, and they give him the funeral he deserves.

** We get to see the damage Logan inflicts and receives. We get to see him struggling in a shitty hotel room, his body ''slowly'' pushing out bullets. We get t osee him drinking himself to death.

** SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Logan drives into a fence and the resullt is the car gets ssturck in the fence. Shortly thereafter, he dodges a train and the result is that he barely survives the train.

* DarkerAndEdgier: This is the darkest film of the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'' and the second film in the ''X-Men'' film series to be rated R after ''Film/{{Deadpool|2016}}''. A screenplay page that was revealed by James Mangold started like this: "Now might be a good time to talk about the 'fights' described in the 100 next or so pages. Basically, if you're on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying, [[TakeThat CG fuckathon]], [[WellThisIsNotThatTrope this ain't your movie]]." Mangold also described it as ''Film/LittleMissSunshine [[JustForFun/XMeetsY meets]] Film/{{Scarface 1983}}''. In fact, it is far more intense than ''Deadpool'' itself. To be clear, Logan walks into a trashed hotel room with the body of a woman who has been tortured to death, while trying to hide a tormented and dying Xavier and suffering the effects of aging himself.

But while Rice's vileness is no longer extreme, his ''one'' redeeming value -- compassion for his father -- is gone, as he dismisses his death like it was some embarrassing middle school prank.
