The movie begins with a terrified young woman wearing only a trenchcoat is running down a highway at night. She stops a car driven by private divorce detective Mike Hammer who gives her a ride. He discovers that the police are searching for her and that she escaped from an asylum. She tells him only her first name is Christine and if she don't make it to a bus stop to "Remember me". They suddenly get driven off a road and in a room somewhere while Mike is half unconscious Christine is tortured and killed. They're put in his car and rolled off a cliff. Mike survives and wakes up days later in the hospital. He becomes determined to find out who Christine really was and why she was killed.
