After unexpectedly losing the general election and failing in his bid to become the next Prime Minister of Sweden, Liberal Party leader David Holst [[UnfulfilledPurposeMisery doesn't know what to do with himself.]] With his standing within his own party on a downward slide and his wife and chief of staff, Fia, needling him to keep networking, he strikes up a friendship with Martin Kovacs, a high-ranking member of the now-incumbent Social Democrats. Their relationship soon develops into an affair, which comes as a surprise David not least because of their opposing political ideologies but also because until now he had believed himself to be straight.
