Karen Barclay's story about a killer doll resulted in her being taken away for "psychological evaluation". The 8-year-old Andy has been placed in the [[FosterKid Foster Care System]]. He is placed in the care of Phil and Joanne Simpson (CultClassic veterans Gerrit Graham and Creator/JennyAgutter). But Charles Lee Ray's doll host has been rebuilt and reanimated and he is still obsessed with the boy. He soon locates Andy and the incidents start again. Unfortunately the Simpsons suspect fostered teen Kyle (Christine Elise) as the culprit. Now Andy and Kyle have to face the killer with no outside help.

However, conversely it makes Mattson [[spoiler: an AssholeVictim when it reveals him to be [[YourCheatingHeart cheating on his wife with a woman named Gabriella]]]], something cut out in theatrical cut.

* CrapsaccharineWorld: Despite the bright (if somewhat eerie) look of the film, it's actually an unkind world that not even Andy is safe from other then Chucky (a toy company run by cold-hearted {{Corrupt Corporate Executive}}s including one SmugSnake [[YourCheatingHeart cheating on his wife]], an elementary school where it's implied {{Sadist Teacher}}s are authorized to inflict [[WouldHurtAChild physical and emotional child abuse]] on their students, and foster parents who, [[NotSoAboveItAll despite their appearances to be seemingly ideal-looking and what model families should look like]], [[SupernaturalProofFather naturally disbelieve that a killer doll is on the loose out to get a child]] and can be vindictively judgmental if a child is a HeroWithBadPublicity and can easily deduce kids can be murderers ranging from an ObstructiveBureaucrat {{Jerkass}} foster father to a mother who starts out as caring and kind towards the child, [[BewareOfTheNiceOnes but]] [[NotSoAboveItAll th]][[BitchInSheepsClothing en]] TookALevelInJerkass towards the kid [[spoiler: after seeing her husband dead and irrationally jumped to a conclusion that the child killed him somehow]] just because of his [[HeroWithBadPublicity prior reputation]]).
** Not to mentioned TooDumbToLive social workers and factory employees and a minor newspaper truck driver who [[JerkassHasAPoint understandably]] can be [[BerserkButton irked]] if getting run off the road for seeming no reason (except to prevent a killer doll to transfer his soul to a child). Plus, in contrast to the [[DissonantSerenity seemingly and visually family-friendly]] [[NotSoAboveItAll environment]], anyone besides Chucky can {{Sir Swears A Lot}}s (or go into an ClusterFBomb or inflict a PrecisionFStrike towards somebody, like Kyle or the truck driver when confronting Kyle), though not as much as Chucky, who swears the most.
* DarkerAndEdgier: In a way, despite having slightly more humor then the first film, it shows the death scenes to be uncomfortable to watch and Chucky's RasputinianDeath to be more BloodierAndGorier, plus the [[AwesomeMusic terrorizing and brooding orchestral music score]] that crosses between a 70's horror Music/BernardHerrmann, Marco Beltrami's ''Franchise/{{Scream}}'' (which the first film was released six years later [[OlderThanTheyThink after this film]]) and a DarkerAndEdgier Music/DannyElfman (in contrast to Joe Renzetti's UnintentionalPeriodPiece 80's electronic score of the first film) by [[RetroactiveRecognition then-unknown]] [[Film/SinCity Graeme]] [[Series/{{Gotham}} Revell]] (with help from a conductor who happened to be Elfman's frequent collaborator in his early years, the late great [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries Shirley]] [[Film/FinalDestination Walker]]) further adds up the intense, creepy and scary mood.

The second film does not feature Karen Barclay, though the character survived the previous film. But her story about a killer doll resulted in her being taken away for "psychological evaluation".

!!This film provides examples of:

* AdultFear: The way Chucky first approaches Andy has some ''serious'' shock.
* ArtificialLimbs: Chucky replaces his hand with a knife after tearing his old one off to escape.
* AssholeVictim: [[YourCheatingHeart Mattson]], [[SadistTeacher Miss Kettlewell]], Andy's {{Jerkass}} ObstructiveBureaucrat foster father Phil and Andy's TookALevelInJerkass foster mother Joanne.
* BigNo: Chucky gives out a very big "No!" when he finds out that it's too late to bodysurf into Andy.
* BittersweetEnding: At the end, [[spoiler:Chucky is dead yet again, but Andy and Kyle are left homeless after Chucky had basically killed off Andy and Kyle's foster family.]]
* BloodUpgrade: Chucky starts to take things more seriously when he sees that he's getting nosebleeds, indicating his time to possess Andy is running short.
* ChildHater:
** Chucky says "I hate kids" during the finale.
** Phil and Miss Kettlewell seem to be this.
* ConveyorBeltODoom: The climax involves some near misses with one in the Good Guys doll factory.
%%* CoolBigSis: Kyle.
* DeadpanSnarker: Kyle:
--> '''Chucky:''' ''Floor'' it!
--> '''Kyle:''' Get real. This is a station wagon.
%%* EightiesHair: Grace Poole.
* EyeScream:
** It opens with a close up of Chucky's eye being removed. In extended footage from the TV version, Chucky's eye falls into a vat of plastic and is built into a new doll.
** Towards the end, a security guard falls onto the conveyer line where the dolls' eyes are put in.
* IWasJustJoking: At the climax, when Chucky is strapped to a ConveyorBeltOfDoom, he calls out to Andy, "I was only playin'!"
* IdiotBall: Kyle painfully drops a gate onto Chucky's now flesh and blood hand, trapping him temporarily. They don't take the chance to kill him. They don't even take away his knife. They run away. What the hell.
* NoOSHACompliance: The climax in the toy factory is a safety nightmare. The factory has machines which can maim, mangle, and kill and which don't seem to have any emergency shutoffs, the entire place is staffed at night by ''one'' guy, the layout seems to feature no paths between the machines (Andy and Kyle have to crawl ''through'' some of them, and even Chucky needs a vent at one point to get around), and there are pipes dripping molten plastic.
%%* SadistTeacher: Mrs. Kettlewell.
* UndersideRide: Chucky does this with a school bus.
* TooDumbToLive: Mattson, Joanne, the Play Pals factory workers and Grace Poole.
* TraumaCongaLine: Chucky undergoes a [[AssholeVictim very satisfying]] one at the end.
* VerbThis: After Tommy the Good Guys doll says that he likes to be hugged, Chucky says "Hug this!", before bashing his face in.
* VillainousBreakdown: Chucky goes complete rage mode when [[spoiler: he fails to transfer his soul into Andy's body.]]
* WhoNeedsTheirWholeBody: Chucky loses his legs but doesn't stop trying to kill Andy and Kyle.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: When Chucky discovers that it's too late to use Andy as his new SoulJar, he decides to kill him instead.
* YourHeadAsplode: This is how Chucky is done in.
