* ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'':
** Before notes from a Japanese art book confirmed [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3 Ado]] and [[VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards Adeleine]] to be the same person, fans had a habit of drawing them as identical twin sisters. Western fandom used to consider the pair HalfIdenticalTwins before Ado's gender was confirmed.
** One Japanese guidebook for ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2'' claimed [[Characters/KirbyDarkMatter Dark Matter]] was a TorturedMonster that attacked Popstar because it was jealous of all the "happiness" there. Just about every fan accepts this as official canon, [[BeamMeUpScotty but they always]] {{flanderiz|ation}}e [[BeamMeUpScotty it into applying to]] Zero/0[[superscript:2]] alone, despite [[TheManBehindTheMan Zero]] not being introduced until [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3 the sequel]] (the TearsOfBlood likely have something to do with it).
** Most Japanese fans depict [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2 Dark Matter Blade]] as having floating hands like [[VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand Magolor]] (except with fingers).
** People really seem to like the idea that Meta Knight is like a [[ParentalSubstitute father figure]] to Kirby, to the point where the Japanese have their own term for the whole headcanon[[note]]パパナイト, which literally translates to "Papa Knight"[[/note]]. This stems from his portrayal in [[Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa the anime]], where he's more protective and supportive towards Kirby (though still largely enigmatic).
** Many fans believe that Meta Knight's mask contains a voice changer/amplifier like [[Franchise/StarWars Darth Vader]], to provide his trademark baritone, and that his "real" voice would sound more like Kirby's (or at least not nearly as deep).
** Did [[VideoGame/KirbySuperStar Bandana]] [[VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand Waddle]] [[VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe Dee]] appear in ''VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards'', minus the blue bandana and spear? Some fans think so. Adeleine's trailer for ''VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies'' would then feature Bandana Waddle Dee in the place of his ''64'' counterpart, which was taken as further evidence by proponents of this idea.
** Many fans agree that [[VideoGame/KirbyPlanetRobobot Susie]], [[VideoGame/KirbyPlanetRobobot Haltmann]], [[VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies the Three Mage-Sisters]], and [[VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies Hyness]] are all from Halcandra like Magolor is.
** There's a Japanese fan comic on Tumblr ([[https://shinytranslations.tumblr.com/post/141980444574 translated here]]), detailing [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3 Gooey's]] exile from the Dark Matter swarm and the start of his friendship with Kirby, that is accepted by just about everyone who reads it as Gooey's "official" backstory.
** "Gamble" being the name of the galaxy that contains Popstar and its neighboring planets. This is derived from Gamble Galaxy, the final world of ''VideoGame/KirbySqueakSquad''.

** ''F-Zero'' is subjected to copious amounts of fanon, due in part to the (now defunct) [[WordOfDante North American website]] for ''F-Zero X'', in which it included many character elements that would later be adopted by fans (the big one being Douglas Jay Falcon as Captain Falcon's name) several of these elements were roundly {{Jossed}} when ''F-Zero GX'' came out several years later and there was a more unified translation. But while it could be considered fanon in the basic sense of the word, a lot of the NA ''F-Zero X'' information is still treated like official canon despite its dubious source.
** And while ''GP Legend'' is considered an AlternateContinuity series, a popular piece of fanon is that anime-only Lisa Brilliant (the wife of Samurai Goroh) is the mother of game-only Dai Goroh (Samurai Goroh's son, making his debut in ''F-Zero GX/AX'').

* ''{{Fanon/Persona}}''

* ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'':
** While the idea of there being a canon {{Love Interest|s}} to the games' respective main characters is [[ShipToShipCombat a heavily debated topic]] (to the point that even arguing in favor of the games having {{Implied Love Interest}}s is controversial), a common belief among many fans is that whoever represents the [[TarotMotifs Lovers Arcana]] is the canon love interest. That said, this line of thought is more prevalent with [[VideoGame/Persona4 Rise Kujikawa]] than the likes of [[VideoGame/Persona2 Lisa Silverman]], [[VideoGame/Persona3 Yukari Takeba]], and [[VideoGame/Persona5 Ann Takamaki]].
** ''VideoGame/Persona3'':
*** Fan works tend to portray [[PlayerCharacter Makoto Yuki and Kotone Shiomi]] as fraternal twins, usually in [[ThirdOptionAdaptation Third-Option Adaptations]] that portray them both as the leader of S.E.E.S. Works that don't involve the two still tend to portray them like this, with the usual explanation being that one of them died in the car accident that killed their parents. Even with Kotone's surprise appearance in ''VideoGame/PersonaQ2NewCinemaLabyrinth'' heavily implying that Makoto and her are actually [[AlternateSelf the same person]], this idea still has a lot of staying power within the fanbase.
*** In a similar vein to the Lovers Arcana representatives being interpreted as the canon LoveInterests, many fans go by the belief that Akihiko is Kotone's canon love interest. This largely has to do with the fact that Akihiko is the one who takes Yukari's place during the love hotel sequence when playing as Kotone, as well as just due to general process of elimination regarding the romanceable characters in Kotone's route (Ken is too young, Shinjiro [[spoiler:dies or ends up in a coma]], and Ryoji [[spoiler:becomes the [[BigBad Nyx Avatar]]]]).
*** It's commonly believed that the soundtrack for the game exists in-universe and [[DiegeticSoundtrackUsage is being played over the protagonist's headphones throughout the game]]. The opening cutscene of ''[[UpdatedRerelease FES]]'' having "Burn My Dread -Last Battle-" play though protagonist's headphones helps support this idea.
*** Thanks to ''Persona Q2'', many fans of Kotone sometimes prefer to separate her from S.E.E.S. entirely and instead portray her as a member of [[VideoGame/Persona5 the Phantom Thieves]], feeling that her dynamic with that group works a lot better than her dynamic with S.E.E.S. This, of course, ignores the fact that [[spoiler:her HeroicSacrifice at the end of ''P3'' makes it impossible for them to interact under normal circumstances]], never mind that Kotone's initial inability to bond with the S.E.E.S. members in ''Q2'' is very much PlayedForDrama ''because'' they're [[AlternateSelf not]] the people she knows and connected with.
** ''VideoGame/Persona4'':
*** The "canon" personality of [[PlayerCharacter Yu Narukami]] was generally up for debate by the fandom, with many of these perceived traits being logical extensions of the game's possible dialogue options, with the most common being that he's a BadassBookworm, a DeadpanSnarker, a NiceGuy, and the OnlySaneMan. Ultimately, future works, such as [[Anime/Persona4TheAnimation the anime adaptation]], would end up confirming many of these traits as part of Yu's canon personality.
*** There are exactly two moments when Naoto's bust is brought into question; one vague hospital scene where she's embarrassed to have her measurements read, and again during the HotSpringsEpisode. Fanon decided to take this ball and run with it straight outta the stadium, and the grand bulk of her fan art depicts her with downright tremendous assets, easily surpassing D-cups. Meanwhile in {{canon}}, the hot springs character cut-out and the anime of the game show only a slight elevation, nothing more than a modest B-cup. However, the animated cutscene of the hot springs scene added in ''[[UpdatedRerelease Golden]]'' would end up giving her a more concrete size, portraying her as having large C-cups.
** ''VideoGame/Persona5'':
*** [[PlayerCharacter Joker]]'s parents tend to get characterized as neglectful HateSink characters similar to the minor Mementos targets, considering they seemingly believed the very flimsy accusation laid against him, dumped him off on a guy whose cafe is mildly frequented by a friend of theirs, and apparently never so much as called or wrote him. People who subscribe to this belief also tend to believe in the idea that Joker will decide to permanently move to Tokyo after the events of the game. Others tend to write them to be much more sympathetic, in that they obviously didn't believe the accusations against the protagonist, but were powerless to stop his probation from happening, and were forced to send him away. Alongside this, many portray them as a StrugglingSingleMother and a DisappearedDad or as going through a divorce in order to explain why Joker's home life is seemingly rocky. The ones who write them as the latter tend to point out that we don't exactly ''see'' every single aspect of Joker's life.
*** Alternatively to the above, many more comedic fan works portray VideoGame/{{Bayonetta}} as Joker's mother, due to their similar appearances and darkness-based powers.
*** Because Joker is stated to be from the countryside, a lot of fan works specifically portray him as being from [[VideoGame/Persona4 Inaba]].
*** A theory originating from after the game's release but before its localization into English was that Joker was from [[VideoGame/Persona2 Sumaru City]].
*** Largely because of a lack of elaboration, many fans believe Joker suffers from PTSD from his [[ColdBloodedTorture brutal interrogation]] by the police. However, others seem to believe that [[spoiler:because Joker's capture was AllAccordingToPlan, he was mentally prepared to face this]]. Similarly, because the physical injuries Joker received from the interrogation are never elaborated on, many fan works tend to portray them as realistically severe. It's also often believed that Joker would be taken to Takemi to be treated for them, as she would be the only medical professional [[SecretKeeper in the loop of Joker's secret]], [[spoiler:as well as being one of the few people aware that Joker is alive]].
*** It is popular to theorize that Joker gets into politics, after his time with the Phantom Thieves as well as [[spoiler:Shido's corruption]] made him want to change society, with many believing he would be mentored by Toranosuke. This is especially popular among Joker/Makoto fans, due to Makoto's Confidant ending with [[spoiler:her resolving to become a police commissioner]].
*** Alternatively to the above, many also believe that Joker would take over Leblanc after Sojiro retires, or at least get involved in the restaurant business, largely due to Sojiro teaching him how to cook and create coffee blends during the events of the game. (It helps that ''VideoGame/Persona5Strikers'', set one year later, has Joker serving as the TeamChef and picking up culinary recipes as the group travels across Japan, with Futaba commenting that the Master Curry devised and cooked by Joker during their trip is outright superior to Sojiro's original recipe.) This sometimes is further expanded to mesh with the Joker/Haru ship, as Haru's Confidant sees her getting interested in coffee production, growing her own beans, and eventually [[spoiler:making plans to open a chain of family-friendly cafés much like her grandfather did]].
*** Another popular idea for Joker's future occupation is to have him go into psychology, following in the footsteps of Maruki [[spoiler:but managing to succeed where he failed]], and eventually becoming a therapist or counselor. This idea is particularly popular among Joker/Akechi and Joker/Kasumi fans.
*** Due to their PowerTrio dynamic, many fans portray Kasumi as a ShipperOnDeck for Joker/Akechi, and then there are many who portray them as a OneTrueThreesome. Maruki is also often portrayed as a wanting to see the two together, [[spoiler:given that he had resurrected Akechi due to Joker's wish, and states that he wants the two to be able to spend more time together]].
*** Theories have been starting up about [[spoiler:Akechi and Futaba possibly being [[LongLostRelative paternal half-siblings]], since absolutely nothing is known about the latter's biological father, and Shido is shown to have been highly fixated on Wakaba's cognitive psience research. The release of the [[AllThereInTheManual Maniax book]] spurred the theory further, as it reveals that Akechi has type ABNegative blood, the same blood type as Futaba's (which was revealed in the official art book beforehand); this becomes more significant knowing that 99% of the Japanese population is RH+]]. Tying into this theory many believe that [[spoiler:Akechi's mother was involved in Wakaba's cognitive psience research, though ''[[UpdatedRerelease Royal]]'' would {{Joss|ed}} that theory with the reveal that [[SonOfAWhore Akechi's mother was a prostitute who got knocked up by Shido]]]].
*** Similarly, many fan works portray Akechi as being in some way related to [[VideoGame/Persona3 Ken]], due to their similar appearances and having some notably similar traits. It helps that Ken's father is completely unknown, allowing works that portray them as brothers to have [[spoiler:Shido fill the role]].
*** Many people believe that Wakaba may have been involved with [[VideoGame/Persona1 SEBEC]] or the [[VideoGame/Persona3 Kirijo Group]], due to the two companies having dabbled in cognitive psience as well.
*** While Hifumi is shown to be overall reserved in personality, she has some {{Chuunibyou}} tendencies when it comes to Shogi. Fans like to exaggerate this trait and portray her as a full-blown {{Otaku}}.
*** Because Sae takes the reveal that Makoto is a member of the Phantom Thieves rather badly, fans have taken to portraying her as a [[KnightTemplarBigBrother Knight Templar Big Sister]], [[MySisterIsOffLimits especially when it involves the popular Joker/Makoto ship]]. This became even more popular when the [[AllThereInTheManual fan databook]] revealed that Sae practices kickboxing as a hobby.
*** In spite of being Ann's best friend and playing a major role in her backstory and CharacterDevelopment, Shiho receives very little actual characterization in canon outside of just being a general [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]]. As a result, many fan works featuring her tend to characterize her more, a notable example being the tendency to portray her as TheGadfly, in part due to Ann's mention of [[BrutalHonesty how their first conversation went down]].
*** Haru is shown in-game to take enjoyment in killing Shadows, which led the fandom to collectively portray her as a SoftSpokenSadist. This is something that would end up becoming AscendedFanon as per future works like ''[[VideoGame/Persona5DancingInStarlight Dancing in Starlight]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/Persona5Strikers Strikers]]''. Also of note, even fans who don't ship her with Joker tend to portray her as having a crush on him, in part because of how her Confidant progresses.
*** Due to Kaneshiro's status as a FillerVillain with no real connection to any of the Phantom Thieves, many fan works like to portray him as being responsible to the death of Makoto's father, making the conflict against him seem more personal.
*** Because Akechi is the only Phantom Thief whose school life isn't elaborated on, many fan works like to depict him as going to Yusuke's school, Kosei. Of course, this is when they don't just create an entirely new school to depict him in.
*** Many fans like to portray the idea that the game's soundtrack exists in-universe. This idea is supported by TheStinger of the game's vanilla ending having "Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There" play over the radio, and "No More What Ifs" being performed by an actual singer in the jazz club.
*** A part of the fandom believes that Ann's quarter-white ancestry is specifically Irish-American, due to the four-leaf clover imagery on her outfit. Another part believes she's instead of Finnish descent, due to Ann mentioning living in Finland for a time in her Rank 2 Confidant as well as Takamaki being an actual Finnish surname.
*** The game taking place in the year 2016. Originally, this ''was'' meant to be the case, in line with how ''P3'' and ''P4'' respectively [[NextSundayAD released in 2006 and 2008 but are set in 2009 and 2011]], only for ''Persona 5'' to be beset by multiple delays and not hit shelves until 2016 -- [[ScheduleSlip two years after its intended release date]]. As such, with the game's calendar reading "[[YearX 20XX]]" despite being identical to the 2016 calendar and every other game in the series [[VideoGameLongRunners so far]] being attributed a specific calendar year, many fans take this as confirmation that ''P5'' is indeed set in 2016, especially for the sake of better establishing continuity during crossovers with earlier titles. (Or ''Q2'', as [[spoiler:Hikari is revealed to be from the same general time period as the Phantom Thieves, unlike the casts of the third and fourth games]].) Other fans do adhere to the nonspecific year given in-game, however.

* While the protagonists of ''VideoGame/CarnEvil'' were never given names, fans tend to call Player 1 Jacob and Player 2 Lisa. It seems that this came about when someone added the two names to Wikipedia in 2007, and the fandom ran with it. (The editor didn't even call Lisa Player 2; they gave the name to the innocent bystander, whose canon name is Betty.) In fan art, Jacob is depicted with a red jacket, a green t-shirt with blue jeans and carries a flashlight (which is close to how the protagonist appears in the very brief times we see him), while Lisa wears a blue crop-top jacket, jeans and a purple-and-white hat.

* ''VideoGame/ModernWarfare2'': A disproportionately high number of fans seem to believe that "Raptor," the VIP that you protect in the mission "Wolverines!", is the President of the United States--if only because [[RuleOfCool it makes it seem so much more badass when you save his life]]. In the actual game, his identity and position in the government are never revealed and there are lots of people who would qualify for his level of protection. About the only evidence supporting the theory is that his callsign, "Raptor," alludes to a large bird of prey; the POTUS' traditional Secret Service callsign is "Eagle," another large bird of prey.

** Among the ''Mortal Kombat'' fandom, while ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatShaolinMonks Shaolin Monks]]'' is regarded as a very good spin-off, [[BroadStrokes the sheer amount of liberties taken in regards to the plot]] (and ''several'' [[{{Retcon}} contradictions]] to previous continuity, which did ''[[BrokenBase not]]'' go over well with the fans) made it hard for many to believe that the game (assumed to be a retelling of the [[VideoGame/MortalKombat1992 first]] and [[VideoGame/MortalKombatII second]] installments) is canon. However, a somewhat prevalent fan theory has popped up since then, claiming ''Shaolin Monks'' might exist in the same timeline as ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatVsDCUniverse MK vs. DC Universe]]'' (itself supposedly set between ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombat3 3]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombat4 4]]''), explaining all of the odd changes in plot developments and thus creating [[AlternateContinuity another reality]] (the original canon being the first, [[VideoGame/MortalKombat9 the 2011 reboot]] and [[VideoGame/MortalKombatX its]] [[VideoGame/MortalKombat11 sequels]] being another, and these two games comprising the third). ** Another case of FanonWelding is the idea that ''VideoGame/InjusticeGodsAmongUs'' is a StealthSequel to ''VideoGame/MortalKombatVsDCUniverse''. With the heroes of the "Original" DCU meeting the Mortal Kombat characters before crossing over to the Injustice Universe. Though it may also be the other way around. Some of Raiden and Sub-Zero's Intro dialogues in ''VideoGame/Injustice2'' hint at this, sometimes their opponents remember them and other times they do not. Though an Intro Dialogue in ''VideoGame/MortalKombat11'' between Raiden and Sub-Zero implies that their guest appearance [[ItWasAllADream was just a vivid dream]]. Joker being recognized by other Kombatants in the Netherrealm Timeline makes it very clear that it's all just [[ContinuityNod fanservicey references]]. Though since these games deal with TheMultiverse and TimeTravel respectively, one can still hold on to this fan theory.

*** Alternatively to the above, many also believe that Joker would take over Leblanc after Sojiro retires, or at least get involved in the restaurant business, largely due to Sojiro teaching him how to cook and create coffee blends during the events of the game (it helps that ''VideoGame/Persona5Strikers'', set one year later, has Joker serving as the TeamChef and picking up culinary recipes as the group travels across Japan, with Futaba commenting that the Master Curry devised and cooked by Joker during their trip is outright superior to Sojiro's original recipe). This sometimes is further expanded to mesh with the Joker/Haru ship, as Haru's Confidant sees her getting interested in coffee production, growing her own beans, and eventually [[spoiler:making plans to open a chain of family-friendly cafés much like her grandfather did]].
