* Comments: An AU where Iruka Umino reveals Danzo's plans a few years before the series start, and as a result is not around to support Naruto before he becomes a genin- also the Uchiha clan survives, Itachi doesn't go rogue, and the Third Hokage doesn't have the same degree of power he had in canon. This results in a role reversal AU where Sasuke is the bright optimistic one looking for acknowledgment and Naruto is the brooding angry kid who doesn't want to get close to people. Also, Sakura is not a fangirl and Ino is awesome. The characterisation - especially of Naruto - is phenomenal, and the character relationships will have you binge-reading the entire thing. There's plenty of good world-building and interesting politics as well- it's clearly not a simple retelling of the canon.

* Comments: A really warm, funny rewrite of the series where the bonds between team 7 are much stronger because Sasuke actually interacts with his team mates. Nobody becomes overpowered, although Sakura catches up to the boys much earlier than in canon. The writing style is really distinctive and funny, and the AU and side characters are really well fleshed out. It is Naruto/Sasuke, but it is a sloooow burn, 53 chapters in and it's still mostly implied- the real star of the show is the importance and deapth of the family and platonic relationships, and I am in love with the Ino-Gaara friendship. It's wonderfull from start to finnish, so much character development, so much worldbuilding, what's not to love?

This results in a role reversal AU where Sasuke is the bright optemistic one looking for acknowledgement and Naruto is the brooding angry kid who doesn't want to get close to people. Also Sakura is not a fangirl and Ino is awesome. The characterisation- especially of Naruto- is phenomenal, an the character relationships will have you binge reading the entire thing. There's plenty of good world building and interesting politics as well- it's clearly not a simple retelling of the canon.

The writting itself is top notch, some of the best I've seen in fanfic and the character arcs are unfolding at a good pace, striking a good balence between enough to keep you interested and few enough that each thing gets properly played out. It's a fairly dark fic, and trigger warnings apply for self-harm, addiction, and torture, but the topics are handled in ways that feel realistic and it's balanced out by the increadibly heartwarming, if precarious, bond between team 7. A really outstanding fic all round, frankly.
