* AbhorrentAdmirer: [[HeadTurningBeauty Orihime]] [[DudeMagnet is very often on the recieving end of this]]. Normally, she's ObliviousToLove or a CluelessDudeMagnet, but when she does notice the affections of rather...aggressively obnoxious men, she is very...put off. For instance, [[DanceOfRomance during the dance]], when some rich guys were practically hitting on her, Ed noticed how uncomfortable she seemed, [[StepfordSmiler despite her smile]], and she described the experience, in no uncertain terms, as very unpleasant because they didn't see her as a person, but as a potential [[TrophyWife Trophy Wife]].
* AboveTheInfluence: [[MonsterOfTheWeek Amelia]], in order to [[BreakThemByTalking control and manipulate]] [[BadassInDistress Edward]], offers him the opportunity to gain "[[LoveInterest Orihime's]] love". When [[HopelessSuitor Ed]] processes what she means by "giving him Orihime's love for a night", [[BerserkButton he understandably becomes very, very ENRAGED]] [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil when he figures out what she's implying]].
* AbsurdPhobia: [[StepfordSmiler Orihime]] has a fear of the color white. This is tragically PlayedForHorror. Not only because of what [[MindRape triggered her phobia in the first place]], but because it is so ''severe'', it triggers her TraumaButton and has caused her to [[StressVomit throw up]] and [[HeroicBSOD suffer from mental breakdowns twice]].
* AbusiveParents: Orihime outright laments to Ed and Al that her parents were very abusive people, and that [[PromotionToParent her brother ran away and took her with him]] when she was three [[BigBrotherInstinct in order to protect her from them]].
** [[MadScientist Shou Tucker]] used his only daughter, Nina, as nothing more than a lab rat for [[ItsAllAboutMe his personal gain]].
** ParentalAbandonment: [[CreepyChild Zero's]] parents sold him to a MadScientist because [[TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior he started developing strange powers that weren't alchemy]].
* AccidentalHandHold: Happens to [[WillTheyOrWontThey Edward and Orihime]] in [[spoiler: [[ShipTease Chapter 39]]]]. [[HeldGaze It ends just as well as]] [[FirstKiss you might expect]].
* AccidentalPervert: Thanks to Orihime's CrashIntoHello, she and Ed end up in a very compromising position and the first thing [[MarshmallowHell Ed sees is her boobs pressed against his face]]. This, of course, causes Ed to blush awkwardly. In a subversion of this trope, Orihime doesn't notice at all. Of course, being [[CloudCuckooLander who she is]]...
* ActualPacifist: Orihime is so gentle at her core that she would never willingly do harm to another person. [[BewareTheNiceOnes But that doesn't make her a pushover]], and [[AttackReflector she has no problems defending herself if need be]].

* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Despite being a [[PluckyGirl happy]] [[GenkiGirl go]] [[CloudCuckooLander lucky]] individual, [[StepfordSmiler Orihime's]] [[BreakTheCutie experiences]] in [[DamselInDistress Hueco Mundo]] still haunts her. She is a lot more [[GuiltComplex guilt ridden]] and has [[HeroicSelfDeprecation very low self esteem]] about herself compared to her [[Manga/{{Bleach}} canon counterpart]]. {{Justified|Trope}} as this story takes place in the midst of the TimeSkip of ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'', so she never had the chance to fully recover from her trauma.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Lust is as evil and manipulative as she is in [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist canon]], but in this story, she has some of her characterization from the [[Anime/FullmetalAlchemist 2003 version]] as she wants to understand the concept of what being "[[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman human]]" means, and [[PetTheDog she adopts an orphaned child]].
* AdultFear: Imagine being LockedOutOfTheLoop while one of your friends are battling [[InvisibleToNormals monsters you can't see]]. Gets even worse when said friend ends up in a ''hospital'', and ''still'' doesn't tell you why.
* AdventureTowns: This is bound to happen with all the traveling Edward, Alphonse, and Orihime do.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: [[CannotSpitItOut Edward]] has grown a fondness of tenderly rubbing [[LoveInterest Orihime's]] head.
* AgentScully: Edward, and, to a lesser extent, Al seem really steadfast in the believe that everything in the world has a scentific and logical explanation behind them. Even when faced with the possibility that [[TheMasquerade ghost and spirits may be real]], they refuse to "[[InvisibleToNormals believe in anything they can't see]]", and chalk it down to some weird, unknown form of alchemy. This is possibly a huge part of the reason why Orihime keeps them [[LockedOutOfTheLoop Locked Out of the Loop]]. That and her believe that they want to live [[IJustWantToBeNormal normal, ordinary life]] after [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong they complete their goal]].
* AgeLift: [[TheCutie Nina]] is seven in the story while she was four in the [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist original manga]].
* AllLovingHeroine: Orihime, definitely. [[PluckyGirl Orihime]] is an [[TheHeart incredibly kind, selfless, compassionate, and forgiving person]]. So much so that she even tries to [[spoiler: [[BefriendingTheEnemy befriend Scar]]]], even after he almost killed her during their first encounter. [[ChronicHeroSyndrome She would go to any lengths to help anyone in need]]. This is the main reason why [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Ed]] and [[FallenHero Reo]] have [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan fallen in love with her]], and Riku has implied to have some attraction to her if his statement of "now I see why my brother [Reo] fell in love with you [Orihime]" is anything to go by.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: [[HopelessSuitor Edward]] once he realizes [[spoiler: [[LoveInterst Orihime]] is in love with Ichigo]]. [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend Not that he would admit he has feelings for her anyway]].
* AllTheOtherReindeer: Orihime tearfully admits to Edward that she used to always hate her [[ImplausibleHairColor auburn hair]] because of the [[KidsAreCruel constant bullying]] she endured in her childhood because of it. What does he say? [[spoiler: [[ShipTease Comments that he likes her hair]]]].
* AlmostKiss: [[spoiler: [[ShipTease Edward and Orihime come so very close to kissing]] when Orihime trips and falls on Ed, leaving them in a very compromising position. They both end up just [[HeldGaze staring deeply into each other's eyes, completely mesmerized]] with [[LuminescentBlush bright red blushes on their faces]]. Ed becomes increasingly panicked and flustered when he sees that Orihime's face is leaning closer to his, only for it to be a false alarm when [[SignatureScent she was simply smelling his scent]], comparing it to [[YouRemindMeOfX Ichigo's]]. [[IDidntMeanToTurnYouOn That still doesn't stop his heart from beating a million miles a minute]]]].
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Eria's appearance is described as being exactly like Orihime's in every way, and given that Orihime is considered the WorldsMostBeautifulWoman... Yeah... She's even mistaken for Orihime's [[IdenticalStranger twin sister]] by some characters who don't know her or [[spoiler: [[SoulFragment her origins]]]]. The only things distinguishing her from the latter is her hair and eye color (Eria having black hair instead of auburn and brown eyes instead of gray) and [[IceQueen her personality]].
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Edward [[GreenEyedMonster feels]] this way towards Ichigo, Orihime's FirstLove, feeling that he always to compete with him for Orihime's affections.
* AmbiguousEnding: Two minor plots with the two [[CuteGhostGirl ghost girls]] was deliberately left vague and unclear.
** The first one is heavily implied to be a [[DiedHappilyEverAfter good ending]].
** The second one, [[DownerEnding not so]] [[KilledOffScreen much]]...
* AndYourLittleDogToo: [[spoiler: Junko]] threatens Orihime with the lives of Edward and Alphonse if she does not abide by her demands. [[BewareTheNiceOnes Let's just say that Orihime does not take this well]].
* AngerBornOfWorry: Edward very often gets angry whenever Orihime goes off alone and doesn't tell him. This mixed in with a AdultFear makes it very understandable on why he feels this way.
* AngstWhatAngst: The nonchalant, accepting, and brief way Orihime explains [[DarkAndTroubledPast her childhood]] to Edward and Alphonse.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Edward does this in [[spoiler: Chapter 41]]. Not exactly towards Orihime, but towards a [[ManipulativeBitch manipulative]] [[MonsterOfTheWeek villainess]] about his feelings for [[LoveInterest Orihime]] and the LoveTriangle. It's more like an Anguished Declaration of [[GreenEyedEpiphany Jealousy]] and [[DeclarationOfProtection Protection]].
* AnimalMotif: [[CloudCuckooLander Orihime]] often compares [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Edward]] to a dog. He's fierce, loyal, protective of his loved ones, and he has a good heart. Not to mention, his dorky charm is greatly amusing to her. She once comments she likens his [[HairTriggerTemper angry rants]] to a dog barking. Fittingly, considering he's a State Alchemist, and, therefore, a [[IronicEcho dog of the military]].
* AnimatedArmor: Al is just a soul bonded to a suit of armor, but don't you ''dare'' imply he isn't human, especially in front of [[BigBrotherInstinct Ed]].
* AnythingThatMoves: Considering that Morgan wouldn't mind having [[spoiler: [[{{Squick}} sex with Orihime's corpse]]]], he's definitely this.
* ArcWords: [[TheFourLoves "Feelings are connected."]]
* ArcVillain: The [[spoiler: [[OurSoulsAreDifferent Mod]] [[ArtificialHuman Souls]]]]. [[BloodKnight Ritsuko]], Morgan, and [[EmotionlessGirl Kyuko]].
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Hughes hits Orihime with this when he questions her motive for keeping Ed and Al LockedOutOfTheLoop of all the [[spoiler: [[TheMasquerade Hollow]]]] business. [[spoiler: Is she doing it because of some supernatural law that forbids [[InvisibleToNormals ordinary humans]] from knowing the existence of [[TheHeartless Hollows]]? Or is she doing it out of some ''misguided'' attempt not to burden them of what she ''perceives'' to be ''her'' problem to deal with]]?
* ArmorPiercingSlap:
** Ed, an intellectual child prodigy of alchemy and a master in martial arts, always gets beaten down by Winry and her mighty [[WrenchWhack wrench]].
** [[ActualPacifist Orihime]] delivers a powerful slap to Edward that puts him in a temporary daze. This is somewhat [[SubvertedTrope subverted]]. Orihime slapped him by pure accident, and not in anger or disappointment, due an immense amount of embarrassment, and she had beaten Ed ''and'' Al in hand to hand combat before (offscreen).
* AscendedExtra: Since [[spoiler: Nina]] survived her [[spoiler: chimera transmutation]], she gets to have more screen time than in the original anime. [[spoiler: She becomes part of the supporting cast]].
* TheAtoner: Several characters.
** Most of the characters who participated in the Ishavalan War.
** Ed and Al after their [[GoneHorriblyWrong failed Human Transmutation]].
** Even [[StepfordSmiler Orihime]], who curses herself for being such a DamselInDistress in the past that [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone it cost Ichigo his powers]]. She later vows to never be that weak and pathetic again. [[DeconstructedTrope Although, this shown as somewhat of bad thing]] as [[ItsAllMyFault her guilt]] makes her rather reluctant to ask for or seek out help, and pushes her into making sure that Ed and Al stay LockedOutOfTheLoop of the [[TheMasquerade supernatural world]].
* AttentionDeficitOhShiny: [[CloudCuckooLander Orihime]] has shades of this, which annoys [[DeadpanSnarker Ed]] in the beginning.

** Orihime shows ''dangerous'' signs of being this, if her first confrontation with [[SerialKiller Scar]] is anything to go by. She might not be able to tear you down ''[[ActualPacifist physically]]'', but she sure as hell can tear a person down ''[[BreakThemByTalking psychologically]]''. Al once innerly remarks how ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes scary]]'' this is. Given that this story takes place about [[TimeSkip half a year]] after [[DamselInDistress her rescue from Hueco Mundo]], [[FridgeHorror did she take a cue or two from]] [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Aizen]]?
*** This hidden shrewdness is best shown through [[BitchInSheepsClothing Eria]], her ShadowArchetype.
* BadassTeacher: Izumi.
* BarrierWarrior: Orihime's Shun Shun Rikka with a dose of HealingHands and {{Reality Warp|er}}ing.
* BeautifulDreamer: In [[spoiler: Chapter 37]], Edward can't help, but to remark in a inner monologue how beautiful and adorable [[LoveInterest Orihime]] looks while she sleeps. Of course, [[ShipperOnDeck Al]] finds it amusing, much to Ed's [[LuminescentBlush chagrin]].
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: It's subtle, but part of the reason why [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Edward]] starts to develop feelings for [[AllLovingHeroine Orihime]] is due to her [[NiceGirl unflinching kindness and unwavering generosity]]. She's also one of the first few people he meets who is always [[TheHeart genuinely kind]] [[EquivalentExchange without expecting for anything in return]]. Since ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' is a world run by the Laws of EquivalentExchange, this is a pretty big deal for Ed, [[TheCynic who is usually always expecting the worst from people or for them to have some sort of ulterior motive]]. This leads to Edward becoming [[BodyguardCrush increasingly protective]] of [[ObliviousToLove Orihime]] when he feels that someone is trying to take advantage of her kindness, or when [[GreenEyedMonster men try to get too close to her]]. [[spoiler: Chapter 15, which contains Orihime's [[RescueRomance rescue]] attempt and [[CannotSpitItOut Ed's]] subsequent DeclarationOfProtection, is the catalyst that starts their [[UnresolvedSexualTension relationship]]]].
** This is one of the reasons why [[SmittenTeenageGirl Orihime]] admires [[SingleTargetSexuality Ichigo]] so much is because he saved and retrieved [[TragicKeepsake her precious hairpins]] from a [[BullyHunter few bullies]]. [[HiddenHeartOfGold She got her first glimpse of how truly kind he actually is]]. [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan And is this continuous kindness that makes her fall in love with him]].
* BefriendingTheEnemy: [[spoiler: Chapter 22]]. [[spoiler: [[AllLovingHeroine Orihime]]]] attempts this with [[spoiler: [[AntiVillain Scar]]]] in hopes to take his mind of {{Revenge}}. [[spoiler: It doesn't work, but does leave him to contemplate his actions]].
* BeingGoodSucks: [[ChronicHeroSyndrome Orihime]], of all people, refers to [[spoiler: [[TheHeartless Hollow]]]] hunting as a tireless, thankless, self-sacrificing job without any rewards.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: This at the hands of a MadScientist and a hefty dose of ParentalAbandonment made Zero into the resentful, bitter EnfantTerrible he is today.
* BeneathTheMask: Orihime. Despite her [[PluckyGirl bubbly, cheerful]], [[WideEyedIdealist optimistic]], and [[CloudCuckooLander ditzy]] demeanor, Orihime is a StepfordSmiler with [[HeroicSelfDeprecation massive self-esteem issues]] and a GuiltComplex underneath it all. She just hides really well.
** [[spoiler: Eria is, technically, the [[BecomingTheMask partial manifestation]] of Orihime's hidden anguish, doubts, and love for Ichigo]].
* BerserkButton: Quite a few.
** Don't call [[TheNapoleon Ed]] short or any variation of that word.
*** His CrazyJealousGuy moments may also count.
*** [[BigBrotherInstinct And don't mess with his little brother, Al]].
** Don't break [[WrenchWench Winry's]] automail.
** Surprisingly, [[BewareTheNiceOnes Orihime]] has one. [[ManipulativeBastard Don't toy with other people's emotions]].
*** It has later been revealed several times through [[InnerMonologue inner monologues]] that Orihime does ''not'' like [[LovingAShadow people falling for her due to their own expectations or assumptions of her or her personality]], or [[AbhorrentAdmirer men]] perceiving her as nothing more than a BrainlessBeauty NaiveEverygirl [[HiddenDepths when she's anything but]]. [[spoiler: [[StepfordSmiler This just further drives her depression]]]].
* BettyAndVeronica: [[LongHairedPrettyBoy Edward's]] the Betty and [[{{Bishonen}} Ichigo's]] the Verionca to [[ObliviouslyBeautiful Orihime's]] Archie. [[DownplayedTrope Somewhat downplayed]] in the fact that both boys are very similar in personality. They are both [[HotBlooded passionate]] and [[HairTriggerTemper short tempered]], GoodIsNotNice, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerks With A Heart Of Gold]], and voluntary ChildSoldiers to some degree [[ChronicHeroSyndrome who would go out of their way to help the innocents]]. [[NotSoSimilar The difference is how they go about helping]]. Ed would try to be sneaky and pragmatic, helping out in ways that won't get his State Alchemist License revoked. After all, no matter how much his sticks his neck out for someone who can't help themselves, [[BigBrotherInstinct Alphonse is still his top priority]]. Ichigo, on the other hand, would not care if what he was doing would get him in trouble with the authorities or not. [[ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight He's simply doing it because it's the right thing to do]]. Orihime has commented that this is [[WartsAndAll the most particular aspect of their personalities that she likes and finds extremely endearing about both men]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Orihime is a kind and sweet girl. However, she isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes is right as a military general learned the [[AttackReflector hard way]]. Not to mention that she hates people who [[BerserkButton toys with other's emotions]]. Understandably, as she went through a [[BreakTheCutie similar experience]].
** Alphonse. [[GentleGiant Just because he's a friendly, considerate, and level headed giant suit of armor]] doesn't mean [[LetsGetDangerous he won't kick someone's ass when they threaten his loved ones]].
* BeyondTheImpossible: [[spoiler: [[SparedByTheAdaptation Chapter 14]]]]. [[spoiler: [[RealityWarper Orihime]]]] manages to save [[spoiler: Nina]] from her tragic fate, which Edward and Alphonse couldn't even do. Even stated to be scientifically impossible by Ed.
* BigBrotherInstinct: [[LittleBigBrother Edward]] towards Alphonse.
* BigDamnHeroes: Orihime makes an epic one in [[spoiler: Chapter 26]]. Her RescueRomance also counts.
* BigEater: Ed and Orihime. TastesLikeFriendship is what kicks off the start of them growing as friends.
* BigLittleBrother: Ed is Al's older brother, and the shorter of the two.
* BigStupidDooDooHead: Orihime calls Edward a big dummy for reading her [[SecretDiary diary]].
* BigWhat: Happens thrice in [[spoiler: Chapter 34]]
** Edward does it when Orihime shyly, embarrassingly, and innocently asks him if he was an exhibitionist after seeing him in his underwear, unbeknownst to her that [[ShamefulStrip he was forcibly stripped of his clothes]].
** [[AmbiguouslyBrown Paninya]], when Al announces Satella is having her babies.
** [[RuleOfThree Ed again when]] [[TheMedic Orihime]] [[RuleOfThree explains what a C section is]].
* BirdsOfAFeather: [[OppositesAttract Given their temperament and personalities]], it may not appear that way at first, but [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Edward]] and [[AllLovingHeroine Orihime]] have quite a few things in common. Both are [[HeartwarmingOrphan orphans]]. Both a have displayed bouts of ChronicHeroSyndrome. Both are {{Big Eater}}s. Both are [[PluckyGirl stubborn]] and [[{{Determinator}} determined]] when it comes to helping the people they love. Both are pacifists, ie. TechnicalPacifist and ActualPacifist, respectively. Both suffer from some sort of GuiltComplex. Despite their [[TheNapoleon outward apperances]] [[CloudCuckooLander and dispositions]], both display levels of [[HeroicSelfDeprecation doubts and insecurities]]. Both are InsecureLoveInterest. And both are [[TwiceShy shy and awkward when it comes to romance]].
** This is an interesting case because, in the beginning, Orihime occasionally inwardly comments how much [[YouRemindMeOfX Edward reminds her of Ichigo]]. However, when Ed and Ichigo's [[NotSoSimilar Not So Similarities]] comes to light, it's soon revealed that Ed has a lot of things more in common with ''her'' than with Ichigo. No wonder the two form a close bond and friendship that is [[spoiler: [[UnresolvedSexualTension gradually turning into love]]]].
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Eria comes off as this in her initial appearance. She presents herself as a kindhearted ProperLady, but is [[BrokenBird cold, bitter, and resentful underneath]].
** A variation. Junko is a kind and polite woman. [[spoiler: She is really just a [[DeadAllAlong lifeless corpse]] [[DemonicPossession possessed]] by a [[TheHeartless Hollow]] to get close to Orihime]].
* BlatantLies: The excuses Orihime gives Edward and Alphonse when she goes off [[TheMasquerade Hollow hunting]]. She's such a BadLiar even they don't buy it sometimes. Most of the time, it's because she [[HesitationEqualsDishonesty hesitates]] when trying to come up with a believable excuse.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: Winry, Nina, and Orihime, respectively.
* BodyguardCrush: [[spoiler: Edward's DeclarationOfProtection]] could be played off like this [[CannotSpitItOut since he isn't the type to openly admit his feelings, especially if they are romantic in nature]]. Several [[EveryoneCanSeeIt characters]] have commented on Ed's possessive need to act as Orihime's KnightInShiningArmor. [[spoiler: This is an interesting case since Ed was just assigned to guard [[{{Protectorate}} Orihime]] from the homunculi. He didn't develop feelings for her until after [[RescueRomance Chapter 15]]]].
* BoobsOfSteel: [[BadassTeacher Izumi]] has a sizeable bust, and she is Ed and Al's alchemy and martial artist teacher.
** Orihime has, arguably, the largest boobs in the entire story, and, according to Tatsuki, is a [[GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak black belt martial artist]].
*** [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]], she is an ActualPacifist, so she barely puts her hand to hand combat skills to use.
* BraidsOfAction: Gender inverted. Ed normally wears his [[LongHairedPrettyBoy long hair]] in a single braid, but he's one [[BadassBookworm badass alchemist]].
* BreakTheCutie: Poor, poor [[spoiler: [[TheCutie Nina]]]]. First her [[MadScientist father]] turns her into a [[BodyHorror chimera]]. And just when all that tragedy is behind her and she begins to make a new life in Resembool and makes a [[CuteGhostGirl friend]], they are attacked by a [[spoiler: [[TheHeartless Hollow]]]] and said friend gets [[EatenAlive killed]]. [[spoiler: Nina]] ends up [[BrokenTears crying]] all the day the next day with [[LockedOutOfTheLoop no one knowing how to cheer her up]], except for [[ISeeThemToo Orihime]].
** [[spoiler: [[LoveHurts Chapters 40 and 41]]]] serves as this for Ed. [[HeartbrokenBadass Edward]] goes through a heartbreakingly ''massive'' [[HeroicBSOD emotional breakdown]] about his placement in the LoveTriangle with Orihime and Ichigo during which a [[TheVamp female]] [[MonsterOfTheWeek villain]] tries to take [[ManipulativeBitch advantage]] of by [[BreakThemByTalking attacking his insecurities and coldly manipulating his]] HopelessSuitor status about his [[UnrequitedLove one-sided crush]] on [[LoveInterest Orihime]]. To great relief, Ed manages a [[HeroicSecondWind Heroic Second Wind]] that snaps him out his funk and he delivers a passionately ''epic'' [[ShutUpHannibal Shut up Hannibal]] speech.

But after their TastesLikeFriendship, and especially after [[spoiler: [[RescueRomance chapter 15]]]], he drops this notion altogether. Ed is normally very reluctant, off put, and hostile with anyone tagging with them. But the most he showed when Orihime joined in was mild annoyance and slight displeasure since the good outweighs the bad because he could potentially have a [[HealingHands healer]] and a [[CordonBleughChef cook]] traveling with him. And it's not really Orihime he's annoyed with, but her [[CloudCuckooLander antics]]. For a time.
* ForcefulKiss: Happens to Ed in [[spoiler: Chapter 41]]. [[TheVamp Amelia]] delivers one of these to a paralyzed Ed. Giving her [[KissofDeath specialty]], this was not good. Ed remarks that the kiss is cold and has no spark. He ends up [[TongueTrauma biting her tongue]] to get away.

Man, with all this, no wonder Zero's the [[EnfantTerrible warped and twisted child]] he is in the present. And all this before he was '''ten'''!

* FusionFic: As the story progresses, it's made more and more apparent that both the universes of ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'' and ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' are extremely intertwined. Unbeknownst to him, that someone is [[UnknownRival Ichigo]]]].
** He does finally find out Orihime is in love with Ichigo, effectively becoming a HopelessSuitor.
* GuiltComplex: Ed suffers from this and this is [[BigBrotherInstinct sole motivation for getting Al's body back]]. Hughes's death made his guilt even worse for getting someone killed trying to help him fix his mistakes.
** It's eventually revealed that Al feels the same way. He knew that there may be risks to [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique Human Transmutation]], and still went along with it anyway. He even laments that he doesn't want his body back, if people are going to keep dying for his sake. Luckily, [[TheHeart Orihime]] manages to snap him out of it, stating that if he gives up, then it would make the efforts of everyone who has helped him and his brother so far meaningless.

It may subtle with only one or two characters implying that she's suffering from this in the beginning, [[spoiler: but comes to the forefront after her FreakOut. It's revealed that she suffers terribly from SurvivorGuilt after the [[DamselInDistress Hueco Mundo]] [[BreakTheCutie incident]]. Because of this, [[HeroicSelfDeprecation Orihime is very hesitant and feels unworthy of asking for help for her personal problems, lamenting that if she can't solve her own problems, then she's weak, useless, and a burden to others]]. [[spoiler: Not to mention, Edward ends up getting mortally wounded, and was only saved thanks to Orihime's [[HealingHands healing powers]]]].

* LoveConfessor: Chapter 17. [[InsecureLoveInterest Orihime]] tells Winry of how madly in love she is with [[SingleTargetSexuality Ichigo]]. Although, this prompts her to admit her [[GreenEyedMonster jealousy towards Ichigo's and Rukia's relationship]], making [[HeroicSelfDeprecation her feel even more horrible]] when she declares that [[WhyCantIHateYou Rukia is a wonderful person]], and that she has no right to get in the way of their [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy relationship]]. This leads [[TheConfidant Winry]] to pull a YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre speech to her.
** [[spoiler: [[LoveTriangle Chapter 31]]]]. Another, unintentional, one on Orihime's part. After a [[SickEpisode sick Orihime]] accidentally lets out a small hint that she really likes someone, [[GreenEyedMonster Edward can not seem to let it go]]. He tries hard not to think about it too much, fearing that he was just overthinking things and misheard her. But, no matter how hard he tries, [[LoveHurts he can't ignore the pain and jealousy in his heart]]. He reasons that he just doesn't want her to break [[ThePromise The Promise]] and resolves to find out for himself if Orihime really is in love with another guy or not by tricking a sick and delirious Orihime into confessing (although, she doesn't tell him she's in love with [[UnknownRival Ichigo]]). Then there are the homunculi and [[spoiler: [[ArtificialHuman mod souls]]]] who are clearly evil, with the possible exception of [[AntiVillain Lust]] who is slowly slipping into the [[ALighterShadeOfBlack Lighter Shade of Black]] side. [[DoesNotLikeMen Chloe]], for her part, could be considered the TokenGoodTeammate on the villians' side.

[[spoiler: Comes with a little bit of FridgeBrilliance once you realize that Orihime, not withstanding her being trained by [[ChildhoodFriend Tatsuki]] in martial arts, has been fighting [[InvisibleToNormals supernatural]] [[TheHeartless monsters]] with superhuman strengths and abilities for over a year now compared to Ed and Al who deal with [[{{Muggles}} ordinary humans]], petty alchemists and criminals. Of couse she may have developed very above average instincts and reflexes]].
* MyGirlIsNotASlut: Ultimately, Ed's [[CrazyJealousGuy reaction]] when confronting Orihime about her modeling.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Several characters go through this.
** Orihime has a brief moment of this when she realizes [[spoiler: Nina]] is becoming more and more [[spoiler: [[ISeeDeadPeople spiritually aware]] after [[SparedByTheAdaptation she saves her from her fate as a chimera]]. This all culminates when Nina has enough spirit energy to attract a Hollow]].

** In [[spoiler: Chapter 43]], Hughes experiences this when he discovers that a woman he had killed during the Ishvalan Civil War [[DespairEventHorizon turned into a]] [[spoiler: [[TheHeartless Hollow]]]]. He despairingly laments how many others he killed have also turned into the [[spoiler: same monsters]] that tried to kill him, and how many are yet to come? He even remarks that the AwfulTruth about [[spoiler: Hollows]] makes the war much, ''much'' more darker and tragic in hindsight. Then nearly vomits when he realizes he may suffer the [[spoiler: same [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie fate]]]]. [[spoiler: Luckily, he doesn't, and [[DiedHappilyEverAfter he's able to pass on peacefully]]]].
* NearVillainVictory: Ritsuko comes close to killing Ed and Al during their [[CurbStompBattle one-sided match]]. It's only Orihime's last minute BigDamnHeroes moment that saves the day, despite having most of her [[YourSoulIsMine soul sucked out by Kyuko]] earlier.
* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: Part of Orihime's angst over the first few chapters of the story is that she never got to say goodbye to [[SingleTargetSexuality Ichigo]], unlike the time [[DamselInDistress she was forced to go to Hueco Mundo]].
* NiceGirl: Orihime is one of the most nicest, compassionate, and kindhearted characters in the whole story. [[AllLovingHeroine It's her kindness that draws others to her and easily allows her to befriend anybody]]. [[ExaggeratedTrope Her niceness is like a contagious disease]]. She's so nice that even [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Edward]] has a hard time staying mad at her and he rarely yells at her. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness If he does]], [[PlayedForDrama then it must be serious]].
* TheNicknamer: After Edward tells Orihime of his DarkAndTroubledPast, he prompts her to start calling him [[InSeriesNickname 'Ed']] since they have known each other for quite a while and are pretty close. After reminiscing about everything she's been through and finally confessing of how secretly proud she is to have met Ed and Al, [[spoiler:she makes a promise to stay be the brothers' side until they get their bodies back]].
