* CurbStompBattle: A number of Company brothers feel that they should have run right over Gondor. After all, they had just about every advantage they could ask for; a much larger army, hard hitting units like trolls and mûmakil, powerful siege engines and the Nine themselves, the biggest magical powerhouses in their hemisphere. But they still get routed with almost insulting ease by the forces of Gondor.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: More than a few orc chieftains are disgusted by how Sauron backstabs the Black Company after the Minas Tirith debacle, especially since it was only due to their leadership that those same orcs were able to get out alive.

* MindRape: Getting a telepathic message from the Witch-king is not a pleasant experience. Poor Sapper seemed to be about to have a stroke.

* SquishyWizard: Played straight with Sapper, the Black Company's resident sorcerer. While he's capable of some nifty feats, he's by no means a top tier spellcaster and requires his own bodyguard when in battle.
** Averted with the Nazgul. They are powerhouses in terms of both magical power and sheer durability. The Black Company also has records that note just how amazingly hard to kill some wizards are, such as the Lady and the Dominator.

* YouHaveFailedMe: In spite of their initial successes during the siege of Minas Tirith and being able to save themselves and a good portion of the Mordor army from complete annihilation when the defenders manage to rally against them, Sauron still feels that the Company has not lived up to their deal, so he decides to renegotiate their contract...by beheading their Captain and stealing their Annals as leverage. As might be expected, this did not go over well with the Black Company.
