* UnfazedEveryman: Melissa Shield is the TeamNormal and also the second least phased by being bonded to Izuku. She also takes the nature of One for All in stride, citing that she lives on an island used for developing secret technology and understands the idea of Need To Know.

* AdaptationalExplanation: In this fic, Denki's low intelligence is diagnosed as a few syndromes including dyslexia and ADHD, on account of his brain being wired differently to prevent his [[ShockAndAwe electrical Quirk]] from rendering him braindead.

** Aldera in canon had a few students laugh at Izuku when he said he'd apply for U.A with the principal, when Izuku did make it, congratulating Izuku warmly for making it into U.A. Here the entire place is corrupt, the grades are fixed to make Izuku look worse and Bakugo better, and the bullying is epidemic that the teachers allow and only stop when Izuku 'gets a Quirk'.

* TheChainOfHarm: {{Defied}} by [[spoiler:Hisashi Midoriya]], who had a terrible childhood with a father who outright disappeared on him and a mother who largely neglected him before foisting him off to her relatives, who soon put him in the foster system, which was clearly not nice to him. Rather than ending up subjecting his child to abuse borne out of his bad temper, he decided to leave and provide for him and his ex-wife [[spoiler:Inko]] even if he never saw them again.

** [[spoiler:Overhaul is murdered by All for One shortly after his arrest. [[DefiantToTheEnd All for One doesn't come out of it unscathed, though, as Overhaul wrecked All for One's hands to the point Mugen couldn't use the stolen Overhaul Quirk.]]]]

** Monoma attempts to copy Izuku's Quirk even after he gets warned that Izuku broke himself the first time he used it. He manages to copy it - and it turns out that, since it's a stockpile Quirk, he's essentially getting a blank. Monoma only has the time to utter [[OhCrap "Errors have been made"]] before Izuku tosses him out of the ring.

* FalseReassurance: U.A.'s staff tell the First Year Hero Course Students that they are doing their joint training to see if they're ready for the Sports Festival and work on any weak points that become apparent as a result, and cite Mirio's WardrobeMalfunction as a reason why they're doing this. None of this is false, but it works in hiding that the main reason for the joint training is to test Bakugou and Mineta before they have a chance to embarrass the school on live television. [[spoiler:Both fail the test when Mineta blatantly gropes Momo (who is intentionally acting as bait by wearing her old Midnight-inspired costume) and Bakugo ignoring an order against using his gauntlets for a potentially lethal attack on Ochako, leading to both of them being expelled.]]

* LikeFatherLikeSon: A group photo of Hisashi Midoriya with his five female coworkers reveals that he, like his son, is a harem anime protagonist. Though he is oblivious to their affections [[HeroicSelfDeprecation on account of being previously divorced]].

** Einosuke and Kayo Yaoyorozu once tasked Hisashi with figuring out where Nedzu gets his money from. His official report is just "You don't want to know".

** Nezu's [[NamedByTheAdaptation surname]] on his paperwork is Inokuma (犬熊). He got it from a Japanese student who was studying him in the Daintree Rainforest, who kept asking if the animal stealing her notes was a mouse, a dog, or a bear. [[spoiler:When she was killed trying to shut down the laboratory he was being studied in]], he kept her suggestion as his legal name (and his opening his introduction by asking if he's a mouse, a dog, or a bear) in her honor.

* BlessedWithSuck: Takashi Nouenbou, the Business Course student that makes a proposal for Izuku to counter the MLA's propaganda. His Quirk boosts his mental acuity, stamina, and speed - but requires him to eat fermented foods like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstromming surströmming]]. [[spoiler:He is very grateful when Izuku uses Overhaul to alter his tastebuds so that he no longer finds the foods he needs to eat to power his Quirk disgusting.]]

** Takashi Nouenbou, a Business Course student, is a milder one to Izuku. Izuku desperately wanted to be a hero, but was regularly told he never could be because he didn't have a Quirk. On the other hand, Takashi was frequently told he'd be a great hero because of his Quirk, yet he both dislikes his Quirk[[labelnote:*]]His Quirk increases his mental acuity, speed, and stamina but requires he eat fermented foods, which he can't stand, the more rancid, the stronger the effect[[/labelnote]] and genuinely has no interest in throwing himself into danger.

** Dawson Jamrach a.k.a. [[{{Animorphism}} Menagerie]] is a villain who captures, breeds, and sells wild animals for profit, especially the exotic and the Quirk-created prehistoric. His names come from Charles Dawson, the conman archaeologist who forged the Piltdown Man fossil, and Charles Jamrach, an infamous exotic pet store owner.

** When Bakugo uses his grenade gauntlets for the first time, All Might warns him not to use the attack since it could be lethal, only for Bakugo to reply that his target (Ochako this time) will be fine as long as they dodge. [[spoiler:As he's on probation in this universe, and a sudden Bonding level-up allows Ochako to dodge in BulletTime, the attack causes Bakugo to be expelled.]]

** [[spoiler:Tomura has one calling out All for One about how he didn't think through creating a protege with enough willpower to not only supposedly steal One for All, but also to defy All for One himself.]]

** The Bond Quirk user, Hitoshi Marubashi. He doesn't appear at all (until a Quirk-induced flashback in chapter 31), but him being the Stockpile Quirk user's lover leads to Bond getting absorbed by Stockpile before All for One forced the latter into Yoichi Shigaraki, which causes One for All to hit singularity a few months ahead of schedule. This lets Izuku learn of One for All's true nature sooner and gives him access to the Torchbearers' vestiges, letting him come up with Full Cowl and the previous Bearers' Quirks months sooner than canon.

** Izuku's Bonding Quirk allows him to do this to the girls he's bonded with. Chapter 31 shows a flashback where its original user names each level and that it has at least five levels.

** Akira Fuki's Quirk, "Pep Talk", lets him boost people's strength, stamina, and speed by giving them compliments, potentially doubling a person's power for twelve hours. Unfortunately, he can't use it on himself.

* AmericansHateTingle: InUniverse, many Texans claim All Might is in league with the devil because his hero name implies he's all-powerful and only God is all-powerful.

** [[spoiler:After the Kamino raid, Izuku gives Ragdoll a new version of Search, that is stronger than the original, and includes Diagnosis and Danger Sense.]]
** [[spoiler:Izuku manages to heal Tensei's spine and allows him to go back to hero duty.]]

** [[spoiler:He first uses it to heal Gluttony's constant hunger and Best Jeanist's mortal injury in the chest.]]

** Due to having the previous users as {{spirit advisor}}s, Izuku figures out Full Cowl before the practical exam, causing him to break All Might's record score at the entrance exam. Plus, there's One For All hitting the singularity ''much'' earlier than in canon that allowed it in the first place. Izuku also figures out a way to keep Full Cowl running all the time without its telltale signs. This allows him to get accustomed to the Quirk and increase its power much earlier, getting Danger Sense the day of the Class President election and Float during the USJ Incident, and reaching Full Cowl 10% before the Sports Festival, while Blackwhip is unlocked during the finals against Todoroki.

** Eri and Overhaul show up during Izuku's first patrol with Mirio.

** [[spoiler:Star and Stripe]] shows up at I-Island to stop Wolfram before he can attack the Expo.

** Uraraka, due to being raised by construction workers, is better at swearing than Bakugo. Everybody else besides Izuku is shocked by this.

** [[spoiler:Overhaul, who gets his skull crushed by All for One and his body washed over the sewers. The only people who care about his demise and want to avenge him are his fanatical followers, which boils down to Chronostasis, Mimic and Nemoto.]]

* BlamingTheVictim: Karen Mineta, Minoru's mother, blames Momo for her son's actions, insisting that "If those harlots are going to dress provocatively, a few youthful indiscretions are unavoidable".

** Similarly, Mineta is caught groping Momo by the U.A. security cameras during the test/spar Nezu set up for the First Year students. Said groping gives Nezu the excuse needed for ''his'' expulsion.

** When Bakugo tries to attack Izuku after the Entrance Exam results are released, there's a mention of another student filming everything with his mobile phone. During the teachers' meeting to decide where each Hero Student goes, Nezu shows the teachers that same video to ensure Izuku and Bakugo are kept in different classes. [[spoiler:Bakugo doesn't make it to the Sports Festival, due to ignoring an order by using a lethal attack on Ochako (that she dodges thanks to a sudden Bonding level-up) giving Nezu the needed excuse for expelling Bakugo.]]

** [[spoiler:Overhaul gets taken out by Izuku, who restrains him with Blackwhip before the Yakuza can even begin to fight.]]

** [[spoiler:Chronostasis is killed by All for One during Kamino to prevent him from turning against Tomura.]]

** When Momo said that her original costume design was based on Midnight's original costume, Izuku asks if she means the very costume that caused the Diet to pass laws regarding how much skin a Pro Hero can show. This causes Momo to admit that she hadn't considered things properly. Izuku also points out that the shelf on her back is a potential health risk (as one bad fall could sever her spine).

** [[spoiler:Instead of being impaled with spikes by Overhaul, Nighteye has his skull crushed by Slidin' Go.]]

** Shoda takes over as Monoma's CloudCuckooLandersMinder by hitting him in the leg when he goes too far in his hatred of 1-A.

** After noticing the favoritism All Might shows Izuku no matter how subtle the former tries to be, the other 1-A students come to the reasonable, but wrong, conclusion that they are father and son.

*** The Second and Third holders are livid enough after hearing about Endeavor's bullshit that they want to straight out ''kill'' him. They are quite pleased with Izuku's plan to ruin the man, though (which ends up involving Nezu, who had also dealt with Aldera in a similar way).
** The entire U.A. staff are sickened by Bakugo's bullying of Izuku and Mineta's perverted actions, making sure to keep them separated from their targets.

** Kaminari may be a pervert, but even he is disgusted with Mineta groping Momo.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Menagerie only sees the animals from Kuraudo Island in terms of the money he could make from selling them, not caring about their well-being at all.

** Izuku was treated very badly for most of his life due to his lack of a Quirk. This is shown when kids in his middle school would actively harass him in front of teachers who would do nothing to stop it despite it being their jobs, and it is later mentioned that students left red spider lilies on his desk multiple times[[labelnote:*]]Red spider lilies are a symbol of rebirth in Japan and are normally left at the desk of a dead classmate to mourn them - leaving them on the desk of a still-living classmate is basically telling them you wish they were dead[[/labelnote]]. It isn't until Izuku first manifests Full Cowl in class that a teacher stops Bakugo from attacking him. Said prevention being filmed by a different classmate is the beginning of the end for both Katsuki's time at U.A. and the existence of Aldera as a whole.

** David Shield and Sir Nighteye both are All Might fanboys who used to work with him and can't imagine a world without him, so they do something wrong trying to make it right. David realizes he messed up and starts taking steps to correct it on his own, Nighteye is set in the mindset that he's right until he is given undeniable proof he is wrong.

* GoodIsNotNice: Izuku, upon learning about Endeavor's actions in regards to his family and Todoroki, tells the Second and Third Vestiges they're not going to kill the man. Instead, Izuku wants to turn the entire world against him, thus rendering him useless and stripping him of that power he so adores and forcing him to live with the consequences of his actions. This impresses the Third Vestige enough that he decides that Izuku gets Fa Jin as soon as he's able.

** Inko's Attraction of Small Things might seem underpowered compared to the rest of the Quirks, but when you think about it, and other fanfics like ''Fanfic/AHeroRises'' has pointed out, her Quirk could theoretically work on body parts. Such as Redestro's teeth and his kidneys.

** Izuku's speech to Todoroki (which goes viral thanks to Nezu) forces Endeavor to realize how much he has screwed up everything in his self-imposed quest to either become the Number One Hero or ensure his children would achieve that.

** The USJ attack still happens despite Izuku catching Shigaraki stealing some documents from U.A. Said catching of Shigaraki also enables Izuku to confirm Decay is of a similar activation method (five-point-touch) to Ochako's Zero Gravity, which leads to Snipe specifically targeting a finger instead of a palm.
** Todoroki still spills his family situation to Izuku during the Sports Festival. This time, though, Nezu caught his testimony on tape since he was already investigating Endeavor (likely on request from Izuku) and Toru was the one who overheard it instead of Bakugo.

** Class 1-A learns that all the female hero students are in their class in Chapter 9, having not actually realized that until then.

* MoralMyopia: Most of the Shie Hassaikai want to take revenge on Izuku for Overhaul's death ([[BloodKnight Rappa]] just wants a good fight). The fact that Izuku stopped him because he was a horrible person who didn't even think twice of brutally torturing a young child, or that Overhaul was actually murdered by All for One, doesn't even factor in their minds.

** First thing Izuku sees when entering Classroom 1-A? Tenya chastising a classmate for putting up their feet on a desk and telling them to remove them. It's not Bakugo this time.
** After All Might's talk with David Shield, the latter's thoughts are a sign that he's already set up the events of ''Anime/MyHeroAcademiaTwoHeroes''.
** When Bakugo uses his grenade gauntlets for the first time, All Might warns him not to use the attack since it could be lethal, only for Bakugo to reply that his target (Ochako this time) will be fine as long as they dodge.

* OffTheRails: Since Overhaul was caught during the Internship arc, the Work Studies arc is shortened, and after the School Festival, a new original arc, combining the Survival Training OVA and the Joint Training arc, alongside the events of the ''Heroes Rising'' movie.

** Izuku tells All Might about his and Bakugo's relationship which leads to All Might telling Nezu who already found video proof of Bakugou's bullying, which leads to the two being separated and Bakugo being placed in Class 1-B.

** As David Shield learns about One for All and that All Might has picked Izuku as his successor before the internships, [[spoiler:he scraps the plan to get the Quirk Amplification Device to All Might, fires Sam and warns the island (and American hero Star and Stripe) about Wolfram's arrival, which leads to the latter's arrest and the derailing of the ''Anime/MyHeroAcademiaTwoHeroes'' plot]].

* RefusalOfTheCall: Downplayed. Izuku refuses to help Nezu test Bakugo's suitability for participating in the Sports Festival, stating he's spent the last decade being used to further Bakugo's career and he's done.

** Re-Destro comments that Izuku "couldn't have a Meta Ability with an extra toe joint" and that he must have stolen it somehow. While it ''is'' possible to have a Quirk and still have the toe joint, he's right that Izuku was Quirkless until given one by someone else.

** Izuku's speech at the beginning of the Sports Festival, where he [[DareToBeBadass challenges]] all the other students to show any villain watching why they should think twice before trying to mess up with U.A.

* ShutUpHannibal: When Bakugo threatens to beat Izuku after coming first place in the Entrance Exam while implying the latter could have only passed by cheating or bribing someone, Izuku just activates Full Cowl and shuts him (and the entire class) up.

** [[spoiler:Kai Chisaki is defeated in his very first scene and dead only a couple chapters later. However, he's responsible for Eri's mental trauma, mutilates Mugen to the point the man can't use his hands, let alone Overhaul, and his minions get recruited into the League of Villains]].

** The unnamed classmate in Izuku and Bakugo's middle school who recorded Bakugo attacking Izuku and uploaded it to the Internet. When Nezu gets his paws on the video, it leads to an investigation into Aldera Middle School (which is closed for their actions) and prompts a thorough background check on all the students - which causes Bakugo and Mineta to be put on probation and in 1-B, while Izuku and all of the girls in that year are put in 1-A.

*** At level 2 (Empowering Bond, triggered when either Izuku or the girl reaches a LoveEpiphany), they get outright telepathy, the girls can talk with the Vestiges and they get a boost to their physical abilities while within Bond's range - said boost being 10% of their base times the number of Level 2 bonds and range being ten ''to the power'' of the number of level 2 bonds in meters, so when all the girls reach level 2, they gain a permanent 80% boost to their physical power. It can also grant greater bursts when in grievous danger.

** [[spoiler:All for One devolves into wordless fury as all his attempts to break down All Might in their fight (mentioning Nana's grandson's fate, revealing his true form on live TV) completely fall flat, with All Might even returning the favor by calling him by his real name.]]

** David Shield is called out by both All Might and Melissa when he admits to trying to set up the heist for the quirk amplification device.

* ATasteOfTheirOwnMedicine: [[spoiler:All for One gets this when Izuku, the Vestiges and the Ennead are able to steal or destroy several of the Quirks he has stolen throughout the years. In all, 23 are outright destroyed and a further eleven (including Search, Super Regeneration, and '''''Overhaul''''') are stolen.]]

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: When Gran Torino chastises his mentee Tenya for his actions in Hosu, Tenya says that his judgement must've been impaired from multiple blows to the head (from sparring with Torino). That actually makes Torino dissolve into belly laughs.

** Mr. Compress is introduced during the Training Camp arc. Since he is not a member of the League here, he debuts during the Work Studies arc.

** Nezu's [[NamedByTheAdaptation surname]] on his paperwork is Inokuma (犬熊). He got it from a Japanese student who was studying him in the Daintree Rainforest, who kept asking if the animal stealing her notes was a mouse, a dog, or a bear. ** Chapter 72 ends with [[spoiler:Sir Nighteye going into a panic after using his Quirk on Curious to see a horrifying future, and is killed by Slidin Go before he can warn anyone about it]]. [[spoiler:Chapters 73 and 74 add onto this with the reveal that Tomura is now in full control of the All for One Quirk, imprisoning Mugen Shigaraki deep in the Quirk's vestige world and using the power to remote-control his body to break out of Tartarus. From there he steals the Quirks of the MLA's leadership before killing them, before blowing up AFO's body alongside Tartarus.]]

* DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou: Hisashi leaving his wife and child had nothing to do with his son's Quirklessness. In fact, he left them before that was even a known fact: his leaving stemmed from the fact that due to his own messed up upbringing, he didn't know how to be a good husband or father, and he ultimately decided that they'd be better off without him in their lives. Upon learning that All Might has effectively replaced him in his family's life, Hisashi's reaction is to say that he's glad they found someone better than him and wish them well.

** [[spoiler:Hisashi Midoriya]] is also one to Endeavor. Both are poor fathers with Fire-based Quirks and have difficulties related to their respective abilities. [[spoiler:[[DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou Hisashi, however, chooses to stay away from]] his son]] because of his own belief that [[DarkAndTroubledPast he'd be a poor father due to his childhood troubles]] and [[PowerIncontinence temper problems mixing with his Quirk]], and thus while not a good parent, is ultimately acting out of a desire to mitigate any damage he might cause to his family, even if it means that he's not part of their life anymore. [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure The Yaoyorozus]], who lend a neutral ear, encourage him to at least give himself a chance to make amends. Endeavor only begins to realize how poor of a father he really is after Izuku's [[ArmorPiercingResponse speeches]], and only long after he had caused ''immense'' psychological and physical trauma to his entire family for the sake of his one-sided rivalry with All Might. Anyone who learns about this is understandably enraged at how low Endeavor is willing to sink for a rivalry, and [[TheDreaded Nezu]] is very much on his case.
** Takashi Nouenbou, a Business Course student, is a milder one to Izuku. Whereas Izuku desperately wanted to be a hero, he was regularly told he never could be because he didn't have a Quirk. On the other hand, Takashi was frequently told he'd be a great hero because of his Quirk, yet he both dislikes his Quirk[[labelnote:*]]His Quirk increases his mental acuity, speed, and stamina but requires he eat fermented foods, which he can't stand, the more rancid, the stronger the effect[[/labelnote]] and genuinely has no interest in throwing himself into danger.
* ForWantOfANail: Though it is not revealed right away, the main nail is that the original owner of the Stockpile Quirk had a lover who had the Bonding Quirk which was also stolen by All for One. Because of this, Bonding merged with Stockpile before All for One forced it on his brother. Every other change flows through from there.
** The story begins with the vestiges of One For All manifesting just before the entrance exam because Bonding being mixed in One for All caused the Quirk to hit Singularity earlier than in canon, which allows for Izuku to use Full Cowl during said exam.
** Due to the Vestiges bolstering his confidence, Izuku has more of a backbone than in canon, beginning with telling off Bakugo during the first class day after the Entrance Exam results come out.
** Izuku tells All Might about his and Bakugo's relationship which leads to All Might telling Nezu who already found video proof of Bakugou's bullying, which leads to the two being separated and Bakugo being placed in Class 1-B.
** After Nezu finds out the truth about Bakugo, he personally redoes all their background checks on the students and discovers that Mineta has a history of sexual harassment that was scrubbed clean by his connections. Since ''officially'' he has no record and his mother is on U.A.'s school board, they cannot simply deny his enrollment, but they ''can'' take precautions to protect their female students from him. This leads to Mineta also being placed in Class 1-B and Class 1-A having all the girls in one class with Izuku, Tenya, Kaminari, Kirishima, Koda, Tokoyami, and Tetsutetsu. Tetsutetsu is the only boy in 1-A here who was in 1-B in canon.
** Due to Izuku being distracted by Danger Sense, he doesn't decide to pass his status as class representative to Tenya after the latter calms everyone down during the break-in at UA.
** Izuku catching Shigaraki in the act of stealing the class schedules results in several changes. Firstly, U.A.'s staff provides him with a panic button so that he can warn them the next time his Danger Sense goes off, which in turn lets U.A. staff know immediately when the USJ is attacked (because Izuku managed to press it before a Quirk-based jammer could fully kick in). Secondly, U.A., knowing an attack is coming, take precautions and so were already prepared for the USJ attack, with Hound Dog accompanying the students and All Might not using his limited time to stop petty crime. Thirdly, because the League of Villains realizes the second point, they bring additional Nomu when they finally do launch their attack. And fourthly, Izuku reporting on Shigaraki's Quirk being a five-point touch Quirk causes Snipe to aim and shoot off one of Shigaraki's fingers, making him less able to use it.
** Out of concern that Bakugou and Mineta may cause them bad press at the Sports Festival, Nezu arranges a joint training between Classes 1-A and 1-B to test the two before they have a chance to cause them a P.R. disaster. The staff justify it to their students by citing Mirio's WardrobeMalfunction that caused him to flash everyone watching as a cover for the real reason they are doing this. As a consequence of their behavior during their fights with Ochako and Momo respectively, Bakugo (for use of lethal force after specifically being told not to) and Mineta (for blatantly groping Momo) are expelled.
** None of the canon Cavalry Battle teams are formed up due to all the different relationship dynamics. For example, Tsuyu joins Izuku's team instead of Fumikage, who teams up with Reiko, Kuroiro, and Shoji.
*** As a consequence of this, the tournament changes its lineout, with [[OriginalCharacter Akira Fuki]], Kamakiri, Monoma, Pony, Rin, and Tsuyu replacing Aoyama, Bakugo, Denki, Fumikage, Sero, and Tetsutetsu.
*** Izuku's first fight is against Monoma instead of Shinso (who fights Momo). He does still fight Shinso, but thanks to Momo and then Iida he knows of Shinso's Quirk and beats him near-instantly.
*** Iida is defeated by Shinso in the quarter-finals.
*** Ochako reaches the semifinals after defeating Rin and Tsuyu but loses to Todoroki.
*** Izuku wins the tournament by defeating Todoroki in the final match. Also, while he still convinces Todoroki to start using his fire, rather than pointing out that the fire half of his Quirk is his instead of Endeavor's, he appeals to his desire to make a positive mark as a hero and help people feel safe.
** Due to a combination of Bakugo not being in Class 1-A, Izuku not trying to downplay Bakugo's abrasive attitude, and the Bonding Quirk ''clearly'' conveying how much Izuku hates being called "Deku", Ochako never redefines it for him, leaving it out of the running as a potential hero name. He chooses Kyuseishu instead.
** The spring internship choices change: Izuku goes for Sir Nighteye, Itsuka for Gunhead, Momo for Fatgum, Ochako for Ryukyu, Tsuyu for Gang Orca, and Tenya (after All Might's intervention) for Gran Torino.
** Due to Izuku having access to Blackwhip ''before'' [[spoiler:the Shie Hassaikai arc starts, Overhaul gets captured before the raid can even happen]]. Much like Snipe shooting off one of Shiragaki's fingers, Izuku immediately recognizing a five-point-touch-based Quirk sees Blackwhip used to orchestrate said capture in a CurbStompBattle.
** As David Shield learns about One for All and that All Might has picked Izuku as his successor before the internships, [[spoiler:he scraps the plan to get the Quirk Amplification Device to All Might, fires Sam and warns the island (and American hero Star and Stripe) about Wolfram's arrival, which leads to the latter's arrest and the derailing of the ''Anime/MyHeroAcademiaTwoHeroes'' plot]].
** Endeavor coming forward during the Summer Camp with his past abuse of Rei and his family throws a wrench into Dabi's plans to ruin his reputation. Instead of society rallying against heroes as a result of the fallout, it suddenly makes the HPSC look either corrupt or foolish.
** [[spoiler:Because Aoyama doesn't know his Quirk came from All For One, he unthinkingly reveals to Izuku that his Quirk was "awakened" by a Japanese specialist]].

* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Takashi recognizes Izuku as a fellow [=HeroNet=] forumite from his wording about not exposing a Hero's weaknesses.

** The Bond Quirk user, Hitoshi Marubashi. He doesn't appear at all (until a Quirk-induced flashback in chapter 31), but him being the Stockpile Quirk user's lover leads to Bond getting absorbed by Stockpile before All for One forced the latter in Yoichi Shigaraki, which causes One for All to hit singularity a few months ahead of schedule. This lets Izuku learn of One for All's true nature sooner and gives him access to the Torchbearers' vestiges, letting him come up with Full Cowl and the previous Bearers' Quirks months sooner than canon.

* TargetedToHurtTheHero: Part of the reason why [[spoiler:Re-Destro attacks All Might and Inko is because he expects this will hurt Izuku, it backfires, horribly for him]].

* TerminallyDependentSociety: Izuku identifies this problem early in the story - All Might becoming Japan's Number One Hero alone means he's the only pillar keeping society up. Izuku instead wants himself and everyone else in the Hero Course to learn from All Might so they can prevent this problem in the future.

* ThereCanOnlyBeOne: A rather... odd example appears when they talk about the vestiges of the Stockpile user. Apparently, what is supposed to naturally happen is the stronger Quirk subsumes the weaker and the weaker vestige is removed(?) from the mental scape, which Yoichi reveals happened to the Stockpile user's vestige and what they assume happened to the Bond user's vestige when inside of All for One. [[spoiler:Chapter 31 reveals that Stockpile's and Bond's vestiges managed to remain alive together, and when Stockpile was put into Yoichi, they decided to let it erase them, not wanting to survive without the other.]]

* ThrowTheDogABone: WordOfGod is that [[OCStandIn Akira Fuki]] will be this to Vlad King when he joins Class 1-B.

** [[spoiler:All for One devolves into wordless fury as all his attempts to break down All Might in their fight (mentioning Nana's grandson's fate, revealing his true form on live TV) completely fall flat, with All Might even returning the favour by calling him by his real name.]]

* EntertaininglyWrong: After noticing the favoritism All Might shows Izuku no matter how subtle the former tries to be, the other 1-A students come to the reasonable, but wrong, conclusion that they are father and son.

** Nezu got his name and {{Catchphrase}} from a biology student who encountered him while working in the rainforest, and then was killed while she was trying to free him from the laboratory where he was being experimented on. She's only mentioned in one paragraph, but she was likely the reason why Nezu became the person he is instead of a human-hating monster bent on revenge.

** Todoroki acts like this to Bakugo. When Bakugo accuses the rest of 1-B of "trying to ride his coattails", Rin bluntly points out they'd be asking Todoroki if they wanted that as he's the one who is actually at the top of the class. Todoroki also actually bothers to remember their names unlike Bakugou, so even on a social interactions level, [[SociallyInept Todoroki]] comes out ahead.

* AndIMustScream: Anyone that enters the vestige dreamworld for the first time can only use their eyes, as the rest of their body is a black-like substance. While Izuku easily deals with it, Ochako and Momo become terrified the first time they experience it. Ochako even nearly name-drops the trope.

** Nezu's [[NamedByTheAdaptation surname]] on his paperwork is Inokuma (犬熊). He got it from a Japanese student who was studying him in the Daintree Rainforest, who kept asking if the animal stealing her notes was a mouse, a dog or a bear. [[spoiler:When she was killed trying to shut down the laboratory he was being studied in]], he kept her suggestion as his surname in her honor.

** In the original version of Chapter 3, Izuku directly gives one to Aizawa, saying that his actions which caused Izuku to have trouble trusting his teacher remind him of his teachers from Aldera middle school. It was later revised to Izuku freezing up and unintentionally dumping it in one of his mutter-storms. Either way, this shocks Aizawa who, while he has no problem admitting he's not that good of a teacher, sees their actions against Izuku as reprehensible as teachers.

* AscendedFanon: InUniverse example. Fans theorize for years that the Pussycats are polyamorous (The Wild Wild Polyamory, as is called) and is finally confirmed by Pixie-Bob to Izuku when he goes visit Ragdoll at the hospital.

** The first is one where Endeavor refuses to learn from his mistakes, which results in his dirty laundry being exposed in the worst possible way, people losing their trust on heroes and Endeavor dying.

** The last two are similar, with the last being the one makes its way to the story, with Endeavor speaking with his cousin [[spoiler:Hisashi]], and owning up his mistakes to the public, which leads to a better future to his family.

* BehavioralConditioning: For more than 10 years, Bakugo has been able to bully Izuku without any problem because no teacher ever reprimanded him (and a few of them even ''praised'' him for his actions). Due to this, he believes his actions are perfectly fine, and thus finds himself out of his depth when everyone in U.A. that interacts with him and knows of his past behavior is clearly disgusted or outright hates him.

** Izuku is a NiceGuy, very friendly, and willing to help anyone that needs it. He will also rain hell on anyone that hurts the people he cares about, like Endeavor for what he put Shouto through or everyone that told Tsuyu her appearance was weird. And when [[AxCrazy Muscular]] threatened [[{{Protectorate}} Kota and Eri]], Izuku answered by giving the murderous villain the NoHoldsBarredBeatdown of his life.

** Ochako is a cheerful girl that likes being a Hero because it allows her to help others. She also has one of the foulest mouths at school (surpassing even [[SirSwearsALot Bakugo]]), and pressing her BerserkButton is basically a quick way to ensure your ass gets (possibly literally) kicked into orbit.
** Chapter 61 is titled after the trope, and shows Koji having a Quirk evolution out of sheer wrath at the ArcVillain (who mistreats animals without a care), before telepathically aiming every animal in earsight at the latter.

** All Might shouts this when Nezu casually reveals that Endeavor is his next target after Aldera Middle school for practicing Quirk breeding to produce Shoto.

* BlessedWithSuck: Takashi Nouenbou, the Business Course student that makes a proposal for Izuku to counter the MLA's propaganda. His Quirk boosts his mental acuity, stamina and speed - but requires him to eat fermented foods like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstromming surströmming]]. [[spoiler:He is very grateful when Izuku uses Overhaul to alter his tastebuds so that he no longer finds the foods he needs to eat to power his Quirk disgusting.]]

** The first piece of gear that Mei makes Izuku is a pair gloves that help lessen the blowback from punching.

* BothSidesHaveAPoint: After [[spoiler:the MLA uprising]], numerous heroes quit in part because they're worried that they won't be getting paid any more. While it's true that society ''does'' need heroes more than ever, Ochako admits that it's a very valid concern, especially given how dangerous their job is.

** During their date, Izuku learns how badly some of Tsuyu's classmates treated her and asks for their names, while insisting it wouldn't be vigilantism because "[[ExactWords A pipe wrench isn't a quirk]]". Nearly forty chapters later, Tsuyu reveals another way her classmates made fun of her, causing the Ennead to ask for some contact information. Tsuyu says she will if Izuku can prove he doesn't own a pipe wrench. [[ExactWords He doesn't, but Mei does and Momo can make more]].

** Bakugou confronting Izuku and the teachers not doing anything to protect the latter is all caught on tape by another student, and ''uploaded on to the Internet''. Nezu discovers the video and shares it with his staff and they all realize Bakugou is going to be a problem. Nezu also begins investigating Aldera Middle School to uncover any other crimes they might be hiding. Bakugo ends up giving Nezu the excuse the principal was looking for to expel him.

* TheChainOfHarm: {{Defied}} by [[spoiler:Hisashi Midoriya]], who had a terrible childhood with a father that outright disappeared on him and a mother that largely neglected him before foisting him off to her relatives, who soon put him in the foster system, which was clearly not nice to him. Rather than ending up subjecting his child to abuse borne out of his bad temper, he decided to leave and provide for him and his ex-wife [[spoiler:Inko]] even if he never saw them again.

** He also finds himself largely unaffected by how he seems to lack everything but his eyes in his first visit to the Vestiges dreamworld. Ochako and Momo become terrified when that happens to them.

** Chapter 7 opens with Izuku, Momo, and Ochako getting costume upgrades. Ochako gets new boots based more on actual astronaut boots, with a gyroscope and a jet system to propel herself, but only because Mei had decided to make them out of her own will (inspired by an idea the bond gave her) since Ochako had not made a request. Izuku gets his Gamma costume ''much'' earlier than in canon, but the respirator has a noise-canceling function added to allow him to filter his mumbling. Momo's new costume gets described as a hybrid of Setsuna's bodysuit in red and some of the armored pieces from Mirio's costume, with the utility belt solely for emergency food to fuel her Quirk, a wrist-mounted computer, and a visor with a built-in HUD. Ochako's new boots are also much more practical than the original's high heels, while Momo's wrist-mounted computer is better for her spine than the original's shelf by removing the dangers a particularly bad landing could be.

*** Izuku and Momo vs Tokoyami and Itsuka in the former's favor. The staff respond by ensuring they don't get paired up again.

*** One of the Nomus gets shocked into unconsciousness after Momo shoots its exposed brain with a crossbow bolt attached with a steel wire whose other end is in Kaminari's hand.

** Discussed and Downplayed. When Ibara says it is somewhat admirable that Kaminari can keep his perversions in check, Kyouka says that it's an extremely low bar to clear. Setsuna for her part chimes in and concedes that while it's true the bar is low, too many men fail to clear it, which results in Kyouka deciding that yes, this is ultimately a point in Kaminari's favor. Kaminari saw a peep-hole and chose to report its presence first, which helps him, especially when Mineta's own more obvious perversions prove to be his downfall.

** Hisashi Midoriya name drops the trope when Izuku points out that at least he did better than Endeavor when it came to being a father.

** [[spoiler:Yoichi's last words to his older brother, who just found out that he gave away his stockpiling Quirk, are "[[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu Sorry, brother,]] but YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle" When he said he died meming, he wasn't kidding.]]

** PlayedWith regarding [[spoiler:All for One, who is not dead yet in canon, but here is left braindead after Tomura destroys his conscience at the Vestige realm after gaining his original Quirk.]]

** Nezu is well feared by most anyone that knows about him, and they are quite pleased when he turns his attention on those who've wronged/angered them or those they care for. Izuku even states that treating with him feels like a DealWithTheDevil.
* DudeNotFunny: When Izuku is nervous during the gala he is attending as Momo's date, Daigoro jokes that he should pretend he's going to give his Sports Festival speech and call Nana's grandson a "whiny little baby". Neither the Vestiges, nor Izuku or Momo, find it funny at all.

** Izuku combines Float and One for All to easily win the first event of the Sports Festival, even after he doubles back to help the others get through the robots (via protecting the students from the robots frozen by Shoto) and explodes part of the minefield.

* EvilIsPetty: Re-Destro sets his MLA lieutenants to finding ways to destroy Izuku for daring to give Detnerat a bad customer review in front of prospective investors. [[NeverMyFault The thought of actually doing something about his company's products and terrible customer service never occurs to him]].

* FantasticRacism:

** Detnerat, which is a [[SuperSupremacist Meta Liberation Army]] front, not only refuses to make any products for Quirkless people (such as shoes) but are very hostile towards the idea of Quirkless people buying their products. Izuku gets to call Re-Destro (in his civilian identity) out on this matter.
** Shinso also suffered from this on account of his "villain" Quirk, to the point that he wasn't even allowed to talk to other people at school and other students would also leave red spider lilies on his desk.

** David Shield and Sir Nighteye both are All Might fanboys that used to work with him and can't imagine a world without him, so they do something wrong trying to make it right. David realizes he messed up and starts taking steps to correct it on his own, Nighteye is set in the mindset that he's right until he is given undeniable proof he is wrong.
** [[spoiler: Hisashi Midoriya]] is also one to Endeavor. Both are poor fathers with Fire-based Quirks, and have difficulties related to their respective abilities. [[spoiler:[[DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou Hisashi however chooses to stay away from]] his son]] because of his own belief that [[DarkAndTroubledPast he'd be a poor father due to his childhood troubles]] and [[PowerIncontinence temper problems mixing with his Quirk]], and thus while not a good parent, is ultimately acting out of a desire to mitigate any damage he might cause to his family, even if it means that he's not part of their life anymore. [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure The Yaoyorozus]], who lend a neutral ear, encourage him to at least give himself a chance to make amends. Endeavor only begins to realize how poor of a father he really is after Izuku's [[ArmorPiercingResponse speeches]], and only long after he had caused ''immense'' psychological and physical trauma to his entire family for the sake of his one-sided rivalry with All Might. Anyone who learns about this is understandably enraged at how low Endeavor is willing to sink for a rivalry, and [[TheDreaded Nezu]] is very much on his case.
** Takashi Nouenbou, a Business Course student, is milder one to Izuku. Whereas Izuku desperately wanted to be a hero, he was regularly told he never could be because he didn't have a Quirk. On the other hand, Takashi was frequently told he'd be a great hero because of his Quirk, yet he both dislikes his Quirk[[labelnote:*]]His Quirk increases his mental acuity, speed, and stamina but requires he eat fermented foods, which he can't stand, the more rancid, the stronger the effect[[/labelnote]] and genuinely has no interest in throwing himself into danger.

** Izuku catching Shigaraki in the act of stealing the class schedules results in several changes. Firstly, U.A.'s staff provides him with a panic button so that he can warn them the next time his Danger Sense goes off, which in turn lets U.A. staff know immediately when the USJ is attacked (because Izuku managed to press it before a Quirk-based jammer could fully kick in). Secondly, U.A., knowing an attack is coming, take precautions and so were already prepared for the USJ attack, with Hound Dog accompanying the students and All Might not using his limited time in stopping petty crime. Thirdly, because the League of Villains realizes the second point, they bring additional Nomu when they finally do launch their attack. And fourthly, Izuku reporting on Shigaraki's Quirk being a five-point touch Quirk causes Snipe to aim and shoot off one of Shigaraki's fingers, making him less able to use it.

*** Ochako reaches the semifinals after defeating Rin and Tsuyu, but loses to Todoroki.

** With the League reduced to Tomura, Dabi and Canopy, the MLA dismisses them as threat, and the events of the Meta Liberation Army arc are AdaptedOut.

** [[spoiler: Thanks to all the adicional Quirks gained during the Nabu Island arc, Izuku is capable of using 100% of One for All as of the arc.]]

* TheGadfly: En, the sixth user of One for All, is a jokester that loves to mess around with Izuku.

* GoMadFromTheRevelation: [[spoiler:During the Kamino Raid, Toga gets a sample of Izuku's blood and shape shifts into him, giving her a copy of Bonding and linking her to his telepathic network, exposing her to all of their feelings towards her. When she realises they pity her for her Quirk circumstances, deny her because she hurts others, and want her to get help, not because they want her to be normal, but because they want her to stop hurting people, she can't take the emotions and [[RunningAwayToCry runs off in shame to cry]].]]

** Inko's Attraction of Small Things might seem underpowered compared to the rest of the Quirks, but when you think about it, and other fanfics like ''Fanfic/AHeroRises'' has pointed out, her Quirk could theortically work on body parts. Such as Redestro's teeth and his kidneys.

** Todoroki still spills his family situation to Izuku during the Sports Festival. This time, though, Nezu caught his testimony on tape since he was already investigating Endeavor (likely on request from Izuku) and Toru was the one that overheard it instead of Bakugo.

** Pony mentions a few fundamentalists in Texas who believe that All Might is evil, because his name is claiming that he is all-powerful and only God is all-powerful.
* InsultToRocks: Menagerie admits that calling his underling a neanderthal is unfair, because neanderthals weren't any less intelligent than modern humans, unlike said flunky.

** When Aizawa learned that he was going to have all the first year girls in his class, he attempted to quit, thinking it was going to be a mess. In the end, Class 1-A becomes such smooth sailing that it's stated that they have managed to hold out the longest as Aizawa's class without having an expulsion, while Vlad King is driven to short-term alcoholism over how dysfunctional Class 1-B has quickly become and ends up expelling Bakugo after he violates his probation and Mineta over his assault on Momo.

* LegacyCharacter: InUniverse, Jurassic Mark. Ever since Marcus Cuvier at the beginning of the Age of Quirks, there's always been a Jurassic Mark acting as Kuraudo Island's steward. The current title holder is Marcus Cuvier VII, and his heir apparent is his grandaughter Susan Cuvier.

** Saiko's intelligence boosting Quirk doesn't help with information she doesn't have or when she's making decisions based on emotion rather than logic.

* LukeIAmYourFather: Defied, as a reference to the "Deku is the son of/Descended from All For One" fan plotline. Yoichi has gone on the record that even if Mugen wasn't asexual, he'd never potentially create a child stronger than himself, especially after the screw up that created One For All in the first place. [[spoiler:Mugen himself later thinks about how he has gone out of his way to cull his entire family tree, including distant relatives, meaning he's the only living Shigaraki in existence, ruling out even the most distant of relations.]]
* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: Izuku half-jokingly asks for advice on how to do this in regards to Mineta when he sees the boy outright drooling over the girls in 1-A.

** Dawson Jamrach a.k.a. [[{{Animorphism}} Menagerie]] is a villain who captures, breeds and sells wild animals for profit, especially the exotic and the Quirk-created prehistoric. His names come from Charles Dawson, the conman archaeologist who forged the Piltdown Man fossil, and Charles Jamrach, an infamous exotic pet store owner.

** The empathic bonds Izuku forms with his partners allows all of them to gain a level of insight into each other as if they've known each other for years. It allows them to know what each other is thinking and feeling, and how they would react to specific words and actions, even at a distance. It also allows Izuku to realize Mei is attending Momo's social get-together even though he was not told ahead of time anyone not from 1-A or their families would be there.

* {{Namedar}}: Quirk Understanding not only describes a Quirk's name and how it works, but also the names of their original users. [[spoiler:All for One didn't care about this part, but the Vestiges do when Izuku manages to steal it from him]].

* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Muscular thought it would be funny to threaten Kota and Eri. [[PapaWolf Izuku]] answered by breaking his arms, his legs and his jaw.

* OffTheRails: Since Overhaul was caught during the Internship arc, the Work Studies arc is shortned and after the School Festival, a new original arc, combining the Survival Trainning OVA and the Joint Trainning arc, alongside the events of the ''Heroes Rising'' movie.

** Takashi Nouenbou, the Business Course student that suggests how Deku can counter the MLA's propaganda, had already met him through the [=HeroNet=] forums.

** Bonding is this trope in Quirk form. As the bonded individuals develop their relationship, they can gain more power from the love fueling their relationship. It starts from granting increased empathy, and the next levels include outright telepathy, Quirk sharing and a boost to all physical abilities, teleporting to a bonded's location and [[spoiler:cheating death]].

* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Downplayed since Mineta's actions are not known to have made it that far, but U.A.s teachers are ''not'' happy to uncover evidence that he is a serial sexual harasser that his family covered up. Mineta later openly groping Momo is the final straw and it results in a swift expulsion and Momo's father pressing charges against him and his family for enabling him for so long.

** A short one after Aizawa threatens to expel the lowest ranked student in the Quirk Assessment test.

* SchmuckBait: Even after she gets a better hero costume, Momo decides to wear her original MsFanservice costume to the inter-class duels, knowing it will truly put Mineta to test. Needless to say, Mineta completely fails.

* ShutUpHannibal: When Bakugo threatens to beat Izuku after coming first place in the Entrance Exam, while implying the latter could have only passed by cheating or bribing someone, Izuku just activates Full Cowl and shuts him (and the entire class) up.

** The Bond Quirk user, Hitoshi Marubashi. *** At level 2 (Empowering Bond, triggered when either Izuku or the girl reach a LoveEpiphany), they get outright telepathy, the girls can talk with the Vestiges and they get a boost to their physical abilities while within Bond's range - said boost being 10% of their base times the number of Level 2 bonds and range being ten ''to the power'' of the number of level 2 bonds in meters, so when all the girls reach level 2, they gain a permanent 80% boost to their physical power. It can also grant greater bursts when in grievous danger.

*** At level 4 (Attracting Bond, triggered by Izuku and the girl being separated and wanting to be in the same place), Izuku and the girls are be able to teleport to each other. [[spoiler:All the girls simultaneously unlock this level during the Kamino Raid, allowing them to teleport into the fight.]] It also allows the Vestiges to properly manifest for a short time, allowing other people to interact with them.

*** Through the combination of Bonding, One For All and Momo's Creation Quirk, [[spoiler:Izuku can give other people Quirks by creating copies of his collected Quirks and giving them to others through a strand of his hair. * TargetedToHurtTheHero: Part of the reason why [[spoiler:Re-Destro attacks All Might and Inko is because he expects this will hurt Izuku, it backfires, horriblly for him]].

* ThereAreNoTherapists: While they certainly aren't licensed therapists, the vestiges waste no time in trying to help build up Izuku's pitiful amount of self-esteem and confidence. But like he tells them, it's hard trying to overcome over a decade of negative experiences. After All Might ends up spilling the beans on how he and Izuku met to U.A.'s staff, they agree that Izuku needs therapy, and Hound Dog takes charge.

** Chapter 42: [[spoiler:When All for One tries to steal One for All, Izuku, the Vestiges and the Ennead turn the tables and steal eleven Quirks (including Search and Overhaul) that immediately get added to One for All, while destroying another twenty-three.]]

** When Izuku researchs the stuff Destro did during his heyday, Isamu tells him that everything was heavily censored and that he's better off not knowing how low Destro fell.

** Tenya name drops the trope when Stain states his approval of him as a hero.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Bakugo shoots several at the HPSC official that offers him a deal to be a hero again:

** After Bakugo summarizes how people blindly praising him non-stop and covering up all his misdeeds led to him being expelled from UA and labeled a villain, why should he accept a deal to cover his past misdeeds from somebody praising him blindly. This causes the official to ''threaten'' Bakugo into taking the deal.

* BringIt: After Bakugo rejects the HPSC's deal, for the sake of Ketsubutsu's rehabilitation program, the HPSC official warns him that very few people from that program goes on become Pro Heroes, none of them even managed to break into the top 100, and all of them were lower ranked than Bakugo. Bakugo simply welcomes the challenge.
* HistoryRepeats: Defied. Bakugo is visited by an HPSC official who praises him for his Quirk and potential to be a hero, and promises him a deal in order to be a hero again, his criminal record scrubbed clean, and Izuku being forced to sign an NDA in order to keep quiet about him under threat of never becoming a Pro Hero. Bakugo realizes that this is the story of his life: people praising him for his Quirk and claiming he's destined for greatness, while downplaying or ignoring all his unheroic deeds because they were aimed at unimportant people, which ended with him hated by All Might, expelled from UA and labeled a villain, and the people who enabled him behind bars. This prompts Bakugo to reject the deal and stick to Ketsubutsu's rehabilitation program.

* TheOneThingIDontHateAboutYou: Momo admits she can respect Yoroi Musha's honestly in admitting he was only a hero for fame and money, but that's the only thing she respects.

* DoWrongRight: When the Meta Liberation Army finds out [[spoiler:Hisashi Midoriya]] is doing the investigation into their money, they send assassins after them. The target not only avoids them all, and even captures one of the assassins single-handedly, but also complains about how shoddy the work on one of their car bombs was.

* DramaticIrony: When Bakugo reflects over his relationship with Izuku and how he mistakenly believed that Izuku was looking down on him when Izuku offered him help, he then realizes that Izuku's lack of reaction to Bakugo being expelled and arrested was the first time Izuku genuinely looked down on him.

** Mei's father is one to [[Film/BackToTheFuture Doctor Emmett Brown]], even giving an exclamation of "Great Scott" at one point.

* FastBallSpecial:
