* {{Shapeshifting}}: All Pocketers are capable of shapeshifting, though a select few are too inept to know how to (such as Zull and Gort), and younger ones are still learning it, of course.

** Due to the author not being too keen on Kate being a blonde with blue eyes (pretty much looking like a younger Toys/Barbie), Kate in this series is said to have dark brown, almost black hair with brown eyes. She has also been confirmed to be Japanese-American in this series.

* DarkerAndEdgier: Nihonverse is known to be a lot more mature than the show it is based on. The topic of death is often brought up, especially when Ava or Eva talks about what happened to their parents, and the Friendship Ceremony (Binding Hearts Ceremony, as it's called here) has quite a dark truth behind it.

** Happens to Ava and Eva’s immediate family. First, their father drowns during a boating trip to Midoriki Key when they were kittens, then their mother gradually falls ill with a miasmic illness and eventually becomes bedridden, and finally Eva gets “snatched” by a vengeful spirit.

* AnimalReligion: Sylvanism. Its kami are depicted as four-legged spirit creatures.

* AdaptationNameChange:

** The Friendship Ceremony has been changed and renamed to the Shinnui Ceremony, a ''VideoGame/FatalFrame''-inspired ritual that is still similar to its canon counterpart, but with all attendees having to wear masks (to prevent the Chosen One from having any further “ties” to Onmyou) and staying silent for the Ceremony Master. There is a different song associated with the Shinnui Ceremony, known as the Shinnui no Uta, which is sung by the Shousha (masked kagura musicians [[ShoutOut similar to the Kanade from]] ''VideoGame/FatalFrameIV'').

** Pocketville Castle is known as Nekoyuri Palace.

** Most notably, "porai" the most vulgar swear in Onmyougo, and "uburi", the equivalent to "piss" (the verb).

* SameSexTriplets: Queen Ava and King Richard's daughters, princesses Chouko, Mioko, and Sakiko.

* HorseOfADifferentColor: The Antlered Guild, which is a group of hoofed animals appointed by the royal family who are in charge of taking smaller Pocketers around the city on their backs as a form of public transportation, are made up of deer, elk, caribou, antelopes, etc. Only one horse member is included, who is a Palomino pony by the name of Lilac, but even she is too small to carry anyone on her back and is simply the "omega" of the group.
* HumansAreCthulhu: In this AU, many Pocketers are downright afraid of ever encountering a human, even if it's just Kate. Gijinka are another story (since they're used to seeing anthropomorphic animals more), but a select few are suspicious of gijinka ''Otherworlders''.

* FantasyCounterpartReligion: Sylvanism is similar to both {{UsefulNotes/Shinto}} and Britsune Garden's Kami-Shinjin (which the latter is also heavily based on Shinto). Both revolve around worshipping ''kami'', which are nature spirits, and animism. Think of Sylvanism and Kami-Shinjin as the real-world Greek and Roman pantheons as they're very similar to each other.

* OriginalCharacter: More than half the characters are created by the author.

** Most notably, "porai" the most vulgar swear in Pocketer-speak, and "uburi", the equivalent to "piss" (the verb).

* GRatedDrug: Catnip (see HighOnCatnip), which is said to be banned in certain prefectures of Onmyou and in Nekoyuri Palace. In some cases that plant has caused Onmyoujin to hallucinate when consumed.

* {{Wutai}}: Taken UpToEleven, as the Pocket Kingdom in its entirety has transformed into a feudal Japanese fantasy land with some Chinese and Korean inspiration in its western region. Not to mention all of its inhabitants are {{Youkai}} and other mythological creatures.

* ShrinesAndTemples: Since this is a Japanese-themed AU, there are several shrines across the Pocket Kingdom dedicated to original kami.

* {{Youkai}}: Just like much of Corgipon's works, this series features yōkai as characters. From {{Kitsune}} to BakenekoAndNekomata.
** The Onymoujin might as well be yōkai themselves.

Nihonverse Pocketville (also known as ''Onmyou'' 『陰陽』 or ''The Pocketville Onmyou Chronicles'') is a HighFantasy DarkFic web series created by {{Creator/Corgipon}} and is loosely based on the show ''WesternAnimation/PuppyInMyPocketAdventuresInPocketville''. Like its namesake, it is an AlternateUniverse where the setting has been transformed into a traditional Japanese-themed land.

* BadassAdorable: Every single Pocketer is ridiculously adorable, even the Royal Guards who are not afraid to put up a fight with any rogue.
