* Zull and Gort. After Eva reformed, they eventually had enough of their constant quarrels and became good friends. They remain troublemakers, of course. Since they often share some feelings towards each other and that they've gotten infatuated by two female dogs, this makes them supposedly bisexual.
* Also Daichi. He's married to Eva yet before his relationship with her started, he had a friend named Hifumi whom he would always get into mischief with. There's evidence that they may be more than just friends, but it didn't really blossom as [[spoiler:Hifumi was crushed by a tree before that would happen]].

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Unlike many alternate universes of this show, Nihonverse uses the author's personal art style for its character designs. Compared to the canon style, which include the Pocketville denizens having very humanoid characteristics such as hand-like paws (with thumbs) and flat teeth, Nihonverse characters are more animalistic with more realistic sharp teeth and animal paws. Only humanoid characteristic Nihonverse characters have that the canon ones don't is heads of hair, which are known as manes.

''Fanfic/PocketvilleTwilight'', a crossover web novel between this series and the ''[[Literature/BritsuneGardenSeries Britsune Garden]]'' series that is the first known novel of this series, started in August 2019.

The series takes place in an altered, feudal-esque Pocket Kingdom, where shapeshifters resembling real-world animals partake in discovering the secrets of their land and becoming skilled in their craft.

!!List of arcs

[[header:Standalone]]
* Fanfic/PocketvilleTwilight

!!This series provides examples of:

* AdaptationExpansion: This is expected for a series quite like this. Extra, fanmade lore created by the author is added to Nihonverse.
* AlternateUniverse: Unlike many other alternate universes of the show, Nihonverse is perhaps one of the most unique. Both the characters and setting have been altered to the author's preference and to make it more appealing to older audiences.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Zull and Gort. After Eva reformed, they eventually had enough of their constant quarrels and became good friends. They remain troublemakers, of course. Since they often share some feelings towards each other and that they've gotten infatuated by two female dogs, this makes them supposedly bisexual.
* AnachronicOrder: Twilight is released first, but the future arcs, which will take place before Twilight, will get released once the novel is finished.
* AnthropomorphicZigZag: Since the characters are shapeshifters, they can take on an anthropomorphic form at will.
* AwesomeMcCoolName: Nearly all the characters (with the exception of characters who appeared in the show) have Japanese names and even surnames.
** Balloon's actual name is revealed to be [[spoiler:Katsumi Himawari]]. "Balloon" is just the name that was given to her [[spoiler:when she was taken by Kizuna]].
** Amaterasu means "shining heaven" in Japanese, and she is named after a major {{UsefulNotes/Shinto}} goddess. However, InUniverse, her name means "star of the dawn".
* AxeCrazy:
** Several {{Youkai}} characters such as Sakuya and Hairo.
** [[spoiler:Kizuna. She's a mad cat mage who probably knows about Kate and Malorie's dimensions more than anybody else]].
* BilingualBonus: This is expected for a Japanese-themed series like this. Many of the characters' names mean something in Japanese and sometimes terms in said language are used.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: There are a good amount of words that are made up using Japanese syllables in order to make the Pocket Kingdom feel more like a unique culture. However, sometimes actual Japanese words are used too.
** "Otherworlder" refers to an outsider that comes from a separate dimension, while "Scavenger" specifically refers to a devious one. However, the words for humans and anthros are, respectively, "ningen" and "gijinka" (see BilingualBonus).
* DarkerAndEdgier: Nihonverse has fanfictions that are five times darker than the show they’re based on.
* DemonicPossession: Unless one is pure of heart or a very skilled and powerful mage, someone can get possessed if they are in the presence of an evil {{Youkai}}. Eva is a major example, as she got possessed by an [[spoiler:Onryō]] prior to what would nearly match the events of the show. Many reasons for getting possessed could be from the result of a DealWithTheDevil or by revenge.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture:
** The Pocket Kingdom is mostly a counterpart to Japan, though some references to Chinese and Korean cultures are also included.
** Ontavia is similar to European countries such as France.
* FantasyCounterpartReligion: Sylvanism is similar to both {{UsefulNotes/Shinto}} and Britsune Garden's Kamitism (which the latter is also heavily based on Shinto). Both revolve around worshipping ''kami'', which are nature spirits, and animism. Think of Sylvanism and Kamitism as the real-world Greek and Roman pantheons as they're very similar to each other.
* HumansAreCthulhu: In this AU, many Pocketers are downright afraid of ever encountering a human, even if it's just Kate. Gijinka are another story (since they're used to seeing anthropomorphic animals more), but a select few are suspicious of gijinka ''Otherworlders''.
* MeaningfulName: This is apparently a trend in this series.
** [[spoiler:Balloon's surname Himawari means "sunflower" in Japanese, and her favourite flower happens to be the sunflower]].
* PardonMyKlingon:
** Most notably, "porai" the most vulgar swear in Pocketer-speak, and "uburi", the equivalent to "piss" (the verb).
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: The Nekoyuri family are always willing to do some good in their kingdom. Ava even fought off some yōkai once.
* {{Shapeshifting}}: All Pocketers are capable of shapeshifting, though a select few are too inept to know how to (such as Zull and Gort), and younger ones are still learning it, of course.
* ShoutOut:
** The author has been inspired by many fantasy series with animals as the main characters while creating this AU, such as ''Literature/WarriorCats'', ''Literature/GuardiansOfGaHoole'', and ''Literature/FoxCraft''.
** This series is also inspired by the ''VideoGame/FatalFrame'' series, as it has seriously dark and sometimes unsettling themes and is also inspired by old Japanese culture, albeit being less grusome.
* {{Youkai}}: Just like much of Corgipon's works, this series features yōkai as characters. From {{Kitsune}} to BakenekoAndNekomata.
** The Pocketers might as well be yōkai themselves.
