Meanwhile, Luz is a kindhearted individual who looks up to one of the very "wild witches" her father wants to stamp out, and is occasionally embarrassed by some of his more violent actions. Doesn't stop her from adoring her dad and wanting to live up to his legacy, though.

* RealAfterAll: The Good Witch Azura, being a legendary figure on the Boiling Isles who had already faded into mythical status by the time [[LongLived Belos himself was a child]]. Zul confirms that Azura did exist in Chapter 11, and Luz briefly theorizes the various implications of this, including whether or not she might have left to Earth after completing all her famous exploits. [[spoiler:Chapter 12 heavily implies that Luz's human bloodline could somehow be connected to her.]]

* SecretKeeper: Luz being the daughter of Emperor Belos is a closely-held secret initially only known amongst the Emperor's Coven and a small number of the coven heads. At least, it's ''supposed'' to be.

** [[spoiler: Amity's parents find out in Chapter 15, after forcibly taking her medallion when Luz visits their house.]] Luz has to threaten them with her father's wrath to make sure they keep quiet about it. After she's sure they've left, she curses her inability at [[LampshadeHanging actually keeping her status a secret]].

** When she, Willow, Gus and Amity tries doing the Moonlight Conjuring, they accidentally animate the entire castle.

* SarcasticConfession: When Eda arrives late to save King and discovers that he had not only somehow freed himself, but that his captor is now completely terrified of him, she naturally acts for context. King jokingly replies that he just couldn't handle the King of Demons. While this is exactly what happened ([[spoiler:King activated a SuperMode related to his royal line to scare Tibbles into submission]]), Eda takes one look at her cute canine-like companion and dismisses the admission as a joke.

** Though Belos does promise to cure Eda, the agreement is that he'll do so based on Luz's magical progress. As such, the fic's version of curse-related plotlines such as [[Recap/TheOwlHouseS1E4TheIntruder "The Intruder"]] or the B-story of "Hooty's Moving Hassle" are left unchanged.

** Luz and Amity still have a rocky start to their friendship, but unlike in the show, where Amity's dislike of Luz was fueled by seeing her as actively trying to complicate her life, here Amity's initial annoyance is fueled by a belief that Luz is coasting by on {{nepotism}}. And while in the show, they get on good terms after getting stuck in the library overnight, here they do so after [[spoiler:escaping the false reality in Chapter 12]].

** Since Luz lives at the castle with her parents instead of at the Owl House with Eda, the [[Recap/TheOwlHouseS1E6HootysMovingHassle moonlight conjuring]] is done there instead, and since both Amity and Willow were invited, the two start repairing their relationship earlier than they did in canon.

* HybridPower: Being half-witch gives Luz a level of magical power that not only matches, but surpasses her father. The downside is that she can barely control it, which makes her a danger to both friends and foes alike.

* TemptingFate: Luz spent much of "Luz's Moving Hassle: Part 1" promising everyone that "no weird of dangerous hijinks will ensue" from that night's moonlight conjuring. Cue Part 2, where an enraged Luz accidentally causes the castle to grow legs and go on a rampage towards Bonesborough, which ''also'' causes several beasts that were being kept in the dungeons to go on a rampage within the castle itself.

It isn't her fault, though: she has no idea why weird things keep happening around her, like snakes spontaneously appearing out of nowhere or people she doesn't suddenly going aflame. Thankfully, her mother Camila does, and she's finally willing to tell her daughter the truth. It turns out that Luz is really [[HalfHumanHybrid half-witch]], and her father is Empreor Belos, the powerful tryant king of a magical land called the Boiling Isles. And with Luz's recent magical outburst getting her expelled from school, the two of them might as well take the opportunity to leave their lives on Earth behind and move into her father's castle.

* UnskilledButStrong: What Luz lacks in control of her magic, she makes up for it in raw, uncontrollable power. Her attempts at doing spells are spontaneous and have a bigger kick to them than thought possible, [[PowerStrainBlackout which can cause Luz to feint from the exertion]]. Special mention goes to Eda's attempt to teach her a simple light spell, only for it to grow into a miniature sun and nearly destroy the Owl House.

** Luz meet Willow and Gus in the same manner as in canon, by pretending to be an abomination.

* AmbiguousSituation: The nature of the Titan and its demands regarding the "Day of Unity." Belos vaguely admits to Camila that whatever the Titan's goals are is something he feels would make his family despise him if they learn the details, and that they both know he has little option but to do it regardless of any qualms or skepticism because Belos being under a powerful life-draining curse that only the Titan can possibly cure.

* HybridPower: Being half-witch gives Luz a level of magical power that not only matches, but surpasses her father. The downside is that [[UnskilledButStrong she can barely control it]], causing her to fuel even the most mundane spells with dangerous amounts of energy. Case in point, the light spell that Luz uses regularly in canon simply forms a small, harmless mote of light. This Luz trying to perform a similar spell for the first time resulted in a slowly expanding miniature star that threatened to burn down the surrounding forest.
* InSpiteOfANail: Luz meet Willow and Gus in the same manner as in canon, by pretending to be an abomination.

* LotusEaterMachine: [[spoiler:Chapter 12 has Bonesborough itself transformed into one when one of Luz's spells goes haywire. Zul uses their magic to take control of it in hopes of Luz becoming an easy possession target once she succumbs fully to the false reality.]]

* ModernAUFic: The LotusEaterMachine Zul traps everyone in acts as this, converting everyone there into a mundane human-world version of themselves.

* OddFriendship: One of Belos's most famous accomplishments is his victory over a battle with the original King of Demons, [[spoiler:so it becomes ironic with the reveal that King, one of Luz's friends, is the original King's son and heir]].

Due to how she's acting (and considering who her dad is), they assume she's planning to murder them. When terrified Gus begs for mercy, Luz explains that she just wanted them to be quiet, as yelling government secrets in the middle of a marketplace is a bad idea.]]
