Also, his plan was based on the belief that his mother, Yui Ikari, the scientist that created the Evangelions, was wrong. The rational and cynic mind of Asuka simply couldn't believe that this plan had a chance to work, but made a leap of faith and decided to join Shinji and try to make his plan work.
