trope renamed per TRS

* BetterWithNonHumanCompany: With Pokemon, Zoe is confident and sweet and caring. But put a new person in front of her, and Zoe is immediately flustered, tripping over her own tongue and blushing and just an absolute mess. Law finds it both adorable and frustrating.

When the Legendaries of her world decided to interfere in another, Zofia Elm had no idea she had been chosen by Arceus to fix what went wrong there. Thrown into the tumultuous Grand Line alongside other champions and hundreds of Pokemon, she realizes exactly why.

When strange, fantastical creatures appeared overnight, Trafalgar Law knew that the entire game was changing. Recruiting a displaced, god-touched girl was meant to be the first step in a very real plan to finally enact his revenge…But things never go exactly as he wants.

!!This story contains examples of:
*ABoyAndHisX: Like the source material, anyone who befriends Pokemon becomes this trope. At the beginning, the biggest example is Zoe, a girl and her Cyndaquil.
*ApologisesALot: Zoe does this, along with Bepo. When she starts rambling, for example, she’ll often cut herself off with an apology for bothering the other person. Law is working to break her of this.
*BadassAdorable: Zoe herself is a version of this, being honestly adorkable and shy, but when she loses her temper…
**Her Pokemon follow this theme, being generally smaller and cuter species that are devastatingly fast or versatile, especially under the direction of a capable trainer.
*TheBeastMaster: All trainers are seen as this in the One Piece world.
*BerserkButton: Zoe has a very big one; abusing innocents, Pokemon or otherwise. Law witnessed this firsthand after meeting her in Port Shiroyal, when a Navy Captain boasted about killing an Arcanine and skinning it for it’s pelt right in front of said Pokemon’s devastated Growlithe pup. That was the first time the Heart Pirates witnessed Zoe’s true abilities, and she took out said captain with one punch.
*BewareTheNiceOnes: Zoe is a very sweet, adorkable, shy person that insists on helping others, even at a detriment to herself. But if you threaten someone, Zoe loses any worries about controlling her Arceus-given strength and will do everything in her power to take you down with extreme prejudice.
*BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Law and Zoe fit this dynamic, with the more withdrawn, calculating, haunted pirate surgeon and the nurturing, understanding, sweet Pokemon doctor.
*CombatMedic: Law fulfills this role on the crew initially, but Zoe has the potential to be just as dangerous on the battlefield even without her Pokemon.
*CoolPet: All Pokemon are this, with special attention given to the ones of the Heart Pirates.
*DanDere: Zoe is one of these, being very shy and awkward most of the time, but get her talking about Pokemon, and she’s very enthusiastic and adorkable, rambling on about types and species and anatomy without even taking a breath. While she often gets embarrassed about it and tries to stop, Law encourages her to speak up more and be more confident.
*EyeColorChange: Not only did gaining Arceus’ power cause Zoe’s eyes to go from brown to green, but using the other abilities she gained causes her irises to turn bright red.
*HugeGuyTinyGirl: Law is nearly 6’4’’, while Zoe is 5’2’’, making them this trope.
*NotGoodWithPeople: With Pokemon, Zoe is confident and sweet and caring. But put a new person in front of her, and Zoe is immediately flustered, tripping over her own tongue and blushing and just an absolute mess. Law finds it both adorable and frustrating.
*NotSoWeak: Zoe is the embodiment of this trope. While she places very little importance in her own comfort and safety, she is extremely protective of others and will fight for them without hesitation. This is shown very early on, when Captain Hatcher demanded she come with him to Marineford…and then revealed he had killed an Arcanine and was currently hurting her traumatized Growlithe pup. He ended up being punched so hard, he was flung right out of the fight.
*OppositesAttract: Law is a withdrawn, logical, confident surgeon while Zoe is a sweet, emotional, socially awkward doctor. This doesn’t stop either of them.
*PintSizedPowerhouse: Zoe is a very petite woman, barely over five feet tall, but with all the strength of a Pokemon, on top of a myriad of other abilities.
*RageBreakingPoint: Zoe hits this very early in the story, thanks to the Navy. As a doctor, especially one of Pokemon, she takes the well-being and safety of others as a top priority. When the Navy came to Port Shiroyal, they lured her out by abusing a Growlithe pup, demanding that she come with them for questioning. Worried as she was, Zoe would have gone…except that the Captain revealed he had killed the pup’s Arcanine mother and skinned her. And she snapped. By the end, the entire squadron was defeated, and a shell-shocked Zoe was taken in by the Heart Pirates to avoid bringing more trouble to the people she was helping.
*ShipperOnDeck: The entire Heart Pirates’ crew are huge Law/Zoe shippers. They just want their captain to be happy.
*ShrinkingViolet: Zoe is very much this, especially around people she doesn’t know, fumbling over her words and fidgeting and speaking softly. Having one of her Pokemon helps alleviate her shyness.
*ShyFingerTwiddling: Zoe does this a lot, fidgeting with her fingers when feeling nervous. Which is often.
*SituationalSociability: Most of the time, Zoe is an awkward, adorkable mess, but get her started on Pokemon, and she comes right out of her shell to talk your ear right off.
*TalkingAnimal: After being chosen by Arceus, Zoe sees all Pokemon as this, being able to understand them as one of the many abilities she now has.
