''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9119535/1/ Fallout: Rise of the Lone Wanderer]]'' is a fanfic written by coastierks.

For Marcus Lincoln, Vault 101 is an okay place to live, despite having to deal with Butch [=DeLoria=] and his crew, not to mention an overprotective Overseer, and the occasional radroach break. On the other hand, he has a good father and is romantically involved with the Overseer's daughter, Amata.

Then, Marcus' father disappears, and all hell breaks loose.

Forced to flee Vault 101 for his own safety, Marcus leaves one life for another. It is here, that the legend of the Lone Wanderer begins.

The story is followed by Fallout New Vegas: Rise of a Nation

!! This epic fanfic has the following tropes:

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: Marcus, after he destroyed the Enclave.
** ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Marcus, after using the orbital platform to blow up Tenpenny Tower. [[TheAtoner He's been hard at work getting back in the Brotherhood's good graces]]...and succeeds.
* AGodAmI: Both Obadiah Blackhall and Lord Ashur.
* ActionDad: Marcus Lincoln.
* ActionMom: Clover.
* BattleCouple: Marcus with Lucy West at first, then Clover, and later Sarah Lyons.
* BigBad:
** The Slavers, The Enclave and Colonel Austin for the first arc.
** Obadiah Blackhall for the Point Lookout arc.
** Lord Ashur for The Pitt arc.
* BlueBlood: Marcus' ancestors are the founders of the New California Republic.
* BoomHeadshot: Several characters buy the farm in this manner.
* BrokenPedestal: Marcus in the eyes of the Brotherhood of Steel after blowing up Tenpenny Tower.
** RebuiltPedestal: After he rescues Sarah and destroys Vault 87.
* ChekhovsGun:
** Clover taught Marcus how to fight with a Chinese sword. Later, he relies on that training whilst fighting in The Pitt.
** Marcus is healed by radiation. This little perk is what purges his body of the Punga's toxins when he is tossed into the radioactive sacred bog.
* FamousAncestor: Marcus is descended from the original Vault Dweller and the Chosen One.
* ForWantOfANail: Several examples:
** Both Sarah and Marcus wind up being abducted by the Zetans and undergoing the Operation Anchorage simulator.
** Anna Holt, who defects to the Enclave after the takeover of the Purifier, is Colonel Autumn's wife.
** Sandra, Ashur's wife, is not as good as she is in canon.
** Reilly's Rangers assist the Lone Wanderer in clearing out the Lincoln Memorial, allowing Hannibal and his crew to move in.
* TheExile: Marcus is cast out of the Brotherhood for destroying Tenpenny Tower and killing most of its inhabitants.
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: Reilly sure loves her cigars.
* HappilyAdopted: Marie, after Marcus scourges The Pitt.
* HealingFactor: Both Marcus and Sarah get this ability; Marcus from using the Experimental Rad-X whilst activating Project Purity and Sarah as a side effect from her exposure to FEV.
* HeroicSacrifice:
** Akira the pilot, who pilots his crippled fighter into the alien mothership's exhaust line.
** Toshiro Kago, who stays behind and dies a samurai's death, against a horde of Trogs.
* KilledOffForReal: A good chunk of named Wastelanders buy the farm.
* MadeOfIron: Marcus has been shot, stabbed and even tortured, and still keeps on going.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** After being booted out of the Brotherhood of Steel, Marcus hits rock bottom.
** Wally Mack, who sold Amata out to Talon Company, ends up committing suicide over the guilt.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: Sarah is cured of the FEV, but one of her eyes is now green.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** Sure, Eulogy. Give Marcus access to a computer. It's not like he can reprogram the turrets on you and the other Slavers.
** Sure, Mr. Tenpenny. Target Marcus' girlfriend and let her get killed in the crossfire because he was disrupting the status quo. You ''did'' remember that the cause of your ire has access to orbital nukes, right? It's not like he could target Tenpenny Tower with them, right?
* IChooseToStay: After the Temple of the Union get settled in at the Lincoln Memorial, Clover decides to remain with the anti-slavery faction.
* MoralityPet: Amata to Marcus.
* OhCrap: Eulogy Jones when the automated turrets draw a bead on him: "[[PrecisionFStrike Fuck me]]."
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Basically, whoever Marcus decides to team up with, be it the Brotherhood, Reilly's Rangers or even the survivors of Point Lookout.
* ThatManIsDead: Elder Lyons believe that the man that Marcus was (who had blown up Tenpenny Tower) had died whilst in Point Lookout, and the man who saved the Capital Wasteland has returned.
* WhereAreTheyNow: The fates of those in the Epilogue are shown:
** '''Brotherhood of Steel:''' The Brotherhood became the military arm of the Capital Union, even allowing ghouls and Super Mutants to join their ranks...until Arthur Maxson took over as Elder and reversed that decree.
** '''Vault 101 and Megaton:''' Both communities merged into a new city called [=MegaVault=] City following the Battle of the Mall. Lucas Simms would serve as its first Mayor, succeded by Herman Gomez.
** '''The Vault 101 and Rivet City Militias:''' Now combined as the Capital Militia, they were tasked with containing all internal threats to the Union.
** '''Rivet City:''' The settlement was rebuilt and Harkness was granted a position on the city council. Its status as a haven for escaped synths would put it into conflict with the Institute.
** '''Reilly's Rangers:''' Still a mercenary outfit, the Rangers also serves as the Union's special forces unit, its numbers increasing over the years. Following the deaths of the original four members, Charon would continue to lead the organization.
** '''Underworld:''' The surviving Super Mutants would make their home inside the Museum of History, withFawkes acting as the Mutants' representative on the Union Council.
** '''Temple of the Union:''' Following the death of Hannibal Hamlin, Clover takes over as the leader of the Temple. As slavery is now outlawed in the Capital Union, the Temple runs a new underground railroad to help slaves escape from their masters.
** '''Jericho and Butch:''' Per to their agreement, the Brotherhood enters into a partnership with Jericho and Butch, running a protection racket for the clean water...all the while providing such vices like selling booze, gambling and prostitution.
** '''The Regulators:''' With Sonora Cruz among the dead during the Unity War, the Regulators bounced back and in time, became the law enforcement arm of the Capital Union, despite objections regarding the banning of summary executions.
** '''Herbert Dashwood and Argyle:''' Following their participation at the Battle of the Mall, Dashwood and Argyle were once again, heroes. After retiring, Argyle wrote his memoirs detailing his years in The Pitt, earning himself a spin-off series on Galaxy News Radio.
** '''Three Dog and Galaxy News Radio:''' [=GNR=] is rebuilt and improved on. As for the man himself, Three Dog would work until he was found dead at his switchboard, doing what he loves to the last breath in his old age.
** '''Mothership Zeta:''' While Elliot Tercorian, Sally and Mary remained onboard the mothership to monitor for any other hostile extraterrestrial threats, Colonel Hardigan and his team returned to Mars to rebuild the colony. Those abducted also choose life on Mars, which is terraformed and made suitable for human life.
** '''The [=AntAngonizer=] and The Mechanist:''' Following the war, both The [=AntAngonizer=] and The Mechanist made peace with one another. The [=AntAngonizer=] hung up the costume and lived out her life as Tanya Christoff, while the Mechanist and his robots ventured north, never to be seen again.
** '''Danse and Ingram:''' Despite losing both her legs, Ingram remained on as a Brotherhood Scribe, her power armor retrofitted with a pair of robotic legs for better mobility. Knight Danse was promoted to Paladin, and would serve with the Brotherhood...until he was sent north to the Commonwealth.
