* DarkerAndEdgier: The original saga didn't focus much on the characters or their transformations. This starkly contrasts the revamp, which sheds more light on both aspects and therefore makes it much more jarring than the original story.
* PainfulTransformation: Judging by the screams and pain mentioned throughout the stories, one could imagine the transformations are much less than pleasant.
